Fabulous hotel, we loved it. After a long day travelling, we arrived during the busy dinner service but it was no trouble at all to be checked in, shown our room, and offered a table. Such a lovely warm welcome. The food was delicious, both dinner and breakfast the next day. The room small and cosy, with beds upstairs, and all exceptionally clean. The owners answered all our questions about the history of the place and nothing was too much trouble. Our favourite hotel stay of all during our 6 week trip.

Not a negative at all and no problem to us, but be aware of the narrow staircase in the room up to the beds and that the bathroom is downstairs.

A family-run hotel with a warm and friendly atmosphere. All staff members were welcoming and attentive. Menus to suit most palates and meals were tasty. Comfortable enough but see next question for further description of the room. Free car park (but accessed via a very narrow stone archway off a single-track lane).

The layout of the chalet-style bedroom was not quite as anticipated and won't suit some people, especially the narrow stairwell to the mezzanine sleeping area with its low ceiling, and a downstairs seating area and bathroom both compromised in size by the inclusion of a sauna cabin - which, no doubt, others will consider a welcome luxury and an attractive selling point.

The hotels staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was made to order which is good, I didn’t eat in the hotel as I was visiting a relative who cooked for me but seeing the meals being served they looked very appetising. I was staying in one of the chalets which meant very quiet no road noise even though the hotel is on the Main Street, you get a small living area with settee downstairs and beds on a balcony type first floor. My only complaint is that in this day and age having a TV that’s not much bigger than my laptop screen probably needs upgrading.

Lovely large room with a double bed and two singles (unusual for family rooms which usually have a sofa bed) so much better for our kids who don’t settle as well if they have to share. Our room wasn’t actually in the hotel but above a laundrette a few doors down which was unexpected but worked fine for us, everything was really clean, not the flashiest but did exactly what it needed to. The breakfast was great, most of us had pancakes which were lovely (and a really generous serving). There were also standard buffet bits. We didn’t eat in the restaurant for our evening meal but the menu looked great. The staff were really lovely, sweet with the kids and our dog and super helpful.

I stayed in Suite A - comfortable, clean and good faciilities with a jacuzzi bath. The tea and coffee making facilities were great. THe bed was great, spacious and clean. Great facilities for walkers and cyclists (they could store your bike). Breakfast was great - small full English was delicious and presented with care.

The TV was very dated and didn't work great - the sound was very tinny. Probably not needed now most people have phones. The decor was a little dated, but it was spacious and clean and that's what's mattered more

We stayed in two story room at the back of the hotel, with a small living room and the bathroom downstairs and two single beds upstairs. This was compact but suited our needs perfectly. The beds were comfortable and the shower was great. There was adequate parking, down a little lane, right outside our door. The reception and restaurant were easier to locate and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful. There is also a Sainsbury and laundrette a very short walk away from the hotel. The hotel is in the centre of Britain and across the road from the marker that provides this information.

The room was big with a huge comfortable bed, and the calefaction worked adequately. It had a kettle for tea, tea, and some biscuits too. The manager/owner was super friendly, and even though I am a Latin American traveller, I felt welcome in this little sleepy town in Northumbria. The food was a big plus. They served strong coffee and a full English breakfast, and they even had options for vegetarians! You can reserve a lunchbox for your adventures in the Footpaths of Hadrian's Wall for 10 pounds. The dinner was over the top. It was a big portion and cooked on the spot. It felt like a 5-star restaurant. I have the opportunity to return to do the Hadrian's Wall walk, I'll return to this hotel.

I have no complaints. The hotel met my expectations and more.

We are bikers and off street parking is always something we look for when choosing places to stay. The hotel had an excellent courtyard at the rear. As a bonus our rooms were actually little chalets which were also in the courtyard, so our bikes were practically right outside our door. The chalets have the bedrooms on a mezzanine floor, meaning the bathroom and separate sitting area are on the ground floor. Chalet 9 has a sauna too. A little dated but works perfectly well. Breakfast is excellent. A good choice of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, full English, smoked salmon, avocado on toast, basically something for everyone. The evening meals looked good too, but we didn't eat at the hotel in the evenings, we were out and about. Our hosts and staff were more than welcoming.

We were a little disappointed that the hotel only had a small "hotel" bar, not really a place to gather and meet people in the evenings. But this is a very personal choice. I am a big fan of real ales and the Traditional British pub. Such establishments are only a short walk away from the hotel and so it didn't really detract anything from our stay.

Stayed here one night doing the Hadrian's Wall Path. Loved the comfortable, modern room we stayed in which fronted onto the car park. Upstairs had the beds and downstairs the sofa, bathroom and TV and we found this a useful layout for our needs. Staff were very helpful and a delicious breakfast was cooked to order. Town itself has some quirky shops and the Manor House opposite has a nice beer garden.

A friendly welcome and easy parking in an off road carpark made a good start to the visit. The second floor room was very spacious as was the en-suite. Comfy beds, fluffy towels and heated tiled floor in the ensuite were all appreciated. All staff went out of their way to ensure everything was as it should be. Breakfast was plentiful, well cooked and well presented and the evening meals in the restaurant offered a, varying, wide choice, all flavourful and tasty.
