Perfectly positioned in the heart of old Kurashiki and a short walk from the station. Ivy Square is a collection of old red brick buildings that were previously a factory and the hotel is integrated into this. Staff were efficient and the room was fine for a short stay, although rather small and perhaps lacking some of the finer touches we've had in other hotels during our trip. Perhaps a little updating generally in all areas would be an improvement as it is rather staid.

The square seemed to close down very early - the wine bar (which we know isn't actually part of the hotel)with lovely al fresco tables during the day, shut around 5pm and the hotel bar, although it said open till 9pm wasn't open either. This meant an early night for us once we'd eaten!

It was quaint as architecture. Not too majestic, not too elaborate, the walls themselves here and there are decorated with windows and wall thicknesses, and the framework is unusual. It made me think of the person who had the replica built from England. The employees are like good old-fashioned Western-style hotel staff, but they are good-tempered and friendly people from Okayama. Their presence made me glad. (That's the real pleasure of travel, I think) We went as a family and enjoyed the many types of the local food because we could choose different courses for each person(Surprisingly!) If I lived nearby, I would definitely visit just for the breakfast buffet time to time. The. room had peacefully and lively atmosphere during the breakfast. The selection and combination of food was so impressive. They were serving exquisitely seasoned dishes at the right time. The air conditioner worked well and quietly. I love the views and natural lights from the windows in and outside the buiding. (We stayed ont the ground floor)

The family room was clean and new, with plenty of electrical outlets and lights, but its interior was of the same standard as anywhere else, and the contrast with the original building made them feel even more unsettled. The family room was spacious, but most of the floor was covered with hard carpet and we had to keep our shoes on, so it was a bit difficult for us to relax.

Wonderful setting on the edge of the Bikan historical district. Nice spacious rooms and plenty of amenities. The public bath was simple but the jacuzzi pool was a nice touch - my tattooed travel companion could enjoy the nice tub in our room. Very quiet thanks to the location and the staff were friendly and helpful.

No complaints, perhaps another option of pillow would be nice though. I prefer something much thinner than was offered.

Great hotel in a historic building right in the center of the historic neighborhood. Just steps from the canals, and all the shops and restaurants and museums and views that come along with it. The historic district was very cute and lively, and the hotel was perfectly located for it, and for a base for wandering around the city. The staff were also very professional and polite at all times.

The view from my room was the parking lot, but it was also quiet - and that's what I requested. Also, the way the hotel is arranged, many of the views are of the parking lot/entrance courtyard, but it has real character and is in an excellent location, so don't let it deter you.

Kurashki Ivy Square is a unique and attractive family-friendly hotel located on the edge of the lovely Bikan Historical District. Our room was roomy by Japanese standards, bright and cheery and well organized. The public baths are a nice addition.

The breakfast buffet offers a wide assortment of Asian and Western dishes, but the quality was not as high as in other Japanese hotels we stayed in, and I regretted opting for it.

The hotel locate in Kurashiki main vista, with 1 min. walk to the Kurashiki River and not so far from station. Staffs are very helpful and friendly. The public bath here is not hot spring, but hot bath during winter still hit the spot XD. They provide quite luxury amenity for you. The breakfast is excellent!!

Our room need to walk cross the lobby to public bath, so we cannot wear bathrobe. We went there during off-peak period, so the facility didn't fully open for us to use (Bar was close). It little pricey, still worth for money.

A beautiful and unusual hotel (converted cotton mill) with high ceilings and unique decor, set in large grounds. Staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The surrounding district is quaint and of historical interest with lovely shops, cafes, museums and art galleries. As pretty as Kyoto but without all the crowds!

Nothing really, but you should be aware that Ivy Square has a very big conference centre / wedding venue attached. This can make parts of the hotel very busy. When I was there the beautiful inner courtyard was being set up for a large function with hundreds of tables and chairs and so was not really able to be enjoyed by hotel guests. You also need to know that you have to make a reservation for dinner - don't just turn up. If you miss dinner at the hotel you need to travel into central Kurashiki for food, as everything local shuts down in the evening. Having said all that, I still thought it was a lovely place :)

What an elegant, comfortable and welcoming place to stay ! The hotel and restaurant staff were so kind to me. I didn’t want to leave ! I loved the public bath, the breakfast buffet and the exceptional dinner I had in the restaurant ! I also loved the sleek and comfortable room I stayed in and the central location in the Bikan district. I feel very lucky to have experienced Kurishiki from the comfort of the Ivy Square hotel ! Many thanks to your amazing staff !

Lovely setting very welcoming helpful staff to our party of 6 on arrival and departure. Rooms were clean and comfortable and quiet with toiletries supplied. Lovely shops around with nice selection of gifts to buy. Historic building well preserved . Restaurant available but we didn't eat in the Ivy. Taxis were ordered for leaving no problem and the staff took our cases out and to them . Great option as a stay out from the typical big cities of Japan.

Unfortunately no bar on site open that night and we found all options in nearby Riverside were closed early . Fortunately we ate at 4.30 in a wee restaurant before it shut and later in evening we had to head a fair walk to find a ramen restaurant Breakfast was better and ate in the Biscuit Cafe by the river a wee gem of a place.

We have found Japanese beds pretty uncomfortable in the main - always very very hard. These were not too bad...a little bit soft. The air con and heating was good and the room was reasonably spacious. The bathroom had the best lighting of anywhere we stayed ion ur Japanese trip. The laundry was fantastic - you could set a code on there machine so you could be sure that your items were safe. We had tried using the provided app for recommendations but when we got to recommended places - they were closed. Sp the next day we asked the staff for specific recommendations and for reservations and their suggestions were fabulous!

The welcome at breakfast time was lovely but the food was pretty average. We had enjoyed amazing breakfasts at other properties we stayed at and this was just....food and average coffee. Not something I looked forward t in the morning. We didn't use the bar as it had usual opening hours. It didn't open until late.
