Threkald is a great location for exploring the northern lakes. Parking was easy and the addition of 2 electric car charging points was a bonus. Check in was straight forward and the staff were friendly and attentive. Food was to a high standard and reasonable priced. The room was well appointed with a big comfortable bed and a fantastic view. Lovely bathroom and shower. Will definitely be returning in the future.

The pub gets busy, so best to book a table early to avoid disappointment. This also means that there we could hear the people downstairs - but it wasn’t offensive just conversations. To enjoy the view we had to manually fold up the blind - not really an issue, more of a first world problem. The Pub is on the main bus route, so the passengers on the upper deck can see into the room and bathroom.

Loved the cozy pub vibes. We got a suite and it was spacious and comfortable. Lovely staff. Great location. Newly refurbed bathroom was lovely too.

Our suite was above the entrance to the pub and having had a long day walking we wanted an early night and I hadn’t considered when booking that we were staying above a pub and there May be noise (silly me). And yes there was quite a bit of noise but it was a Saturday night and was quiet by about 11 so I can’t complain. Other minor issue was the bathroom itself was a good size but the shower cubicle felt really small. Me and my boyfriend are both fairly small people so no issues but anyone larger than us I think might’ve had a problem getting in and shutting the door.

Decent stay. The place has some very quaint features to it. The room was small and above the pub-rear which created a lot of noise from the courtyard- mostly from staff. And noise from the pub below of course. However- it's a pub and so you expect this and for thr most part it's a nice part of staying in a pub. The evening noise stopped quickly after 11pm. The bed wasn't actually all that comfortable but the place was spotless. The room had great tea, coffee and biscuits etc.. The shower was lovely and the staff were always friendly. It's a superb spot for exploring the local fells without any of the noise and bustle of Keswick. The bus to and from Keswich/Penrith passes right by the pub front door. There's also a nice beer garden. It's a decent/solid stay but also a high nightly rate. The breakfast was good. The eggs were great. Proper eggs that taste like eggs (not battery hen stuff). The coffee, however, was very poor. The guys urgently need to test their coffee on a proper coffee drinker (not someone who thinks instant coffee is okay).

Beautiful location with stunning views. The staff were fantastic, made us feel so welcome. Fabulous food available throughout the day (I would recommended booking a table to avoid disappointment) plenty of choice for both breakfast and evening meals. Our room was in the salutation accommodation. It was a lovely size with plenty of space. Easily accessible to Keswick by bus if you don’t want to drive, with the bus stop right outside the Carpark of the Horse and Farrier. Plenty of walking locations if that’s what you are looking for, the Threlkeld Rail Trail walk to Keswick only a short distance away.

I wouldn’t say we didn’t like it however the bathroom is on the small size but liveable for a few days stay

Very warm and cosy room, with lovely modern decor. Having booked the cheapest option through Booking.com as I only required one nights stay, I didn’t realise I’d booked a dog friendly room in The Salutation Inn. Being a dog friendly room did mean there was inevitably some dog hair in the room. Unfortunately the bed wasn’t very comfortable either. Regardless of this I had a very pleasant stay. The staff at The Horse & Farrier Inn were lovely and the evening meal was delicious. With breakfast included it was well worth the price and I would definitely return, booking a non dog friendly room.

Visited for valentines weekend, food was exceptional (the lamb and duck specials were Devine), service was excellent and nothing was too much! Room on the smaller side but plenty for us and cosy, great heating and nice and warm in the dining room and bedroom on a cold weekend. Breakfast very delicious and allowed order modifications. Also popped to the salutation inn across the road, cosy spot for a drink and while we didn’t eat them the pizzas looked great. A perfect base for exploring the northern and western lakes

The room could do with a lick of paint to freshen up, but cost and clean nonetheless (and we did visit in the off peak season where that might not have been the main priority- we were very thrilled with the heating especially given how much it costs now!)

The room was clean and the bathroom looked lovely. The pub served excellent food and drink. The staff were extremely accommodating when we explained we wanted to nip out for sunrise! (The building wouldn’t be unlocked until after 7). The breakfast was delicious and was free in the cost of the room (already a great price!).

The room smelled of bleach on entry, we opened the bedroom window which fixed it. We tried for a small nap before we went out for evening drinks but there were people in a work space outside our bedroom window swearing heavily to each other - maybe contractors? They seemed to be working and not drinkers. They were gone soon enough but we ended up closing the window. We weren’t bothered enough to say anything and it hasn’t affected our opinion of the stay. I would request next time though ventilation after cleaning and a quieter room.

Room was very comfortable and cosy and we appreciated the dog bowls in our room. The food and service at the Horse & Farrier was exceptional and we ate there every night. I would recommend reserving a table in advance as it’s very popular (especially if you have a dog as they’re not able to use all areas of the pub). We didn’t realise our breakfast was included which was a massive bonus as it was amazing! Thank you for a lovely stay and making us feel so welcome :)

We stayed at the Salutation Inn with our dog but we didn’t realise we needed to check in at the Horse & Farrier who manage all the accommodation. This wasn’t a problem as the properties are only about 50m apart.

The inn is ideally located in a small village of Threlkeld, which is a stone’s throw from Keswick. The backdrop of the northern fell of Blencathra adds to an atmosphere of other worldly. The inn is a classic with lower ceilings, beams, thick walls and warmth from the burning logs in the fireplace. The space is one thing, but it is the people who make it and the staff of the inn do so in a kind Cumbrian way; attentive, efficient and knowledgeable. Our room suited us perfectly with a shower en-suite that worked well. We enjoyed most of our meals at the inn. We ate breakfast there on each of the three mornings we stayed and we had choices to meet all our needs. We also ate our evening meals with two of them close to the roaring fireplace. As a proper pub, there were a range of local ales that more than satisfied. we really were looked after on all fronts. The inn is located away from the main road to Keswick, and there is ample parking for patrons.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful, they made our stay great. The breakfast was also good with a selection of cereal/yoghurt and mini pastries on offer as well as hot breakfast too. The room was small but comfy and all you need for a few nights. Amazing location at the foot of Blencathra, ideal for exploring the lakes.

The extractor fan in the bathroom leaked/dripped quite a lot making the bathroom floor wet but this didn't affect our stay! Bathroom was slightly small but for the price we still thought our stay was excellent value for money.
