The place is amazing. Clean, staff lovely and polite with excellent customer service skills. Rooms well equipped and immaculate! Electric velux window blind top notch! Biggest TV we’ve ever seen in a room, not the makings of a trip but certainly a bonus. Bed so so comfortable! Shower is lovely with plenty of pressure. Fridge in the room is a nice surprise with complementary water. Kettle water free and clean! Lovely tea tray. Court yard is a sun trap, well maintained with plenty of clean tables. Lovely pint and extremely well priced as well as the spirits and mixers. We have been to lots of places over the years and the evening meal here was the best we’ve ever had for “pub grub” it was beautiful. Starters were large no skimping on portions and the mains were 10/10! Service was the best we’ve had in a long time. Breakfast was again 10/10. Tea for two actually was enough for two and extra cups!

BEAUTIFUL ROOM, VERY SPACIOUS, STUNNING BATHROOM. THE ROOMS WERE SEPARATE FROM THE PUB BUT JUST A FEW YARDS AWAY IN THE GROUNDS. WATER BOTTLES IN THE FRIDGE PROVIDED IN THE ROOM ALONG WITH TEA/COFFEE/BISCUITS. HAIRDRYER, IRONING BOARD, IRON, TOILETRIES SUPPLIED ALONG WITH TOWELS. VERY COMFY BED. PUB ATMOSPHERE WAS FRIENDLY AND NICE AND COSY WITH GOOD FOOD AND GOOD BEER. TICKED ALL OUR BOXES - DOG FRIENDLY TOO. PLEASANT RIVERSIDE WALK INTO THIRSK WITH LOTS OF PUBS AND SHOPS, PLUS A VISIT TO JAMES WIGHT (JAMES HERRIOT) HOUSE/VISITOR CENTRE IS A MUST.

NOTHING NOT TO LIKE. ALL GOOD.

This was our second stay at the Old Oak Tree. Just as previously, everything was super. There were no negatives at all for us to mention. We had the same room again (the rooms are part of an external annex, only 10 yards or so from the main premises and all part of the Hotel site). Our room was spacious and very tasteful. Curtains and venetian blinds for privacy, large bed, nicely carpeted, a good-sized mirror over a dressing table / chair with sockets very close (very useful), nice lighting with wall switches next to bed, nice spotlessly clean bath / shower combo, good hot towel rail, a good hospitality tray, a fridge with complimentary bottled water, a very comfy two-seater couch (you rarely get a chair, let alone a couch in many places so this was a nice touch), writing desk and chair near TV and alarm clock. Another bonus was the high ceiling with a "Velux" type of overhead window which was operated to open/close privacy blind using a small remote control. Once again we had evening dinner pub itself. We booked a table before we arrived and this is advisable. The food was excellent and so it can become busy (deservedly so in our opinion). The main dinner menu has lots of choices but also there’s a very tempting specials board. A good choice of beer and other drinks, so we indulged and enjoyed. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice and we went for the cereals and full English with toast and very good tea and coffee. Again, as last time, we made very welcome on arrival and that the service from all of the staff was very friendly, attentive, courteous and very professional. Nothing was any trouble and we could not have asked for better guest care. 10 points again and well deserved.

The welcome was great, which started a good experience. I arrived in the dark and when I went into the bar to check I was in the right place (which was actually very easy to find), one of the young ladies showed me to the car park and the location of the room. So the check-in was perfect. Despite my late arrival there was enthusiasm to see me fed and the full menu was offered. There were some very good "specials" on the board which were sold out (a reflection of the level of custom the business has and deserves) but there were no restrictions on what I could choose from. My dinner was delivered to my table, hot and delicious. The breakfast the next morning repeated the experience, with the choices being excellent and what I ordered arrived quickly and freshly made. The room was a small suite with all the facilities I would expect. It was clean, quiet, cosy and very comfortable.

This is doesn't really deserve to be "What I didn't like" but something I would think is positive honest feedback. The room could do with a new shower head.

Separate accommodation from the pub, clean and tidy. Plenty of tea and coffee supplies. Friendly staff and very good menu for an evening meal. Breakfast was very good. Good value for money.

There was a sky light in the room so needed to wear an eye mask so I didn’t wake up at 4.30am when it gets light (in June). Room was very warm, there was a window but didn’t want to leave it open all night as it was front facing on the ground floor. There was air conditioning available but it was an extra charge.

Stunning. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was 1 of 5 rooms in a converted barn. A beautiful space, everything you could want and more. Super clean, spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well laid out. Even a fridge is included. A great menu and the food was exceptional. In this cosy family run establishment. Located in a great area for getting out in the glorious Yorkshire countryside, and Thirsk, home of the James Herriot World. Can't recommend The Old Oak Tree enough if you want a great night's stay.

Everything was great.

The rooms were very well equipped with everything you could need. There was a huge walk in shower. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The restaurant served a good breakfast and the evening menu was also excellent, the owners were very hospitable and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Outside to the rear there is a huge terraced patio facing lawns and trees there is also room in the ample sized car park for camper vans.

The Old Oak Tree was an ideal stopping off point between Shetland and the New Forest. Very handy for access from A1 or A19, and minutes from the centre of Thirsk. We were warmly welcomed (like old friends) and were delighted with our accommodation. We decided to dine in the pub, and were mightily impressed by the number of diners and the quality of the food. After a blissful night’s sleep breakfast was a delicious as dinner the evening before. We returned in the evening for our second night, when we were joined by two friends for dinner. There were a few hiccups over ordering welcome drinks for our guests but just minor inconveniences rather than a hassle. Another gorgeous meal and a sleep in slumberland affirmed that in the Old Oak Tree we had discovered a gem of a place to stay! It was a big plus that our dogs were welcomed too.

Things I’d improve? If welcoming dogs, perhaps provide an area of the extensive garden were dogs could be safely exercised off lead without risk of them running up to the road. Also, over-bath showers are a perilous hazard for anyone with a mobility disability, even with a non-slip rubber mat …. just saying!

The rooms are in a separate building from the main pub which I liked. The room was comfortable and large with a good bathroom. Hot drink making facilities and a fridge provided. The location is pretty good if you are travelling by car (which I was) as the location is about a couple of minutes from the A19 junction at the North end of Thirsk. Also only about 10 to 15 minutes by car to Sutton Bank and into the North Yorkshire Moors. Travelling by train would be much more difficult. Whilst there is a station at Thirsk it is out of town in completely the opposite direction maybe three miles away. Breakfast was fried up on demand rather than microwaved so that is a definite plus.

This isn't a dislike so much as a FYI: I noticed a flier in the room that said that air conditioning was available at an additional charge of £5 per night due to energy costs. As early June 2024 still felt like winter it didn't affect me.

Good location, enjoyable river walk from hotel into Thirsk. The young team of staff at this establishment are excellent, and a credit to the business, very keen to help and carry out all requests with a smile. Varied meal options in a nice atmosphere, we avoided the really busy time, so had a lovely relaxing meal. Breakfast was lovely and nicely cooked.

There was a fresh fruit option with the breakfast, but unfortunately no yoghurt.
