The hotel combines historic character with modern comforts very well. Our room was large, bright and comfortable. The bathroom had the usual modern facilities although the shower was a bit temperamental. The complementary breakfast coffee and scones were good (we left too early to sample the hot items which aren't served until 9.00) We didn’t eat at the hotel but we enjoyed a drink at the beautiful old bar and a chat with the friendly bar tender. The location in the centre of town was very convenient, as was the parking right behind the hotel.

It would be good if the hot breakfast could be served from 8.00 rather than 9.00.

Our room was acrossed the parking lot in the carriage house. Loved the location, restaurant and breakfast scones! Highly recommend the hibiscus lemonade, would rate a billion stars! Celebrated our 10 year anniversary which I mentioned during the confirmation call and we had a handwritten card and local chocolates in the room waiting for us - delicious and thoughtful!

No outlets near the bed and no USB ports - not a bad reason to leave your phones charging acrossed the room and focus on each other though. Parking lot is quite small and shared for the restaurant patrons so we had to park on the road or down by the cafe a few times. The walls are very thin - its something to consider given the history of the hotel and there are quiet hours listed (some guests in the room next to us arrived at 11pm during quiet hours and we could hear everything while they got settled/showered/held just above normal voice level conversation - we just gave some grace, but it's something to note if you're a light sleeper).

not enough parking for an area with limited public transit OR for a hotel which has a restaurant; some covered parking would have been nice in the warm summer--maybe in winter, too no special view from the room at price chosen PLEASE DELETE NAME FROM REVIEW--or just put A, please.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! I love that every little aspect of the hotel has an antique touch to it. The decor is so old time feel, yet modern. Really very stylish. The bar area is very nice as well. The appetizers are delicious and so is the beer. Parking is also very convenient. Really a great hotel….more beautiful than most hotels you’ll ever stay in.

I didn’t like that I didn’t have a way to control the heat. You have to call front desk for them to regulate it. Which is a little inconvenient, especially if you’re like me and like to get it “perfect”. Also the breakfast could be spruced up. And the coffee could be much better. But really minor things, in comparison to all the pros.

Purcell House room was very comfortable and appreciated all the nice touches. Though they charged extra - a surprise - for "amenities" (water, scones/coffee in the morning) I have to say that that mini-breakfast was tasty and welcome. The chef did some extraordinary things at dinner! Loved the food and drinks. Enjoyed the lobby areas and the outside tables. Location was perfect for Grass Valley. Bath was delightful as was the robe. Staff were so friendly and accommodating that I'd love to take them home with me! I truly enjoyed the stay and will recommend it highly.

Purcell House is quieter regarding street noise, but you can hear the other guests walking around at times. Just the case with such an old building but it wasn't a big problem. I was surprised at the arbitrary charge for amenities.

Outstandingly renovated and updated historical building...fantastic clean new feel but still incorporating lots of the original old mining era history. Comfy bed, lovely light bright clean room.

Breakfast buffet was lacking content but OK. Pre-brewed coffee from thermos jugs ok but for such an incredible place we would expect a better al la carte breakfast.

Fiona at front desk was very friendly and helpful. Check in very smooth. Room was quaint and very comfortable. Bedding was first class. Bar services were very good as well as the appetizers.

The only thing I'd change is creating menus to compliment saloon/hotel. It was a very nice eclectic menu offering many upscale choices and "foodie" type options but I kind of expected more of a steak house concept that enhances the old Saloon history. Food was great however!

First impressions are everything. Front desk is five star. A hotel is nothing if the staff isn’t cheerful and we were treated very well by all, including the restaurant & bar. Really nice job renovating. Such detail. A real time capsule. We stayed in a room above the kitchen fan and didn’t care! It eventually stopped anyway.

The Holbrooke Hotel is the prettiest vintage hotel we’ve stayed in! From the check-in area, dining room, bar, downstairs saloon, patio, it looks both modern and historic at the same time. Our room was spacious and air conditioned. There wasn’t a TV, but that was ok with us. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant, so I can’t comment on the food. The hotel is well located on Main Street, but was not noisy. Parking is in the back.

It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room, but other than that everything was great!
