Wonderful location and view. We had a room with the lake view and a four poster bed. The price paid for the room and breakfast was reasonable. The price for dinner and wine was quite steep and maybe this is the hotels compensation for the room rate. Saying this, the quality of the food was excellent and we very much enjoyed the two dinners and breakfasts we had. Staff were friendly and professional. My wife walked the entire circumference of the lake one morning and it is further than you may imagine.

The cost of the wine was steep a GBP13-15 retail wine is 50 in the restaurant. Dinner for two each evenings was ~GBP130 The bathroom was clean and functional but the shower head could have done with descaling to contain the spread.

It was as good as we hoped it would be based on all of the reviews. The lake view is truly beautiful, the grounds are well maintained and there are opportunities for walking in the countryside at the back of the hotel if the 12 miles round the lake on tarmac doesn’t appeal.

Some already high dinner menu prices had been increased above those on the website and the menu choices could do with being broadened. The food quality and presentation could not be faulted though.

Room very comfortable with amazing view of the lake. WiFi was a bit hit and miss. Breakfast was excellent. Evening meals a bit limited, we understood the pub would also serve food but when we arrived we were told they no longer did this which meant we had no choice but to eat in the restaurant with only a choice of the same 6 main courses. Also we hoped to walk round the lake but found parts of it closed off due to the clear up of Storm Darragh which is still taking place and will probably take most of the year. There were still some lovely walks but would have been nice to have been told this prior to visiting. We still had a lovely time staying here.

There is nothing to dislike about this hotel. You have to experience it for yourself to see how amazing it is. The views are breathtaking, and we had a lake view from our bedroom window. We stayed for a week and could not fault this in any way. Food is top notch, there is a spa on site and a clay pigeon shooting range also. This is not a noisy hotel by anymeans and we had an extremely quiet and relaxing holiday which is what we wanted. Cleaners knocked every single day to see if we needed anything. Bed was huge, we had a bath and a shower. Lots of different drinks, teas, coffees, herbal drinks, and luxury hot chocolate. Bed was super comfy.

Absolutely nothing that we didn't like..

The location is great. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful.

We’ve been many times and felt this time the dinner menu wasn’t as good as previously. Being vegetarian and staying a few nights it was limited. We were able to order from the lunch menu but felt the food wasn’t as good as previously. However we did enjoy the breakfast menu.

Amazing location and view (if you pay and get a room overlooking the lake, which I would recommend). Nice tub, good bicycle storage. Dining room is set up well for viewing the lake. Dinner was suitably upscale with quality, nuanced food. Breakfast particularly nice with a course of fruit and croissants followed by your selection of a cooked breakfast. Staff was friendly.

This hotel is in an amazing place with a wonderful history and could be so much more. It desperately needs a refresh. Rooms are faded, bathrooms are old (guessing mid 90s.). The worst: we paid for a lake view room and it was baking hot - they really need air conditioning in those rooms. Spa is decent but feels old - again it needs a refresh. Staff is friendly but could be more professional. I would stay again because of the cool factor associated with the hotel and the loveliness of the location —but it could be a lot better.

The location was superb and the atmosphere convivial. There aren't many better views to be had when eating. The breakfasts were very good indeed. The dinner lamb dish was particularly good as was the salmon 'curry' dish. We liked the style of the hotel as it was very traditional in decor, style and feel (the Gents with the tiled wall and grand toilet furniture was quite historic as well). The employees were helpful and friendly. The grounds were well kept and nice to walk around and sit in and the bar terrace was very good as well with great views. The room tea facilities were good with plenty of choice. My wife particularly liked the deep bath in our room as many places have shower only these days. Plenty of hot water as well. For anyone planning walking activities this hotel is a good base.

I wouldn't say "didn't like" but being an old building some of the window fittings are harder to keep than newer ones and ours could have done with toothbrushing the joins between frames and glass and the brass lower window stay on one window was bent - heating with a blowlamp and squeezing with a clamp would have put it right (as well as a bit of cleaning with 'brasso'). But this is a minor point. Hot drinks seemed to have a slight 'Milton's Fluid' tang to them which tainted cups of tea somewhat - we think that it was the water treatment. It didn't appear to be noticeable in coffee or hot chocolate, though.

We stayed a few nights in a „Premuim Lakeview Room“. The view was spectacular and we enjoyed a few “concerts” by birds sitting on the railing of our balcony. The room was clean and big; the bed very comfy (the staff kindly added another topper on request). The breakfast was very good; a lot of options to choose from (some more healthy than others ;-)…) . The hotel is older and, yes, there are creaky stairs and chipped edges but that just added to the charm of it. The spa is very small (England ist generally not known for its spas); but the massages were brilliant. The drive to get to the Snowdonia main attractions ist about 1 to 1 1/2 hours - the drive itself through beautiful landscape, far from the busy tourist spots.

Just little things that I would improve: Like a flexible shower head that can be adjusted to one’s height/need. Or a telly that allows you to watch your Netflix or other streaming services.

The view was lovely and the breakfast really good and service was very prompt. The dog was welcomed.

The evening meal was lovely but the dish we had - the Roasted cauliflower did not match the description on the menu and no explanation was given for this. There was no wilted spinach or roasted chick peas, but there was asparagus, broccoli, a carrot, baby corn and a spring onion. The taste was lovely and we said to the waitress that we weren't complaining but just wondered why what appeared was quite different - this could have been a problem for someone with allergies. Similarly - in my experience Eggs Royale uses poached eggs, not scrambled.

Lovely room and view - above the spa so incredibly hot on a warm day. Huge and comfy bed. It was my birthday and they wrote me a card which was a really nice touch. Would highly recommend this amazing historic hotel.

There was lots of warning about booking the spa in advance, we didn't know our arrival time so didnt want to book for that day and the following day was completely fully booked. It would be nice if the hotel could reserve some spots for hotels guests rather than day visitors which most people seemed to be - at least until the guests have checked in - or perhaps keep it open for an extra couple of hours (til 9pm for guests only) to use the spa would have been the cherry on top of the stay for us. It looked lovely.
