Great location. Nice staff. Complementary breakfast left in room. Comfy bed. Very clean other than finding a previous guests sock in a drawer.

WiFi didn’t work Not shown how to use hot tub and staff didn’t know how to work it when we asked after struggling to turn it on in the morning - therefore couldn’t use it. When leaving found out there is a red switch outside the bathroom that needed to be switched on, not made obvious. Frustrating when paying extra for a room with hot tub. A simple instruction page left in the room would have been ideal

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Central location was great - literally around the corner from the Abbey! The hotel is in a very old Tudor building with charming themed rooms. Our room was clean and cosy with a large double bed plus a small table and 2 chairs. The bathroom was very modern and there was a mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities and a small breakfast of cereal and croissants provided in the room. There was also a large stand up fan in the corner which was effective in keeping the room cool (it was a lovely warm and sunny weekend in May). We got the room for a very good price and thought it was great value.

It wasn’t very clear how to get into the hotel. There's a big sign on the building above an old antique shop so looks like that’s the entrance but you actually need to enter via the tapas restaurant next door and the hotel is above the restaurant. The room although cosy was a little cramped with no storage space really but it was fine for one night. There are steep stairs up to the rooms but to be expected in a building of that age.

Everything was amazing! The room was clean, the bed was comfy, new bathroom, the location excellent-right next to the cathedral in the city center. The building is pretty old from the 1500s and so the rooms were inspired by it, which is pretty cool. We really liked it! Sasha, the host, was extremely helpful and kind, she asked everyday if we needed new breakfast and room service. Since I'm gf and lactose intollerant she brought me special cookies and milk to have a normal breakfast as well. Would definitely reccomend it!

Maybe the heating not working, but we were given a small radiator so it got warm.

You couldn’t ask for better in terms of location and charm! The Sun Room was beautiful and cozy, bathroom spacious and really fun extra with getting to use the jet tub! Staff were super nice and helpful, checked us in super quickly despite also taking care of the restaurant downstairs. They kept our backpacks safe too after checkout which was super kind. Our room was clean, and well set up and for the price we paid which was a real steal, having a little breakfast arrangement in the room worked perfectly. Thanks for everything!

The only thing I wish was that the bathroom products (shampoo, body wash etc) were stocked up better- we found out we had no body wash only when we went to shower late at night.

- The quirkiness of the room - The hot tub. - Options of having a fan or heater in the room

- It wasnt very clear where the hotel was. There's a huge sign on the building directing to the building but looks like old antique shop is the venue but it isn't. I had to phone the hotel as no idea where it was?! Turns out you need to go into the tapas restaurant, and the 'hotel' is above the restaurant. - Very loud at night as its an old building so only single glazed and on the middle of the high street. But the lady who showed us to the room said if it was a problem, she could provide earplugs.

We had a room upgrade to the Charles Dickens room, which was beautiful and cozy! The staff were lovely. The building is fantastic, quirky, and full of history. The Marlowe room's wonky window was a delight. The olives served in the downstairs restaurant were the most delicious i've ever tasted!

the breakfast croissants were horribly synthetic, couldn't eat them. But the cereal and milk etc was all good. Our other room (Marlowe) was full of rather disturbing pictures of staring animals, which were quite anxiety-inducing! One or two I wouldn't have minded, but I was surrounded! That, and the decor generally in this room seemed not in keeping with the rest of this beautiful historic building.

The hotel is very central and located within a very historic building. The room was clean and they provide tea, coffee, water, cereal and two packet croissants. There is a mini bar if Required.

Slight points of improvement are the main entrance door to the building is difficult to open at night. The toilet + shower has a loud macerater. Points to consider are the noise from the street if you are in a front facing room (lots of drunk revellers) and also accessibility, if you struggle with stairs or uneven surfaces, this is not the hotel for you.

Brief breakfast laid out on a tray, small box of cereal and pre-packaged croissant with butter and jam. Tea and coffee supplies sufficient for the day. This hotel is in a building several hundred years old and our room was 'quirky', uneven floors, two cupboards in the room, one with a shower, the other with a toilet (low door, mind your head!). Loved the four poster bed! The main attraction is that it is in the centre of town, two minutes from the Cathedral (the main reason for our visit to Canterbury). The Spanish restaurant on the ground floor was excellent.

Access to the room on the first floor via a narrow and uneven staircase, not very good if you have mobility problems. There might have been some hotel staff but we did not see them other than when checking in.

The Sun Hotel is a 15th century hotel just across the street from Canterbury Cathedral. The location is excellent for accessing the old town center and the main attractions in Canterbury such as the cathedral and the Augustine Abbey ruins. Travelers may be interested to know that the Abbey site is an English Heritage site. We bought a nine day overseas English Heritage pass and visited a number of English Heritage Sites across England. The pass more than paid for itself. The staff at the Sun Hotel are courteous and accommodating. Below the hotel is the El Sol, a tapas bar that serves good food. You actually access the hotel through the El Sol.

Travelers who stay at the Sun Hotel should be willing to accept a small room and bathroom and be willing to park away from the site as there is no parking nearby the hotel. Because of its location, it can be quite noisy at night, but the noise did not concern me because I liked the location of the hotel.

If you are looking for an authentic English experience in a historical building, then the Sun Hotel is the place to stay. We loved the fact that Dickens stayed here. The rooms are a quinticential example of period charm; cozy and quirky, but with the convience of wifi and USB charging ports. The central location means everything is within walkable distance. We plan to return to explore Canterbury and Whitstable, which is only a 20 minute drive away. Our fantastic hosts ensured we had a wonderful stay. Thank you both for making us so welcome. Susannah and Aaron

There was nothing to dislike, as the hosts are on hand to ensure your stay is the best it can be.
