Staff were fantastic, especially Kira who took time to chat with customers and made everyone feel welcome. Also, that they allowed me to get a shower after check-out and hang out in the lobby. Much appreciated. The building and its interior are beautiful.

The location is very good for exploring the city.
The lady at the reception was cold and barely to understand.

Super helpful and friendly staff. They take security very seriously. There is someone there 24 hours and only guests allowed in. Bathroom was super clean. If I had known how amazing the kitchen would be I would have planned better to cook! The mansion itself is a time capsule of elegance.

Friendly front desk upon arrival, quiet at night. location was close to the theater we were going to so we could walk, felt safe walking.
Night staff was not friendly. Seemed very put out to have to be there, especially compared to the wonderful older lady that was working upon our arrival.

Great location downtown, old Victorian mansion with quirky and charming decor in the shared spaces. My private room and bathroom was comfortable with the hot water and AC all working well. Since the room was on the ground floor I heard someone playing on the piano in the living room one evening before quiet hour, which was lovely.
Some of the furniture, towels and paint showed signs of wear and tear but it is to be expected when staying at a hostel in an old building. Bad luck when a mosquito bit me several times while I slept the first night, but luckily did not show up again the remainder of my stay.

Really liked the staff & all of their kind help & how clean the beautiful mansion is. It was great to meet & talk with people at breakfast from France, China, the U.S. & The U.K. I am sad that they can no longer have hammocks and nice seating on front porch, due to people who are not guests, I was told, come and hang out. This is completely understandable. I wonder if the gate from the sidewalk could be locked and room key would open & hammocks could be tried again & maybe a small amount of seating? The large kitchen is very well equipped and there's lots of space in the dining room, library & living room to sit. I enjoyed the photo albums. We were in a very large room on the 3rd floor, with 2 queen beds & a loveseat & big coffee table. It was beautifully decorated, like the other rooms I've stayed in & like the rest of the big house. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed meeting Alex, Kailyn and 2 other staff, I can't recall their names. The coffee was great!

Beautiful property, nice area downtown, convenient parking. Friendly staff.
Minimal amenities. The showers had 2-in-1 hair/body wash, and no floor mats/towels (for dry feet when done) when I went to use them. When I requested parking in the gated area to the person checking me, they must have been new, but they said they weren't sure if there was room and said, "I'm going to say no..." I told them I had just driven up to the gate and saw there were spaces. I had to be insistent for something relatively simple (they could have looked out the kitchen window to see there were plenty of parking spaces for me to park!). Some staff members were welcoming and friendly, but a couple others were rather cold and unhelpful.

beautiful and historic mansion. clean bathrooms, good kitchen amenities, friendly and professional team members. I've stayed here previously and will again in the future.
the mattress protectors made my back sweaty at night. no longer able to smoke on the back porch. no alcohol on the property. of course disorderly behavior should not be tolerated but I'm sad I didn't connect with other guests and I feel loosening these rules would facilitate connections. sharing a bottle of wine in their gorgeous back garden before heading to the game room in the basement with new friends would be heavenly.

The beautiful photos of HI Sacramento Hostel drew me to book a private room (I traveled with my 12 y.o. daughter), and this historic mansion did not disappoint! It is stunning, and I only wish that we stayed longer than one night. Front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. We had a car and appreciated the gated parking lot ($8/night). Our room was cozy, women's restrooms/showers were adjacent to our room, and everything was very clean. With such a grand and historic space, it was lovely to feel we were staying in a part of history. The complimentary continental breakfast (oatmeal, fruit, mini bagels, tea, coffee, etc.) was just right. We would certainly stay here again if in the Sacramento area.
I wish we had stayed longer. We didn't have enough time to fully explore the game room and parlor and fully appreciate the grandeur of this 1885 Victorian mansion.

Easily the best hostel I've stayed at overall, ever. It's in the most incredible building and all the systems are super well thought out. Amazing kitchen with high quality cooking items from chopping board to dishes. It was a really enjoyable place to stay and overall the staff were super. Only a few tiny things stopped me from giving a 10.
The location was great if you have a car but might be challenging if you dont. We paid for a room with our own bathroom but a staff member made a comment to is that made it seem like we had gotten away with an upgrade, which was a bit odd. Also our shower head holder was broken so you had to hold the sprayer in one hand the whole way through the shower.
