I am a 60-year-old solo traveller from the US. I was given a beautiful room downstairs that was very clean and stylish. The mattress was quite nice and the room comfortable. The bathroom was across from the room. It was quiet. I paid extra for dinner which was delicious. The kitchen was really nice to make tea in the morning. The other residents were friendly. I highly recommend this place. it is by temple #8. On the weekends I was told that the bar was open and sometimes music. It was in a nice and quiet street.

I loved everything. I am sure it will gain more character with time especially the garden.

Super cool hostel with a very cozy communal area. Erica and Umi were great and Hiwasa was a super cool little town. I stayed in the family room as a single, which was still very affordable. The room was great with access to a large deck and views of the river. There's also a sweet little pub that Erica and Umi run next door. Both the hostel and pub are full of cool woodcraft and pictures.

The owners are very friendly and the accommodation is unique and has a great fun vibe. There is a pub on the property with beer, wine and cocktails and good music. Our kids loved the cat who is also friendly. Free bikes to ride around town. Walk from the station. Great views from the rooftop area. Clean and comfortable. We rented a private family room. Would definitely come back again.

This hostel exceeded my expectations. It was our favourite place we stayed at in Japan. It felt like a second home. You can tell the hostel was built with so much love and attention to detail. It’s in a quiet neighborhood in a small town. There are many hikes you can do nearby and simply enjoy the day just exploring around the area. If you want to have a drink there is also a cool bar right beside the hostel run by the owner. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Convenient location at Hiwasa. On the road just opposite Temple 23. Nice English speaking staff (she is European to begin with). Very homey common area. Plenty of food around if you are not too late.

I hate the fact that there is a structural beam just above my upper bed. Granted its 1 out of the 6 beds in the Dormitory. Just be careful not to hit that.

The place is beautifully decorated and at the same time super comfortable. Very spacious kitchen with everything you need if you want to cook. Lovely terrace to hang out (and also to easily hang up washed clothes), looking at the 23rd temple Yakuoji, which is lit up at night. Staff very welcoming and space to park bicycles. Super.comfy bed. It is a great place and town to stay for more than a day to have a rest. There is an onsen (faster by bicycle) with the pool in front of the ocean and they serve pretty good food (sashimi included!) and accept cards. There is a natural arch to visit next to this onsen and the town itself is really lovely, it had a special vibe, with the traditional houses and the culture regarding the seaturtles that go to lay eggs. Loved the exhibition of the cyclist couple that is put in the living room.

The only thing might be that if it's fully booked you might have to wait at times to use the toilets, or maybe there are more and I didn't see them.

Amazing hostel 🪩❤️ Best stay along the Shikoku pilgrimage (Henro!) so far - definitely stay here! Great energy, staff, and even a pub :) I was so happy to share a home-cooked meal on my second night, Erika is a wonderful cook and great host, she went above and beyond to assist me in booking my next stay and working out how to get there 🙏🏻

My stay was too short...

lovely place with lovely people. there are many small details that make the hostel wonderful. among these I really appreciated the presence of a ukulele and a guitar. For video game enthusiasts: there are also Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. free bicycle rental. they gave me useful advice on how to fully enjoy the place and the local cuisine. they also offered me some persimmons picked from the tree in their garden... delicious! thank you for your hospitality.

A super cool hostel, with private rooms, cool communal areas and a bar (reportedly very good food). Both hosts speak excellent English and were very helpful in assisting us to book accommodation further along the Shikoku 88 Temple trail. Our room looked new, was clean, comfortable and stylish. Highly recommended.

We wished we'd arranged to have dinner in the hostel bar.

We had a great stay here, spacious room, very cosy living room and kitchen. The owners are kind and helpful, explain a lot about things you can do in the area. Facilities are great and lots of small convenient things are provided that make the stay enjoyable.

If you are unlucky with some other guests, it can be noisy, but it is a hostel, so this is to be expected. Beds are hard, but some people might prefer this, not a major issue.
