In a world of identikit chain hotels, it’s so lovely to stay somewhere so unique and charming. The staff are fab, the decor homely and the beds firm. The rooms are small, but that’s reflected in the price and there’s a lovely lounge to relax in too.

I absolutely loved the staff at this super cute hotel! It is a 4-minute walk from St David's train station, which was convenient as I was travelling by train. The breakfast/lounge area is cute and cosy and they have the coolest thing - a book exchange where you can read a book or trade yours for ones they have there. The hotel keeper was just lovely - so nice and helpful. I got in pretty late (after 10 PM) but they made sure I knew exactly how to get into my room. It was a bit cold in the room, but they had two electric heaters in addition to the gas heater. I didn't have plans on checkout day until 1 PM, and they allowed me to use the lounge until I was ready to head out. Would definitely stay here again!
The only downside was the thin walls - you can easily hear hallway noise, and conversations carry between rooms. While this wasn't a major issue during my stay since the hotel was relatively quiet, light sleepers or those needing more privacy might want to keep this in mind

Location - very close to the station. I took a taxi because of the icy conditions, but it is effectively a 10 minute walk. I would advise thst the walk from the station is up a fairly steep road. Night manager very polite, offered to carry my bag up the stairs, knowledgeable about hotel area when I asked about location of restaurants. Room clean, bathroom clean (good shower), heating on (very cold night). I appreciated the small jar of real coffee and cafetiere. Small hotel that has retained original features of the original house. I didn't have breakfast there so can't comment.
Although the bed was comfortable enough, I could feel the springs. An upgrade to a newer mattress would have made my stay perfect. Having said that, I slept well. A loud bell woke me around 6 am - I was confused, thinking it was a fire alarm. If it was a door bell, perhaps its volume could be adjusted.

The hotel is quirky in a nice way - it is a slightly rambling conversion of a town house, with nice touches of earlier times (valve radios and dial telephones). The staff were wonderful from the outset - making sure I had parked correctly (in their own parking at the back). I came down for breakfast rather late (45 mins late!), but the host offered to cook me a bacon sandwich and also gave me a nice cup of coffee. This was unexpected and very welcome - thank you! Also, the room and its shower room were perfectly clean, if compact!

A quirky individual hotel. Warm, friendly owners who were welcoming and provided a relaxed atmosphere. We had a room for three female friends. The third bed was in a small room alongside the twin bedded room and we all shared an en-suite bathroom. Absolutely ideal. The breakfast was fabulous with both a full cooked breakfast and/ or fruit salad, yoghurt, croissants, toast etc. Excellent filter coffee. Hotel located approx 15 min walk from town centre,20 mins from the quay. 5 min walk from Exeter St David train station.
There wasn’t anything we disliked about the property.

The room was spacious and had a nice bathroom. Triple room set up was very good. It felt quite homely. Water in the room and tea and coffee facilities were good. Nice bathroom products. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really yummy with lots of vegetarian choices. Close to the city centre and university. They were accommodating and kept our suitcase while we visited the university.
Beds not hugely comfortable but not terrible. We stayed in a room with a glass door, which needed a better covering as you could still see in. New doorstop needed for the bathroom.

We arrived early but were greeted with a smile and supportive staff. The room was clean and quite small but functional with en-suit bathroom. The breakfast itself was great quality produce and a good selection. Due to the nice weather, a member of staff set up a table in the courtyard so that we could have breakfast.
There were not enough tables for breakfast so had to wait. Fortunately we were not time critical otherwise we would have had to leave without eating. Would have expected the Breakfast time period to be longer than 1 1/2 hours because of this. Car park is very limiting space wise.

The room was not big, but big enough for three, with TV and free wifi. The beds were comfortable, the toilet small but complete, with handsoap, showergel, bodylotion, hairdrier. In the room there were mugs, kettle, a good assortment of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, creamer: this thing made the room appear even cosier. Every thing was clean. We added breakfast to our staying, and we coudn't have done a better choice: eggs, sausages, bacon, hash brown, beans, mushrooms, cooked at the moment; cereals, yogurt, fresh toasts, fruit, etc. Very kind staff, always smiling, always patient.

Friendly upbeat receptionist; walkable to the university, train station and city centre; generous breakfast with good coffee and helpful breakfast staff; comfortable room and bathroom with a shower that worked; nice soap and body lotion.
I was unlucky in that I couldn't find a parking spot (despite the hotel's efficient voucher system). However, parking is a problem in most British cities, so not specific to the hotel or Exeter. I managed to find a paying spot within walking distance (then spotted spaces had become available near the hotel!). No full-length mirror in the room which meant having to stand on the bed to check outfit.

The location was perfect for us, the room was comfortable and I loved the little stack of old style suitcases, the top one was actually a record player. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful. There is a cute courtyard in the centre and other quirky decorations here and there. We didn't have breakfast but wished we had booked it as it looked good. We could smell bacon when we woke up!
We would happily use this place again. Blackout curtains would have helped me, as our room was not completely dark over night. The Telstar carpark is also a tight fit, but it was fine for our small car.
