Andrea, the owner of the Ostello, is wonderful. He is helpful, responsive, sweet and overall makes the stay a great one. The hotel is charming and cozy, rooms and bathrooms are a nice size, beds are comfy, buffet breakfast is lovely and filling (he got us boiled eggs as well since we asked about eggs), the terrace is gorgeous. Could have spent more time here :)

The only thing to be aware of is that the path from the train station to the Ostello is largely cobblestoned and there are no Ubers (small town). It takes 15 mins or so to walk there with a bit of a slope. Try to arrange a taxi via the hotel beforehand (we learnt and did this on the way out). The bathroom has limited toiletries, we had brought what we needed so wasn't a problem.

Andrea, our host, was amazing. Super friendly and very helpful in ensuring we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. He contacted car rental company to ensure our vehicle was ready and provided much-appreciated assistance in mapping our route to our destination. Breakfast was good, pastries, jams, cold-cuts, and very inexpensive (7 euros each). Room was clean and rustic, with wooden beams and many charming nick-nacks. View from room and from balcony was spectacular, beautiful mountains surrounding town and majestic snow-capped mountains in the far distance. Pastoral landscape was very peaceful and nostalgic.

Would have enjoyed eggs, bacon and sausage for breakfast. Room was a little warm for sleeping even with oscillating fan due to lack of a/c. Did not find taxi from train station so had to lug suitcases a few hundred meters to the facility, over cobblestone roadways so was tiring and a little frustrating.

We would 100% recommend this delightful hotel to stay. Convenient to explore the little town of Tirano, the service was exceptional and our host Andrea was wonderfully friendly and helpful, even to the point of opening breakfast 15 minutes early for us so we could eat before catching our early train. The rooms were comfortable and well fitted out, and there was a lovely little alfresco area that was pleasant to sit in, with fantastic views over the town and of the mountains. We will definitely be back.

It was in a great location, with easy access to restaurants, both in the old city and the new. It had all the modern facilities, whilst still retaining the old world charm. Our host, Andrea, was extremely helpful and assisted in whatever way he could. He even asked us to contact him on our arrival at the railway station, so that he could pick us up, which we thought was a lovely touch and very convenient.

Our room was a little tight for space with our 2 large suitcases and cabin luggage, but we were still able to make it work.

We could not have asked for a better hotel experience. It was the most charming, truly authentic Italian experience you could imagine - like out of a Hallmark Christmas movie. The hotel amenities were updated and new - very clean and well kept, but at the same time the actual hotel building is centuries old and the owners have done an amazing job at keeping all of the historic charm intact. The stone walls and wood beams... and the way the hotel lobby is decorated all lend themselves to feeling like you are stepping back in time (in a good way). The rooms had big shutters that would swing open into the courtyard (that the owners set up for outdoor activities like basketball) and also allowed views of the charming porches/walkways outside of each floor that were decorated with lights and festive charm. AND - as if all of that were not enough, the owner showed up how to go up onto the rooftop terrace and then walk up the side of the mountain for sweeping views of the town below, the alps, and the stars. It was truly amazing - all of it! The breakfast served downstairs was complete (cheeses and meats, pastries, cereals, yogurts, juices) and they had a full coffee bar where he would make you as many individual cappuccinos (or other coffee drinks) that you could want. The service was remarkable and Andrea made you feel like you were old friends he was hosting. I also have to say something about the location - prime! Easy walking to to the train station (Bernina Express to The Swiss Alps!), shopping, churches, winery and fabulous Italian restaurants - and you got to all of that by walking from the hotel through the cozy network of street passageways that would open up to fountains, and wine bars, and all other sorts of treats for the eyes. We were only there one night and a part of a day and wish we had booked it for longer. A true gem of place!

Nothing! We truly loved it ALL!

We loved absolutley everything about this property. The building is beautifully restored with a great history behind it. Andrea was the perfect host - friendly, accommodating and so helpful. We felt like we were staying in a home away from home. The room was very comfortable for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens). The breakfast was fantastic. It was in a great location - only a 10-15min walk from the train station and a few minutes to local restaurants. Highly recommend this property.

The building and grounds are gorgeous. I believe the owner, Andrea, said this was a 14th century building. Andrea was so friendly and welcoming. He gave us dining recommendations and chatted with us during breakfast telling us the history of the building and his experience as the owner. He has blended the old and the new seamlessly to create a warm and welcoming stay. The beds were super comfy. Breakfast was delicious and was served in the old stable which has been beautifully reinvented. The hotel was about a 10 minute walk from the train station and set at the edge of town so it backed to a hillside and some woods so it felt very private though very close to all the town had to offer.

There is no air conditioning and it was a hot summer night. But we were able to leave the windows/doors open and there were fans so we all slept quite well. So, in the end I'm not sure I would say I didn't like it. I really enjoyed the fresh air. But some people might really want air conditioning (but we found this hard to find across our whole visit to Switzerland and Italy).

We stayed as a family. Although the place itself is from the 6th century, the interior is very new, clean and tastefully furnished. Inside there are small and large trinkets, toys and many handmade details. Although it was in the middle of nature, there were no insects inside. There were insect repellent products similar to mothballs placed in beautifully embroidered handmade cloths that were hard to notice. The breakfast was prepared in very nice containers. Andrea is a very gentlemanly and friendly person. I can say that he is one of the best, if not the best, hotel manager I have ever encountered. The view from the terrace looks great, be sure to take a look. In summary, I and my family left very happy.

The only missing part is the hotel's parking lot 150 m ahead.

The hotel is unique since it is within an old building which was built 700 years ago. It now contains a number of very comfortable rooms which were brought to a high international standard by its owner Andrea. He is essentially a oneman show and he is keen to personally fulfill all wishes of his guest. The breakfast buffet was extraordinary. You will never find a better and friendlier host anywhere.

Nothing.

Very convenient location and Andrea is what you could call a super host!! Andrea is the nicest hostel owner you can come across. The property has been in their family for centuries (!!!) and pride of ownership shows. Super awesome hideaway spot on top of hill in backyard for views over Tirano.
