Upon leaving the Old Swan, we were informed it had been sold and all staff had been let go. The Inn would be closed for a week and then re-open under new management. My report is based on the last days of the old owners, not the new management, and therefore subject to scrutiny, since things have undoubtedly changed. I picked the Old Swan because of its location at the entrance to the Yorkshire Dales, our chosen area to visit. They were easy to communicate with and since I had some special requests this was a plus. Easy to find, also thanks to GPS, and with free, on-site parking. Quite new (re-built about 5 years ago) it gives the impression of a much older building with all modern comforts. The room was more than adequate, the bathroom equally so, the bed comfortable and the staff provided everything we had requested, thank you! We loved the breakfasts, and even more so, the atmosphere of the evening meals. After our first meal, fresh off the plane from the States, we decided we could not do better by going out, so we ate every evening meal at the Old Swan. There are three dining areas, two smaller ones, which we particularly liked. It was part of the charm of the building. The food was interesting, well prepared and very tasty. Obviously a talented chef, with imagination. The manageress, I believe her name was Debs, if I got that right, was a wonderful help to us. Not only very personable, she helped us find some hidden gems in the area, gave us good directions to places we might like to see and was a fount of information about the area. It was clear she was a people person and many larger establishments would be glad to have her! Interestingly, as we were at our last day's breakfast (she insisted I have a real English breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed it!) she mentioned this was her last day, the Old Swan had changed hands and all staff had been let go as being too expensive, as of that day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

There was no elevator, and due to my recent knee surgery, the stairs were a challenge. However, I looked upon them as exercise and physical therapy and they were nice stairs with handrails and would be good for me. The shower could have been roomier, but it was adequate. No wash cloths in the bathroom, but we found this to be true almost everywhere.

Everything was seamless with friendly staff, easy check- in, good facilities, free off road parking, extra decorative touches in bedroom such as local soft wool curtains and cushion covers, patterned china cups and saucers for BYO tea/ coffee, modern ensuite bathroom. Most diners in evening were families and couples who were not Old Swan guests… a good sign. Good range of menu for food and drinks. Despite being on main road, the night was quiet. A high bar for hospitality. Highly recommended for the traveller.

My itinerary meant I couldn’t stay longer.

We came two days to visit the Dales and we found the Old Swan location ideal to explore Malham, Ingleton and Aysgarth. Spacious standard double room with all amenities we needed for one night. We found the bed comfortable and quiet to sleep in. As it's a B&B Hotel the restaurant operates downstairs as normal, so dine-in or full English/pastry options are available for breakfast for a reasonable price. The only thing we couldn't sort out was to access Netflix or Disney Plus on the TV, but despite this we overall had a great experience. We recommend it.

I loved everything

Friendly staff, nice clean room perfect size with a nice shower, choice of tea or coffee machine, breakfast was really good with a choice for options, good location to other areas. They gave us 2 bottles of Prosecco for our anniversary too <3 It was a great base and we would definitely return. (But maybe with a rear hotel room)

We had a road side bedroom- the traffic was noticeable from 4am, when going to bed the pub was noisy however they did last orders at 10:45 so soon quietened down. Bed could of done with a little bigger (we knew it was a double room but forgot how little a double bed would fee was when your use to a king) But It was perfect for what we wanted.

The rooms were well appointed, modern, and clean. It exceeded other experiences that we have had we en-suite facilities. The food was delicious. Portion sizes at breakfast were very generous. The dinner menu had a large variety. The evening pub atmosphere was lively, and we had lovely weather to be able to enjoy the alfresco beer garden. This was a gem of an experience

Vehicle traffic is heavy during the day because it sits on the major thoroughfare through Gargrave. However, the location was very convenient for us to visit family and the local attractions. So all in all there really was not any drawbacks.

Really everything was just lovely, everything you needed, perfect room, facilities, upkeep and standards. The breakfast was great, we ate in the restaurant and food was very good. Parking was easy and all the staff nice and helpful. Fan in the room, we needed it so we were grateful for that. The glazing on the windows guaranteed no noise. extremely happy with our stay, we would recommend and stay again.

Only tiny recommendations because we loved our stay. Would have been nice to have some bottled water in the room. A breakfast menu, even if only tiny. Sugar on the breakfast table in the morning. Some sauce bottles were empty. Like i said tiniest things certainly not a deal breaker.

What a surprise, I really didn't know what to expect. Busy pub, lovely dining area, really nice staff. And rooms that are exceptionally. You could not want for anything. All for a very affordable price. Food in the evening was perfect, not an extensive menu, but what I had was done very well. Breakfast is done well, plenty of options. Dog friendly, and access to a lovely path which takes you to a lovely canal walk across from a good carpark.

Good location in pub/ restaurant within easy reach of Skipton and many local attractions and areas of interest. Lovely well equipped bedroom with compact en-suite bathroom. Very clean and comfortable all round with well positioned wall mounted TV. Although located on the main road through the village the room was very quiet with no noise from the bar, restaurant or road.

Finding a parking space was a bit difficult despite having quite a large car park due to the number of pub users with no allocated parking for hotel guests. Breakfast was okay but it was not made clear that it was charged on an itemised basis which incurred additional charges if items from the “continental” menu and “full English” menu were chosen.

We had a large tastefully decorated bedroom It was immediately apparent that the room had undergone a recent renovation, reflecting a high standard. The mini fridge was a convenient addition for keeping our beverages chilled. Nice to have a bath rather than a shower with lots of warm water. Large comfortable bed. Our room overlooked the beer garden. The treble-glazed window ensured that our peace was undisturbed by outside noise. Plenty of free onsite parking space. As pet owners, we were particularly appreciative of the hotel’s pet-friendly policy, with only a nominal £20 additional charge for our dog. All the staff who were very friendly and made a fuss of our dog. The evening meal was good, and breakfast freshly cooked to order. The proximity of a Co-op store just a few minutes’ walk away was incredibly convenient for picking up snacks and essentials. We would stay here again.
