I remember when this was a small locals "Tetley" pub. We liked it then and are delighted that the new owners have made a great job of refurbishing The Railway and making it very nice while still maintaining it's character. It still is a pub with 4 hand pumps but so much more. The room while not massive was more than adequate, very comfortable and very clean. The en-suite was absolutely sparkling. Tea/coffee etc was provided and replenished after our first night. Breakfast was wonderful with a choice of: Full English, smoked herring, omelette, poached eggs. Our full English was outstanding. 2 rashers, 2 sausages, egg, mushrooms, black pudding, tomato, beans, fried bread and toast plus tea and coffee of course. We had an evening meal too, (it was busy so best to pre-book on arrival), with loads of choice and generous portions. I would happily recommend the Railway and will stay again next time we're in Skipton. And only 5 minutes from the canal.

Nothing that I could have reasonably expected

The Railway was a great pub-hotel to stay in. A simple single room to be fair, but perfectly nice for the price, which was less than the Travelodge. WiFi, TV, coffee/tea, biscuits provided and was pleased there was a hairdryer too! And a fan - was a hot night! Nice clean ensuite. The cooked breakfast was superb- really nice to have before a day selling maps at Art in The Pen.

Only criticism- the bed mattress could maybe do with replacing for something a bit more firm, but it was alright. There's no parking, but there is a very reasonably priced car-park just a 3-minute walk up the road. Otherwise, no complaints at all.

Great location, great breakfast, had evening meal which was superb with excellent service, parking is tricky, but ok if you get a space nearby!

Wanted breakfast earlier as heading off to early start cycle event, but not an option.

Conveniently located in the centre of Skipton this pub/restaurant/hotel was a great find. Don’t be put off by the plain exterior as this traditional pub-hotel is so friendly and welcoming. It is also very good value for money while providing good service, food and real ale. We will be returning when we can either to stay and/or to eat and drink we liked it that much. So handy for the market, cafés, canal walks and boat trips and interesting shops. Don’t be put off by the busy nearby supermarkets they quieten down in the evening and a bonus is they provide a handy place to pull the car into for free, albeit limited, waiting.

No outdoor space or dedicated car parking as typical of a town centre but on the positive side there are plentiful car parks both free (from 90 minutes to 3 hours) and reasonably priced all day car parking within a 2 minute walk. We were lucky to return in the quieter evening to find free on-street parking right outside The Railway. As for outdoors there are pleasant church grounds adjacent and a short walk from the beautiful canal side area.

STAFF: The staff were really friendly - had me checked in quickly and gave me all the info needed. Showed me up to my room which was a nice touch. I ate in the restaurant, food was served very quickly, female staff member was very friendly, helpful and attentive. ROOM: Room was very clean, nicely decorated and the bed was one of the comfiest I've slept on! Doors had 'proper' locks which I much prefer as a lone female. The window also opened properly, so could get some fresh air into the room. Tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and kettle in room. Small hanging area for clothes and chest of drawers. Hairdryer provided. No mirror in the main bedroom, which would have been useful - only one was in the bathroom. Towels were on the small side. FOOD: I didn't have breakfast as it was served too late. The restaurant evening menu was good, varied but not too much choice. Well priced for quality and portion size. I had Mushroom Risotto and Brownie for dessert, both were excellent - served very quickly and piping hot. PARKING: There is no car park, however a short way down the street there is a large council car park. This has free parking from 6pm until 9am (per the sign when I visited). I did head out after dinner, and was able to park on the street near the hotel when I returned. LOCATION: I stay in Skipton regularly for work, but have never stayed at the Railway before. There is a large Tesco superstore across the road, with pubs, shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Unstaffed overnight - I prefer to stay at hotels with a 24 hour reception. However there is a mobile number on the back of the room key that can be called out of hours if needed. I was also clearly told when the staff would close. Breakfast - this was offered between 8-9am. I was heading into work before 8am, so this was not helpful.

A clean and comfortable room in a good location close to the centre of Skipton. I did not go down to breakfast as it was too early for me, but my husband did and said it was very good. We did not eat our evening meal there so I can't comment on the food. Breakfast is between 8 and 9am. This is too early for me, especially whilst on holiday. I would have preferred the option to either eat a bit later or else book room only. We stayed on a Sunday and planned to have some lunch on arrival, but we were disappointed to find that they did not serve sandwiches on Sundays, only main meals. Also we did not realise that the pub shuts at 9pm on Sunday, although to be fair, it is on their website.

Joy welcomed me when I arrived, and helped me with my hiking itinerary; so fun! Dinner was extremely delicious! I had the fish pie one evening and Angelina created an amazing goat cheese salad for me another evening. The full breakfast was also great. Location was perfect for me; easy walk to train & bus stations, to downtown shops. Tesco (kind of a cross between Target/Costco/Alberson-Lucky) is a 1-minute walk. Pro tip: there’s an ATM outside the Tesco.

There’s street noise sometimes, mostly sounded like teenagers just being themselves.

Really friendly and helpful staff, owners were lovely and welcoming. Generally very clean and food was fantastic. Massive portions and breakfast was lovely. Rooms freshly decorated and cosy. Excellent location for where we needed to be. Downstairs bar and restaurant gets locked up around 9pm but guests have the key fob to come and go through the side door as they please and it all feels very safe and secure.

Stairs to the rooms were very steep (which is no one’s fault!) but does cause some accessibility issues if you struggle with stairs. Pillows were very hard - again, perhaps just a preference issue Although overall very clean, there was short hairs in the shower cubicle and there was a very long hair in the neck of the kettle, which did put us off a bit.

Stayed here for four nights. The food here is excellent and to get a table you need to book in advance. We only managed to eat one night here as they were fully booked on others. Breakfast was good, full English had everything you expect and of good quality. Also smoked haddock and poached eggs and great omelettes available. Choice of three real ales on hand pump. The location of the pub is easy walking distance to the town and its facilities. Parking is in an adjacent street and there may not always be spaces available. We felt this pub offers good value for money. It is very popular with locals and gets busy every night. On our last morning we discovered the landlady had sold and was handing over the pub to new owners that day. Hopefully they will keep existing staff on as they were all friendly and welcoming.

Bathrooms a little tired, but functional.

I must start by saying I will definitely stay here again. The staff were so friendly, the room was beautiful and so clean and the bed was so comfortable. The food was unbelievable. We had tea on the night time and it was worth every penny. The breakfast in the morning was equally as delicious, cooked to perfection and the perfect amount to set you on your way.

The only thing that I was gutted about was that we weren't staying another night. I would have loved to have the time to stay for the Sunday roast.
