We had our golden retriever dog with us and she was allowed in the bar with us for breakfast and dinner - all of the staff made us feel welcome. The food for dinner was delicious! Breaky the first day was continental and a standard selection was available, the second morning was a weekend so they offered a cooked breakfast and it was divine! Location was great, we loved it and hope to come back.

I think they must have a cd stuck in their audio system, for dinner and both breakfasts we heard James blunt - we thought it was funny, but I could envision some people not finding it humorous.

Hotel was excellent value and an ideal central location for 8 golfers playing the many wonderful courses in the area. Building was characterful and handsome. Although rather faded, rooms were comfortable and good value for money. Evening dinner in hotel on evening when we arrived was a bit mixed, but hotel easy walking distance of some really excellent restaurants in Tain. Staff very friendly and cost represented excellent value both compared to luxury hotels in area and more standardised offers.

Hotel is an old building and that shows in both charm and the constant need for repair.

Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice and lovely local produce used and staff were so lovely and friendly and informative about the local area and other locations on our journey for the NC 500. Would highly recommend dinner in the nearby “Platform 1864” bistro , lovely…

A fridge in the room would have been nice but it’s an older property (castle to be exact) and a little dated but still a lovely spot and still charming with excellent parking facilities and close to everything we needed,

Bedroom was well appointed and contained everything required. Clean and comfortable. Huge selection on the breakfast buffet and hot food cooked fresh to order with good quality breakfast items. Great selection on the menu for dinner, fabulous food. Staff were welcoming and friendly with special thanks to the lovely girl who organised our taxi to the distillery.

The bar closed at 10pm. General public areas were a bit dusty/cobwebby.

We’d pre-booked a breakfast at the Mansfield but was told due to kitchen problems we could either have a continental breakfast at the Mansfield or go to a sister hotel for a cooked breakfast,we chose the continental which was very satisfying.

We couldn’t have our evening meal at the Mansfield either,which we hadn’t pre-booked,the sister hotel was recommended again,would have been nice to have the evening meal at the Mansfield though,we’d even checked out the menu before we left home & decided what we’d order.

A great location, the receptionist Mhairi (Celtic for Mary) was frankly INCREDIBLE, breakfast was enjoyable. I was on a cycling holiday with two bikes and the hotel manager allowed me to charge and store them in the hotel, which was appreciated. If I were in charge Mhairi would be in management to sharpen up some basics, she is that good

Some things were not as they should be, check list things that could have been frustration but Mhairi responded so speedily and efficiently that any frustrations melted away

Dinner was exceptionally good as was continental breakfast. Compliments to the chef

Sheets too small for King bed, bed too soft No hot towel rail, did not work. Slippery shower in bath and nothing to hold onto. Very small shower head. Gardens badly need attention as does all walking surfaces. Grass needs cut Beautiful historical building needs lots of attention

Room was big, clean & very warm. Staff were friendly & helpful. Food was very good we had 2 breakfasts which were tasty & lots of options. We also had an evening meal which was excellent & because of the time of year we got 50% of all food & drinks.

Would say the hotel overall is looking a bit tired & possibly in need of some redecoration, same with the grounds. Lights on the driveway would be good at this time of year.

Impressive historic building with magnificent hall and public rooms. Convenient location on edge of Tain - easy walking distance to a variety of restaurants. Ideally placed to drive to so many wonderful surrounding golf courses. Comfortable, clean rooms. Very friendly staff. Decor dated, but reflected in price

The building is beautiful as you come up the drive and is stunning when you step through the door , the hotel’s history was interesting . The lady at reception was very friendly , polite and helpful . The room was very comfortable. No kitchen/ cooked meals available but was told we could go to the other hotel for our evening meal. We had a lovely nights sleep . We chose to have a continental breakfast and was happy with the selection and quality.

Just a Shame the restaurant was not available for meals .
