An old worldy inn in a very scenic location. Room very original layout, a Superior king room converted from old stone outbuilding with entrance hall and bedroom upstairs. Fabulously comfortable huge bed and spacious bathroom. Excellent pub food for evening meal and a very tasty varied breakfast. Very good attentive staff

Sloping ceiling with beams in bedroom a bit difficult to movie around in comfortably. Large radiator kicking out a lot of heat but room still chilly. Bathroom with heated towel rail on all the time but room also still very cold. Some sort of central fan noise from adjoining rooms kept coming on throughout night which ruined my sleep.

Our Suite was excellent - comfortable, spacious, met our needs, well stocked fridge if u needed refreshments plus range of snacks (obviously to pay for), we liked being able to park our car right outside the door. Comfortable bed, spacious shower in huge bathroom. Liked the little kitchen area with sink, fridge, variety of drinks glasses. Outdoor seating area with table & chairs was a bonus. Main Pub was charming & well run. Restaurant was excellent, good food, good service. We enjoyed our evening meals. Breakfast was excellent & had a good plentiful varied choice. Staff were all attentive, polite, helpful & made us welcome.

Minor thing - Noisy extract fan in bathroom which continued too long after light switched off (really annoying at night time!). Did not really detract from our enjoyable stay, though.

The meals at the Durham Ox were superb including Crepes Suzettes which were worthy of a Michelin Star. The Studio was an excellent room , very spacious and well equipped with a separate bathroom and a walk in shower.

A dog barked persistently in the entrance to the dining room during dinner. This was very offputting but my wife complained to the waitress and after that the dog and its owner moved away I think away from the dining room as we did not hear it again. My wife cannot climb stairs confidently, being 83 years old but there were 2 flights of stairs to the Studio bedroom so we did not like that.

Staff were very attentive and friendly which helped create a wonderful atmosphere. We stayed in a family suite and a large double room with the car parked right outside. Family suite was outstanding, large double room was extremely comfortable, but watch out for the beams in certain areas of the room. Fantastic choice in the resteraunt, and food was fabulous for both the adults and kids. Lots to choose from on both the food and drinks menu. Also, excellent breakfast in the morning.

Kitchen area and bathroom 5* lovely clean modern feeling .Good to have outdoor area Property set in a beautiful area .Excellently placed for short breaks while it’s position is perfect for exploring the wonderful countryside and villages of Yorkshire

Felt cottage living room was a little grandma’s Removed all cushion’s and left the two modern ones too old fashioned to give a welcome The dining room was packed with massive amount of clutter made it feel grubby and dark Old buildings don’t need to be full of old things clear rooms feel brighter and are cleaner and the features of the building can then be seen Out side needed a short curved panel to provide a little privacy

Loved the cabin. We had the one with 2 bedrooms. Well decorated and furnished. Great showers. A lovely lounge with fabulous views. The hot tub is good. Coffee and tea facilities good but not suitable for self catering. But why would you want to cook with an excellent restauraunt with great choices and very good service. Breakfast is also excellent. We stayed 2 nights though I would stay longer. Although it is out in country within half an hour you can be sat on a York Park and Ride bus.

There seemed to be a problem with housekeeping. Not a cheap visit but they seemed to think making one bed and replacing mugs was a favour. The woman checking us out made sure we knew she had done that and nagged us for a tip. I would not give her a tip again. Service was already included on the bill. It left an unpleasant feeling afyer a great stay

Beautiful location. Attention to detail in our room which was the studio. Amazing views from all the windows. Extremely comfortable bed. The Studio room has both an excellent shower room and a separate bathroom with a huge bath. Lovely for a soak after a busy day. The food was of a very high standard. The bar area and restaurant has character in abundance. We can highly recommend this place for a special occasion or just to treat yourselves.

There is nothing negative to say.

The room for us (Field) was perfect, we had 2 dogs with us so we was tucked away in the corner, there was plenty of room. When we stay again this would be the room we would want again. The staff are so friendly and made the stay perfect, helping with a surprise birthday for my husband.

Our friends stayed in Blue room, which they found too hot but they had a lot of noise. Draymen doing a delivery about 5am. Banging about. And talking loudly to each other. For us personally no faults.

Lovely room, great food, lovely staff, very pretty location, well placed for walking, or visiting nearby towns/cities such as York

Just a slight issue over controlling the heat level in the room. It was lovely and cosy during the day but we would have liked to turn it down at night. Staff were helpful when asked about this and provided a quiet air conditioning fan, but ideally it would be helpful if the control on the radiator could be used.

The layout and location were fabulous the staff in particular Adam were exceptional. There was no power at the property due to storm eyone, we decided to stay were provided lots of candles thry went to collect a food order for us, Adam was brilliant. We are looking forward to returning to experience the hot tub and amazing showers.

The weather was not our friend, but everything else was spot on.
