Beautiful, modern guesthouse steps away from the Toya lake. The front of the guesthouse is a cafe, which closes at 3pm. The guesthouse has its own private, free parking at the side of the building. It is an easy 5 minutes' walk from the bus terminal. There is a common area and sauna on the first floor, as well as a toilet and two shower rooms. The dormitories and private rooms are on the second floor. This is a great place to stay if you're on a budget or don't want to pay for an onsen hotel you won't enjoy. Plus, it is really cozy and can accommodate max 12 people at the same time. Would stay again.

Eating out at night in an onsen resort can be difficult as most visitors will have dinner at their hotel, so options can be limited. If you are not vegetarian, I recommend the izakaya, Ippei, a 10 minute walk from The Toya.

It is almost fully self-serviced, with a short introduction at the beginning. Quite tiny, extremely thin walls but clean and well-thought space usage. Common bathroom. The location is great, close to the lake, and you can go and see it any time (mornings, evening fireworks, and such). Maybe it is the onsen town, but I found it pretty pricey comparing to other hotels with breakfast and bigger rooms with a separate bathroom.

I think it would be great to have an electric kettle (and some mugs?) in the dining area.

Everything about the toya was great. I cannot fault it. I hope i will be returning one day soon. The food downstairs is excellent as well.

There were no terrible problems just one thing i thought would be nice to know but understand the necessity and reason for it. Knowing in advance that our room specifically was the fire escape meaning it wasnt lockable would be nice. And a more secure lockbox / safe would be great as well. But other than this i had an excellent time. No other gripes.

It's a very clean and modern place, perfect if you don't want to go in the fancy and pricy hotels in Toyako Onsen. The owner is really friendly and even if you don't speak Japanese, you can still figure it out easily at this place. There's a restaurant where you can eat on the 1st floor on you order on a machine. Very practical.

I would suggest 2 things for improvement that would make that place even better : -softer pillows (they were a bit hard, but I was still able to sleep) -more heating in the communal areas. You can control the heating in your room, but not in the toilets and they were a bit cold during the night (went there in early November) I still recommend this place, I think it's very good!

This is a clean, well-run guesthouse with friendly staff and a café where you order on a machine - the café doesn't take cash but did accept my foreign card with no issues. This guesthouse is a great budget option compared to the spa hotels in Toyako Onsen. There's a list in the café of the onsens in the town that you can visit with details like prices and opening times. The staff were very kind and helpful.

This was the 2nd hostel I stayed in while I traveled through Japan for the first time. Honestly loved the temporary escape from the city scene. Hostel is very clean and around the corner from the bus station to get you to and from the JR station. Bedroom had a window you could prop open, a comfy mattress, privacy curtains, and ac/heat if needed. The hostel is located right across the street from Lake Toya. The national park welcome center is also located a street away behind the hostel. Hostel is located on a strip where you'll find different shops including restaurants and convenience stores. Sauna inside the hostel, also very clean. Showers were all clean and spacious with shelves and hooks to easily change clothes. The locker room is coed but it's primarily used to store your belongings, there are 3 sinks with a stool where you can take your time to dry your hair and the hostel provides basic skin care products if you need them. Hostel is located inside the restaurant/coffee shop, you'll have direct access to order food or purchase soft drinks, coffee, or beer. I don't speak Japanese and the hosts don't speak English, but handy Google translate was how we communicated and the hosts were awesome about it.

Not cons but there are things to be aware of as they opened a few months ago and therefore still working out the kinks. There really isn't a lounge area, there's a space with patio chairs that could suffice. You can also use a table in the restaurant area when there's availability. You don't have access to a fridge, but if you ask they are more than happy to store your food in the restaurant fridge for you. It's unclear about the ability to easily leave and come back to the hostel late at night. It's a restaurant so they close up shop, there is no separate entrance/exit for hostel guests. It's a national park, I had no intention to leave the premises during late hours. However, if your movement is different, ask the host about it in advance.

The staff are super friendly. The hostel is a short walk from the bus terminal, most of the restaurants and the lake. The room i booked is female only, but the toilet, bathroom and washing station are shared by everyone. The room is spacious and there is enough space for lugguages. The space is clean and they also provide free towels. The restaurant is located at the entrance of the hostel. The soup curry ia pretty good.

No coin laundry with dryer but the nearest coin laundry is 12 min away.

Was a nice quiet hostel by Lake Toya and only a minute walk to the village and lakefront. I went when it was quiet in the town so I had a whole room to myself. There’s also a restaurant on the bottom floor which is open until late and the staff are very friendly had a nice long conversation with them and felt very welcomed! Good facilities too: shower, bath, fridge and sauna!

The bed was just a little too small although I am quite tall (over 6 feet) so it shouldn’t be an issue for most.

The manager Makoto-san was very friendly and accommodated our meal requests. The sauna is incredible and the location is super close to the lake.

Mattresses are very thin. Very steep staircase so need to be physically strong and able to get up and down the stairs.

Location was beautiful, staff were friendly and the food was glorious. I got a meal package and the breakfast onigiri were really substantial, plus the dinner was amazing (I'll be dreaming about the tonkatsu curry for months to come!) Everything was perfect, I really hope I can go back sometime.
