This was our third visit to Porch House and, as ever, it was perfect. With ample private parking and a central position the house is perfectly positioned to enjoy Northallerton and surrounding area. The house itself is a wonderful, historic building that has been turned into a beautiful home and B&B. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished and most comfortable. They also come with tea and coffee facilities, home made biscuits, chocolates and fresh fruit. Add the dressing gowns and slippers and it would put many top hotels to shame. Breakfast is excellent with fresh fruit salad, yogurts cereals etc., and the Full Yorkshire has top quality ingredients that are perfectly cooked and nicely presented. Charles and Christine are perfect hosts who make you feel most welcome and this is easily the nicest and classiest place to stay in Northallerton.

Superb location within good walking distance to local shops and restaurants. We received a very warm welcome with a lovely surprise of home baked cakes with tea and coffee . This was perfect and welcoming following our journey, just the right treat to recharge our batteries. The house has retained such lovely features of its period of building with a warm and relaxing appeal. Christine and Charles are proud to host guests in their lovely home, this is truly reflected by their warmth, personalities and attention to detail within the guest room , sitting room and breakfast room . The breakfast is cooked to a high standard and very professionally presented . Christine and Charles are very informed of the area and helpful in recommending places to eat and areas to visit. The Porch house boasts a beautiful garden that offers lots of interest including plants and birds and relaxing areas to sit. We will definitely be returning. A credit to our Hosts Christine and Charles. Many thanks

From the moment I arrived, the welcome was outstanding. The bedroom was in a beautiful house and fabulously comfortable, complete with thoughtful touches like luxurious toiletries, dressing gown and slippers, homemade biscuits, tea and coffee with fresh milk, chocolates, and a generous fruit platter. I was invited to sit in the garden with a pot of tea and treated to three delicious homemade cakes, along with helpful local dining recommendations. I had a wonderfully restful sleep, and breakfast the next morning was exceptional — fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea, coffee, and a superbly cooked breakfast. Parking was available onsite, and the hosts, Charles and Christine, were a lovely couple - nothing was too much trouble. I’ll definitely be booking again. It’s not often that a work trip feels this comfortable and restorative.
Nothing!

Excellent stay at the legendary Porch House in Northallerton town. Lovely hosts very eager to please, lots of fresh fruit in the room, comfy bed and an excellent Yorkshire cooked breakfast to start our next day's travelling. Very good value for the standard of accommodation on offer. We had an enjoyable evening meal in the Golden Lion hotel about 10 mins walk down the main street, nothing fancy but attentive service and a well-cooked plate at honest prices.
Most things were excellent, the en-suite bathroom/shower was a little cramped for 2 people sharing.

Everything! It was the picture perfect quintessential English B&B! The owners couldn’t do enough for you! Such lovely people! And the attention to detail is phenomenal; from the little touches in the rooms like robes and slippers, chocolates and fresh fruit (our room was £115 for the night so we expected a very basic level of accommodation) to the breakfast with an array of fresh fruit and a delicious, beautifully presented, locally sourced cooked breakfast. Not to mention the freshly squeezed orange juice and beautiful dining room. Couldn’t recommend Porch House highly enough.
Nothing!

I liked everything. I would say the attention to detail is second to none. Charles and Christine were attentive to any needs I had. E.g. Christine came out to greet me and to offer to carry any bags for me and Charles sent me on my way the next morning with a very good cooked breakfast. My room was thoughtfully prepared with a bag of chocolates, a wonderful selection of fresh fruits beautifully arranged on a small glass stand and the beverage tray had a big selection to choose from. The house itself is steeped in history and there is a sense of going back in time. I would definitely stay there again.

Central location. Interesting historic guest house. Friendly hosts Charles & Christine gave such personal service and attention. Greeted with homemade cake & a pot of tea in lounge. Good quality fruit bowl, some homemade biscuits & a few chocolates in room. Excellent breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice, locally caught kipper & poached eggs with lovely fruit selection. A special place & very reasonable value for the quality of service
Some rooms at front are on the main road (although didn't seem that noisy and I was kindly offered a room at the back & a double rather than the twin I had booked)

We received a warm welcome from the host Charles. The room was a great size and nicely furnished, really clean with lots of extras that you would normally receive only in a very nice hotel. There were bath robes and slippers and nice quality toiletries. Fresh fruit and chocolates and bottled water. The shower cubicle was a good size and the water pressure excellent. Breakfast was very nice.
Shower room was on the small size although the shower cubicle itself was a good size

The host was really welcoming. Offered us tea and homemade cake in the lovely lounge as soon as we arrived. In the room there was also a small bowl of fresh fruit, a small packet of chocolates and some homemade biscuits (the b & b is run by an ex chef and restauranteur). There was also fresh milk for tea in the room. The bed was very comfortable, with a lovely airy quilt, soft pillows and crisp white cotton sheets. There was even a dressing gown and slippers. My room was at the back of the house overlooking a pretty little garden so was very quiet. At breakfast there was freshly squeezed orange juice and more fresh fruit, plus I had the biggest omelette I have ever seen. I was stuffed!
These are only very small criticisms. Nothing they can do about it but the en-suite was quite compact. Very clean though (apart from the bottom of the shower door which perhaps could have been cleaner but it may well have been limescale which was very difficult or impossible to remove) and with some good toiletries. The breakfast room was fascinating with the old range and old map prints on the wall. I just felt it lacked a bit of warmth (not in terms of temperature). Not sure what could be done about it. Maybe some colourful cushions on the chairs and/or some small plants/flowers on the tables to give it a bit of colour/lift it. These are really minor criticisms though.
