Fabulous secluded place to stay with easy access to the lakes and surrounding areas. Very attentive hosts with solid knowledge of the area, more than willing to advise on what to do if you need it. We recommend having breakfast as you will not be disappointed at the selection and quality available to you, all of which is beautifully presented. Hosts also catered for coeliac with various gluten free options. Watching the birds through the windows of the dining room was a real pleasure, a fantastic way to see so many British birds in one place. Room comfortable with everything you need

The location is tranquil and quiet yet close enough to other towns and villages. The hosts are kind, informative, helpful and have a real passion for the environment. They have knowledge of walks and hikes, plus maps you can borrow. The food was truly delicious and set you up for the whole day. The wildlife around the property is something we could watch all day.
Whilst it's great to go off grid for a few days, beware that depending on weather and what phone service you have, little or no signal can be had whilst in and around the property. There is wifi though. It wasn't an issue for me, but just being honest.

I enjoyed every minute of my stay at Lowthwaite. A beautiful quiet haven with a big garden, which is generously available to guests for their relaxation and enjoyment. All the rooms are beautifully furnished with wood from Tanzania where Jim and Tine used to live. Jim and Tine are delightful, caring, interesting and experienced hosts. Their breakfast offering is the most delicious and generous I have experienced as a vegetarian, with the option of a very early take away breakfast for sunrise starts. Definitely recommend it.

A quiet quaint B&B in the country side, yet only a few minutes drive from multiple cute country pubs/restaurants and Ullswater lake. Jim and Tine were so kind and welcoming, the cooked breakfasts were cafe quality, and fresh muffins were provided each day. Jim offered lots of advice on hikes and we did a beautiful waterfall loop hike directly from the property. With plenty more hikes in the area. The room was lovely and local Lake District toiletries were amazing.

The location is beautiful, tucked away in the hills. I loved watching the birds come to feed while having breakfast, all cooked fresh with locally sourced sausages. Jim and his wife were lovely hosts and very knowledgeable about the area, and there was a lovely, warm, and homely feel about the room.
I had asked for the room to be made up as a king-size bed, even though it was just me; I wanted the space and comfort after being in a tiny single bed sharing a room with friends for the previous few nights. However, they had only put a single duvet on the bed, which defeated the purpose of having it made as a king-size.

Beautiful B&B in a very quiet location off the beaten track. We stayed in the Garden room on the ground floor, which was very nicely presented, clean with comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom including shower and bath. The room looked out of a secluded private garden area where we saw lots of bird life. Breakfast options were numerous and included home made bread and preserves, home made muffins and the best sausages we’ve ever had. Jim & Trine are excellent hosts, interested and very informative about the surrounding areas, places for dinner etc without being intrusive. We would definitely recommend and hope to return again in the future.

Love the homemade cooking The history of the place , location info The furniture Location
Although the meet and greet was great . I personally didn’t like it in my room .. I felt my privately invaded and was too long After a long day at work then the drive .. I just wanted to relax and shower Didn’t like the size of the tv and the signal was very poor .. after a long walk in the mountain we couldn’t enjoy a bit of tv .. the idea of fresh milk is great but when guests wake up they don’t want to get dress to go down to get it .. for the cost of a small camping fridge and provide a small container of milk in the room would be idea The bath needs the wall repaint And we had a double bed but single duvet it’s hard to get intimate so please get some double duvet And we didn’t get the pack lunch we asked for ..

Great B&B in a nice setting, breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. There was the option to have pack lunches for your daily activities, which we had one day and it was nice. Service was excellent and nice to watch the birds feeding through the window during breakfast. Jim was also incredibly helpful in recommending local walks, providing maps and suggesting further activities. Rooms were nice and comfortable, maybe a double duvet would have been better as we had two singles pushed together. However, it was still very comfortable with a good variety of drinks in the room too. Location is great with walks from the doorstep, plenty of nice restaurants nearby to try but you will need to drive, which means one person will be on driving duties if you want a drink. 1863 was excellent if you want a special treat and nice meal, amazing food.

Loved the location, so quiet and peaceful. The hosts were friendly and helpful as soon as we arrived. Perfect location for Ullswater if you didnt want to stay in the busy parts. Breakfast was amazing. Great value for money.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact our bedroom opened straight into the dining room so you could hear people having breakfast. And you couldn't lock the door from the inside.

I enjoyed a wonderful one night stay. The accommodation was spacious, clean and extremely comfortable and quiet. I even spotted a deer crossing the lane when I looked out in the early morning! Exceptionally quiet location without any passing traffic overnight. I would highly recommended staying here. The hosts were kind and helpful. The breakfast was nutritious, copious and delicious. You will not regret booking a room here.
