The location was fantastic right in the town square. The rooms was spacious and clean with everything you would possible need.The breakfast was beautiful the first morning but the 2nd day the eggs hash brown were cold sausage luke warm and no black pudding. I thought it was quick from order been taked to serving was less than 5 minutes.

The 2 bars only one person serving in each bar and having to keep going to hand out food then not have a drink at this bar but might have it at the other bar so queued twice for two drinks. Booked in the restaurant the first night not impressed at all the food was limited and standard pub food at restaurant prices we had to order extras and the vegetables were rock hard. We had a meal in the Italian across the road and it was 100% better and we had starters for the same money. We would definitely stop here again we have stopped at a few off the inn"s collection before thats we stayed here but we would not use the restaurant.

Our room was comfortable, clean and as quiet as I'd requested, with a lovely view of the garden and neighbours' roses. Breakfast was good, though decaf teabags weren't immediately available; stewed soft fruit was delicious, with choices of yoghurt. There were many guests milling about the breakfast bar, so bread for toast tended to run out quickly but was soon refilled. We didn't choose the full breakfast, but other guests seemed to enjoy it. Staff were all helpful and smiling despite being so busy every morning. We only chose one dinner, which was pretty good; I'd have appreciated more veggie options.

Room well furnished, clean and quiet. Comfortable large bed. Hotel conveniently situated in main square. Staff friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast with good choices for cooked egg dishes. Dinner . menu variety, food quality and prompt service all good.

Minor but inappropriate policy economies : 1. No direct phone number for the hotel except for night porter emergencies. 2. No telephone in room linking to reception. our room was more than 100yds and a flight of stairs from reception desk ! 3. No loo brush in the bathroom - apparently a policy not an unlucky omission from our room. 4. Gimmick to save on regular room cleaning and tidying- offer of a free drink in the bar ! 5. There is not enough car parking for hotel guests but narrow streets and hotel location complicates the issue.

Nice olde worlde hotel in a fantastic location on Helmsley market square. Helpful staff and good facilities including a lovely garden, decent sized rooms/comfy beds, two bars and large restaurant area. Good range of food and drinks available.

No lifts so some rooms are a long walk with baggage. Bathrooms tight for space and difficult to keep floor dry due to shower arrangement. Food is ok, standard fare, but nothing exceptional. Kitchen seems to be understaffed as they struggle in peak periods, but all staff did their best in the circumstances.

It's a nice hotel in lovely surroundings . Helmsley is a tourist attraction and close to the moors and wonderful views from Sutton Bank . The hotel is as described and very good breakfast with lots of choice .

We were told on arrival if you choose not to have housekeeping you are entitled to a free drink . I don't understand . The day we arrived obviously the room was ready for the two night stay . We opted for no housekeeping and went to claim our free drink on that day . The bar staff said the free drink was for the day before / arrival day but housekeeping is done that day . I don't understand . It doesn't matter but its the principle of the situation

Read some very poor reviews that may have led me to cancel if it wasn't for knowing the hotel from a stay last year, To counter those reviews, room was clean, everything worked, the food was very good and prompt and staff friendly and helpful. The beautiful garden was a great selling point. Location on the square at Helmsley could not be better. Took our dog and the hotel could not have been any more dog friendly if it tried. We we warned in advance there were building works in progress but they had no impact on our stay, did not notice them at all, so don't be put off.

Only area that I would agree with the reviews was the hotel was short staffed but I expect that is true in many hotels these days. Given the impression everyone was working flat out which made our stay a tad frenetic.

Room was comfortable. Staff were friendly. Service was generally good, not quite as good in the morning but the hotel was very busy. There was a good selection at breakfast but our friends said that the cooked breakfast on day 1 was overcooked as though it had been kept warm a long time. My eggs benedict was cold on day 2. Lunch however was very good. Because our friends were not happy with the breakfast we didn't eat there in the evening although I would have liked to give the restaurant a try. The beer garden was very nice when the sun came out. Helmsley is reasonably close to the coast and places such as Castle Howard.

There is parking on site but when it is busy it is not always possible to get a space and so you may have to pay for public parking. our friends parked up the road under trees and their car was absolutely covered in bird poo!!!

The hotel has helpful and friendly staff and has a relaxing and comfortable lounge/bar/restaurant areas to wind down the day in. I enjoyed a couple of nice beers one evening in the lounge with a book in hand and felt like I was right at home The menu has a good choice of meals available as well as drinks from the bar. There is also a really good deal they do with guests in that if you do not need your room cleaning in the morning (if staying more than one night) then you get a free drink at the bar (thumbs up for me).

Not really anything that can be done about but it did appear that the walls are thin and noise did seem to travel quite easily.

breakfast choice very good and cooked breakfast hot and not at all greasy liked being able to make my own tea We only had dinner on one night and it was good value for money and well cooked. We had ordered 2 different pies but 2 of the same arrived; however the staff quickly said they would recook but we said we were happy to both have the same

parking was difficult but at least we were able to park in the square overnight on the only day we moved the car; the rest of the time we hiked from the hotel which was great Did not like the shower - over a very high bath and to turn on and off you had to go via cold

Ideally located in centre of Helmsley. Good breakfast and great food in bar meals. We had booked a larger room this time which was much better.

There are a lot of stairs within the hotel so bear this in mind if you struggle with mobility. The directions to the rooms are well signed but getting back from the room to reception is poorly signed (Room 29). Food at breakfast and dinner was good, staff seemed to be working hard but we experienced long waits on 2 of the 3 days we stayed. All hotel parking was gone by 4pm so you have to park in main square council car park. Just need to plan around this.
