Hotel Monte Castelo was great! My friend and I went to enjoy Carnaval and the location was perfect. At the beggining of Zona Sul, the hotel was close to Lapa/Centro but also of the zona Sul Beaches and Botafogo and Flamengo neighborhoods. The Subway is just 5min away and during Carnaval we felt really safe in the area. The Staff was nice and friendly and there was always someone at the front desk at all hours of the night. The room was clean and tidy.

There are not a lot of common areas or amenities but it didn't bother us as we were out and about most of the time.

It’s a nice, personal little boutique place full of character, without boutique prices, run by some very friendly local guys. Rooms have plenty of comfort and the location is very central in Rio, especially if you want to visit various locations in the city rather than just the beach. We ended up staying way longer than planned (it doesn’t usually book out which is convenient)

The shower was a bit strange - there were 5 knobs and every time a different one seemed to be the correct one. Cleaning could be a bit better, our towels were never changed even after asking multiple times. Note that the area around the corner can be dicey at night, take a taxi.

Great location if you want to be in Gloria yet away from the crowded areas, great value for the money paid, perfect if you don't want to stay in big hotel. I stay in Rio a lot, this is my new go-to. Better quality sheets and towels than most similarly priced hotels in Brasil. Just way more than I was expecting from the price. Friendly staff.

Ask for a room in the back, the front can be a bit noisy. And probably at night the lights in the hallway could be a bit dimmer, they shined through the door into the room. It's not the Ritz Carlton 😀

Excellent place in a great location. The neighbourhood was really nice with bars, food places and supermarkets on the same street and extremely close to the Gloria metro station. It was also close to many different bus routes and we were able to walk to/from the centre during the day and to/from Lapa. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. The room/bathroom was also good with a fridge, big comfortable bed, good Wi-Fi and AC. We couldn’t hear anything from other rooms/guests or the street outside which was perfect for us so we could sleep well. Free water refill available in the shared dining area. It was such a nice place we would definitely stay here again.

We couldn’t change the temperature of the shower and it was too hot for us. The room was slightly smaller than expected from the photos and the sink was in the room but this didn’t end up being a problem for us.

I've stayed here loads of the years. It's always really affordable. The staff are friendly and always help me with my baggage (I tend to have a lot as I travel often with work equipment), the rooms are clean, nicely designed, loads of plug sockets, the air con works well, and it's about 4 minutes walk from the Metro. The wifi is great and location is close enough to Zona Sul in an Uber or by Metro.

I do love a hotel breakfast, and this one doesn't serve breakfast. BUT, I've always known that, and the price difference to stay in a place that serves breakfast really isn't worth the difference.

This hotel offers outstanding value due to its round-the-clock front desk service, convenient proximity to Santa Teresa and local restaurants, and its safe location. The rooms are practical, featuring a highly comfortable bed with plush pillows and impeccably clean sheets. The compact bathroom, while small, is still functional and equipped with a hot water shower. The air conditioning functions efficiently, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Moreover, the diverse and welcoming staff members are incredibly helpful and friendly, proficient in English.

Considering the price and the array of advantages offered here, I can honestly say that I have no complaints whatsoever. In my opinion, this represents an excellent value for a stay in Rio.

Location was brilliant for carnival. Lots of nearby parties and restaurants, supermarket and pharmacy. Close to public transport. The staff were helpful and kind and always smiling. Free coffee in morning was good. The rooms were modern and the showers worked well and housekeeping was efficient. Bed comfy.

Rooms didn’t have external windows and I felt the photos were a little misleading. But we didn’t mind.

Late Check-in ( operates from 5 pm onwards). The location was fine to visit the main attractions around the center. It is very close to metro station (Gloria). The area is safe. There are some restaurants and markets. The room was very small, as informed, but it was comfortable and clean. The staff were kind and helpful.

My room was internal and the only window was facing a ventilation shaft.

The best little gem in Rio!!!!! Super clean, safe, charming, classic Rio from the early 1900s. Close to beach and the city vibe of Rio. Don’t miss this one, no matter your budget or plans because this experience is one of those memorable times of your life.

Could use rooms for a family of four

Good location, near the subway station, with bars and shops just around the corner. Quiet environment, good-sized bathroom and bedroom, comfy bedding.

The air conditioner wasn’t as cold, considering how hot it gets in Rio, and the curtains weren’t blackout, which made the room much too bright very early in the morning.
