Superb food. Had breakfast and dinner and both were plentiful and very tasty. Having Timothy Taylor's Landlord on tap made it even better! We had a large room with seating area which was very comfortable and nicely decorated in the pub's horse-racing theme - our room was named after Kauto Star, a well-known (apparently!) National Hunt champion horse. Large car park - no problem finding a space. Excellent Beer Garden - unfortunately a bit cold to enjoy during our visit.

Booking-in process was a bit confused as the description of one of the rooms we booked on Booking.com didn't quite match up with what we were allocated. The staff made sure we were upgraded to a better room though so no complaints there.

Totally fabulous bedroom called Dawn Run. Out in extra annexe called The Coach House. Loved all the quirkiness of the Inn in general. Fun themes and amusing bric-a-brac. Buzzy atmosphere in the bar/restaurant. Obviously popular with locals. Nicely decorated. Food was delicious. Sunday roast was amazing. Great staff. Very polite, friendly and competent. Quiet village, so we had peaceful sleep. Ample parking too. All great. We've stayed before and have stopped for lunch before, and would certainly return.

Nothing. It was all great. Oh ... except the double bed in our fabulous room had no space round it for a bedside table/lamp. Not so good for older people like us when a bed is up against a wall. :-) Otherwise, no complaints.

Great location just off the A1. Staff we were really friendly and accommodating. Room was clean, bed comfortable. A lovely pub, we ate in the restaurant on our first evening - highly recommend, evening food was great.

The room wasn’t as advertised on booking.com. We purposely chose to pay extra for a standard double/twin as opposed to the small double as the pictures showed you could walk all around the bed as opposed to the bed being up against a wall. Unfortunately the room we were put in wasn’t shown on booking.com or even on the Black Horse Inn website, it felt dark and unfortunately the bed was close to the wall, you could not walk around it and had to use only one side to get in and out. No shelf in the bathroom. Bacon was rock solid and poached eggs overcooked at breakfast.

This is my third stay at BH. I use it as a stop over on my return from Scotland to the south of England after an extensive motorbike tour. The rooms are spotless clean, comfortable and quiet. It is located in a small, quiet village and perfectly located to explore, especially out to Whitby and Robin Hoods bay. The staff are great! Friendly, provide a great service and will sit and have a chat at the bar. The Menu is varied and accommodates all tastes with a changing specials menu and an accompanying wine list as well as great local beers. There is ample parking from Motorbikes to motorhomes. Although I would feel comfortable leaving the Bike parked out front all night, the management provide a secure facility with peace of mind for the duration of my stay.

I keep going back so there is nothing to not like.

My Girlfriend and I went on a long weekend away and stayed at this lovely countryside Inn. As we arrived the staff were very welcoming, helpful and made us feel at home. The room was spacious, comfy and filled with all the amenities you could need, with daily checks if you needed a top up of anything. Mark was on the bar the first night and he definitely knew how to pull a cracking Timmy Taylors & Guinness accompanied by great chat. The breakfast in the morning served by Sam (The friendly giant) who catered to all our needs again with great chat. All round a great experience!

From the moment we checked in the staff were excellent, the room was immaculate,breakfast had an amazing choice, we had booked dinner for Saturday night which was both superb in both quality and quantity, it was served by attentive and jovial staff, we enjoyed it so much we had dinner on both the Sunday and Monday evening which was a first for us as we do not usually eat at where we stay. This venue was superb in all ways , thank you for a great anniversary break

Everything was as it should be

A good choice for breakfast & evening meal, we didn’t have to wait long for the food to be served, polite waiter / waitress. Restaurant area is welcoming & relaxing with music playing in the background in the mornings. Always plenty of parking spaces.

The option of an international dish would be nice on the evening menu or as a special option. All the desserts on the menu were very rich it would be nice to have a lighter option or be able to have a mini version & coffee like some other restaurants offer.

Rooms separate to pub, so nice and quiet. Good surprise. Individual decor, if a little shabby in places, my friend had a larger room so they do vary. I slept well, comfy bed and breakfast was good. The overall package price was okay. Staff were good overall, although a packed pub meant staff were distracted. Plenty of parking behind pub/house.

The car park was not lit, so hazardous at night. Easily remedied. Flaky paint in my room. Nail sticking out of carpet retainer going into bathroom.

Characterful building in a quiet location in a very quiet village convenient for A1 travellers. Good food in restaurant. Very comfortable bed.

Bed was slightly too large for the room - one of the posts of the (sort of) four poster bed was too close to the window. You really had to squeeze by! The bed was very large (I’d say the size of 2 single beds together). A normal king size would fit the room better (and you could dispense with the rather pointless pseudo-4 poster element)

I was overjoyed with how lovely it was. We were stuck in traffic and the girl waited up for us, until after midnight, until we finally arrived. The room was beautiful, she had put the lamps on for us getting in and left hot chocolate all ready for us to boil the kettle. Thank you so much, what a beautiful and relaxed end to an horrendous day lol And for what we paid this was 10 x better than what we expected And the wee room names and antiquities and curios were the sparkle on top 😇

Nothing, or maybe us arriving earlier and not having to leave early in the morning. I wanted to explore the place so will most likely be back
