Lovely traditional feel on arrival but the rooms are modern and clean. Good amount of car spaces. Onsen is excellent! Particularly the female onsen. The view is wonderful. Staff are welcoming and always smiling.

The furniture in the rooms was random. Some modern, some antique and has a bit of a jumbled feeling. Also some of the “lounge” chairs are not very comfortable. We had two rooms, one room had coffee and tea, the other room only tea. Not a huge issue but why are they different. Only two pillows provided. One super hard and one soft. We had to use a towel for a pillow as we could not use the hard one.

I truly enjoyed the stay at Tabist. I stayed in the family room as a solo traveler. The hotel is located near the shopping street and nicely tucked away. The historic vibe of the hotel gives it a nice unique touch compared to the newer ones. All the facilities are clean as you are required to take off your shoes and change into the slippers as soon as you enter the hotel. My room to view overlook Otaru and the beautiful teal coloured roof of the main building.

Property is very new. The location is fanstastic - just minutes from the main shopping street (a walk down a sloping road is required). I booked a room with 3 beds and it is truly spacious! Toilet is clean. The onsen is located on the top floor and on the same floor as our room. The onsen is also very nice. Beds, sheets, duvets and pillows are great.

The heater in my living room was faulty and could not be swtiched on. The staff was very helpful and gave me a portable heater instead. The heater in the bedroom worked fine. Apart from this - nothing else.

tasty buffet breakfast, even not many kinds of dishes but fresh. The hotel room is large & nice, comfortable bed. However, the curtain in bathroom with little damaged, cover not so well but it's no problem. We stayed with satisfaction in this hotel, I made the right choice. There has a small pool out of the hotel, maybe consider to raising some fishes or planting some flowers or plants around to make the hotel more beautiful.

Friendly staff (both the local and expat staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful), room was huge (we got a 3-bedder with a living room large enough for me to unroll my workout mat), onsen was decent albeit small.

I was surprised that there was no fresh fruit at breakfast, given this is Hokkaido! Also, would not recommend staying here if you have luggage, unless travelling by cab or car to and from (it's so far up a steep hill).

This hotel has a lot of history and story to tell. We like the combination of old and new in the architecture. Staff is polite, friendly and ready to help. Room is of good size and bed comfortable. The hot bath on the top floor is great. The location of hotel is top - a few minutes walk to shopping, sight seeing and many restaurants.

The property is very clean and tastefully decorated. Our unit with 3beds is very big and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is delicious though some food items can be hotter. The hot bath at 4th floor is simple but with good view. It’s very close to the old street and canals. Overall we had a very relaxing stay

I dont mind as we didn’t have suitcases as The hotel is uphill at the back of the old street. Might not easy to walk there especially in winter

The room was very nice and I liked that it has some history. The path in the snow didn’t bother me but I could see there was an actual driveway with cars so just be mindful of which way Google maps takes you because two of the ways were trails in the snow. Check in was easy for our big family. The breakfast was fun to try for one day but I would go other places for other days. I would stay again.

The pastry provided during breakfast was good. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Friendly staffs and able to communicate in English.

Location, need good driving skills to reach the hotel especially during winter with the icy road. For walking guest, steep walkway to reach the hotel. Onsen, feel unsecure for ladies. Lack of maintenance and not fully equipped with the skin care products.

Beautiful, historical property. Also was a nice change to experience a spacious and traditional ryokan. Unique experience.

If you’re traveling to Otaru in the winter, highly recommend getting a cab from the local train station. If you choose to walk, be prepared to slip and slide the entire walk to the hotel. The roads are extremely icy and just a pain to get to with suitcases.
