This property, about 20km east of Calitazdorp, combines a roadside 'padstal' local farm-products/wine store and restaurant with separate accomodations that are set back some 300 meters from the main road in a tree-shaded glen, and so are quiet and tranquil. I had Room 1 on the northwest corner of the single-story accomodations building, a late 18th Century converted barn with an elevated wrap-around veranda. It was very large, spacious, and well-appointed. Elmarie is a gracious hostess with an accomodating staff. The restaurant serves a variety of home-cooked offerings for breakfast and lunch, including various roosterkoek (Afrikaner-style griddle cakes - delicious!) combos and 'pap en wors' (mielie meal and coriander-spiced farm sausage), both favorites of mine. There is outdoor seating in the rear interiror garden of the restaurant, where some chickens range free. A big plus for me was the Andrieskraal Eco-Reserve right across the main road - a largely untouched mega-garden of hiking/cycling trails through various cacti, succulents and fynbos, frequented by kudu, various small animals and birds, and the occasional leopard, I'm told.

Bella de Karoo is a much better choice, in my opinion, than anything available in Calitzdorp itself. The only minor negative is that the self-catering facilities are communal. Utensils, dishware, etc is localed in the cabinets adjacent to the stove and sink facilities on the east side of the accomodations building. Brighter interior lights in my room would have been a welcome improvement.

The rooms were very classy and clean and they provided us with heaters since it was very cold at night .The owners made sure we were oky and they checked on us if we were still fine after the long journey the first day we get there .we did our braai there and they provided us with the wood and charcoal .All I can say is we heard an awesome stay there not forgetting the chicken and mayo roasterkoe I don't know if I spelt right very nice and filling

The host was communicative and helpful, she organised food to be available for dinner on my arrival. I liked the room and the bed was comfortable, plus the location is pretty remote but easy to access. The dip pool was available to use on my last night, which was a nice option. Having a fan in the room was also useful, as it got pretty hot!

The WiFi was patchy, which isn't what I expected or ideal when travelling solo. You could get better WiFi at the farm shop, which was a 5-minute walk up the road.

Being offered a meal upon arrival. The Babotie was DELISH!!!! Plus a microwave was supplied to heat the food to the right temperature.Easy access from the main road. Loads of mozzies - but they supplied Tabard which was most appreciated. A fan was provided but would be mindful if very very very hot - I don't think it will be too pleasant.

I stayed in the back corner room and wifi was non-existent which was rather frustrating. Water was switched off and I wanted to shower so had to find someone to switch it back on. Would have been useful to know this ahead of time. This was 30mins before having to check out so timing not great at all.

Bella de Karoo is beautiful, relaxed, and the perfect amount of quirky. We had a quick one night stop over and Elmarie went out of her way to organise supper for us. ( a delicious lasagna and salad from the farm stall) Everything was clean and exactly as advertised. The farm is beautiful and we enjoyed a little walk with our dog. The children had fun in the pool which was a welcome relief in the klein karoo heat.

Elmarie was very friendly and welcomed us to our accommodation, which were very spacious rooms with quality beds and linens. We ordered lasagne and bobotie with salad, very generous portions! The cement dam was very welcome to cool down in after the long drive. The farm is pet friendly, and to us, it was the bonus and highlight.

Great location, super friendly staff, crisp and clean room, value for money, hence the rooms are not "sound-proof" . We understand the concept of the historic overview, hence we experienced a lack of privacy, and we couldn't bare whispering all the time to keep our voices down, nor tip-toed all evening in our own room. We could literally hear the neighbors using their bathroom facilities.

I loved the fact that the rooms are in a converted 200 year old barn. Elmarie was a wonderful host. The rooms and decor transported us back in time. So charming and old-world. We ordered dinner and it was delivered to our room. The meal was excellent, and the environment was peaceful and lovely.

Sound proofing could be improved Consider planting grass on the open area Part of the facilities advertised online included a Sebenza shop which no longer exists so this is misleading. I was looking forward to buying a souvenir from the shop

The location is ideal if you want to get away from everyday life. You'll find the place as it is mentioned in the pictures and the reviews. If happy with no TV but wifi available. Very peaceful and dead quiet at night, with no traffic noise.
