Unique hotel with books that you can borrow to your room (one book per time). Once in the room, there's an LED lamp besides a single-sized sofa and a leg rest so that you can read your book under that light, thus 'lamp, light, books'. Also, I noticed that the bathroom is apparently actually 'built', and not just a 'unit bath' that is ubiquitous across business hotels in Japan. Not that unit baths are bad, but a conventionally built bathroom is a welcome change of atmosphere. They also gave us free drinks at the bar next to the reception, in the form of a drink ticket for two. While this might not sound special, because most hotels have coffee machines for guests to use for free, the drink ticket can be exchanged for 'manual' drinks like hand-drip coffee using beans from Fuglen Coffee Roaster, for example. So it wasn't /just/ any drinks.

Nothing really

A homely hotel. A place that gives me a homely feel. Note: I stayed at the largest room with a balcony at the highest floor. So, my comment may be different from those who stay in smaller rooms at lower floors.

I stayed in the largest room with a balcony at the highest floor. The room is nice and the view is open with natural lighting. However, the downside, which is not the fault of the hotel, is that the room is east facing. So, the room is bright early in the morning right after sunrise. If you are a morning person, maybe it is ok. If you are not an early morning riser, make sure you wear eyemasks for sleeping. The room gets fairly warm in the morning too, given the sunshine. So, if you have the heat on, then leave the balcony door slightly opened before sleep so that you get fresh air in during morning, or you would get awakened because of increased temperature in the room.

Location was great; a 15 minute walk from Nagoya station and 5 minutes from a local underground station. It’s off the main road opposite a nice park and there is a good size 7-11 just across the main road. Our moderate twin room was on the 12th floor with a balcony overlooking the park. It was nice to be able to open the door and let in fresh air. The room was small but well set out and very clean; it suited us just fine. The bed was very comfortable and nice pillows. There were 2 USB A ports for charging and plenty of power outlets. Fabulous shower. The foyer area has a cafe (nice coffee and a delicious iced orange tea) and plenty of books you can borrow to read. Most are Japanese but there is a section of English books available. The laundry room has 2 washer/dryers and costs 500¥ for a load of washing. Very handy. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. We loved our stay here and would definitely stay again when visiting Nagoya.

These aren’t big things and they didn’t detract from our stay but an extra pillow would have been nice and some more hanging space in the bathroom. There was a kettle but no teabags in the room.

We loved everything about this place. It was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The vibe from the 24 hour cafe and bookshop/library is wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable, with a nice view overlooking the park. They offer a free welcome drink, nice amenities, and they were also happy to offer complementary luggage storage after check-out.

I really didn't feel like I was missing a thing. There was a tiny bit of awkwardness with the bed setup— there was only a narrow space between the foot of the bed and the wall, so I had to walk sideways to get to my side of the bed. Not a big deal, but for a larger person or one with limited mobility it could be more troublesome. I also would have loved some gluten-free and vegetarian food options in the coffee shop, but I don't really expect that in Japan.

Very comfortable and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Staff assisted us with transferring our luggage to the next hotel. The location was good, only 15 min walk from Nagoya station. Close to convenience stores, a park across the road and some great eats nearby (strongly recommended the hungry moose - less than 5 minute walk away). The rooms are quite small. Which is pretty normal for Japan, but I think this was the smallest of all places we stayed. Still very comfortable. LOADS of books and a great little coffee shop downstairs in the hotel. Including English books.

The temperature in reception always felt very high, so we couldn’t linger there for very long without feeling a bit too hot. Otherwise everything was great!

For an affordable hotel, Lamp Light Books Hotel delivered such a great value. The room size was sufficient and the mattress was comfortable. The shower was modestly-sized but they had a premium brand shower head which I thoroughly enjoyed. True to its name, there are several books available to read in the lobby or take to your room. And lastly, probably my most favorite of all, was the Fuglen coffee at the hotel's cafe! They served top-notch coffee (as expected of Fuglen) and some delicious sliders. Location is good as it's right next to a small park and just a few minutes walk to the nearest metro.

I wish there more pillows. I only had 1 in my room and although it was soft, it was honestly pretty flat. Also more options to the sliders would be nice.

The theme of a books hotel is special and nice. The whole hosting agenda encurages and accommodates reading, which is lovely. The staff is attentive and warm. A beautiful park in front of the hotel, making walking around the area nicer. The hotel location is excellent, 3 minutes away from Fushima Station, close to multiple conbenient stores and restaurants. The laundry room downstairs is useful.

The room was tiny, breakfast is minimal, no coffee/ tea unless buying them in the cafeteria. Personally, I didn't like the Jazz music played in all public areas.

Loved the location, the amenities, and the helpful staff. Laundry worked like a charm as long as you don’t make the load too big. We missed the drinks because we were so tired after check in but think that’s a lovely touch. The view from the 9th floor is nice. Everything is clean.

The moderate room isn’t really an upgrade because the extra square footage isn’t usable. The configuration is cramped compared to the standard room. We had two moderates and one standard and all agreed that the standard was the nicer room. The window coverings are not room darkening so be prepared for the sun to wake you at 5 if you have a balcony room. The duvets are extra warm which makes it tricky to control temps in the summer. These are small critiques that prevent it from being perfect but they are very small. It was an exceptional stay.

Very nice hotel. It was the first hotel room in Japan that had decent lighting options (the name of this hotel is perfectly chosen). Also the walls were thicker than usually in Japanese Hotels, so that I could sleep without earplugs. Everything inside the room was carefully placed and it was very relaxing to sit on the little "couch". Even if the room was small, they were enough space for all my luggage to be placed in a tidy maner. The shower was great, too! The café/lounge area between the bookshelves was very cozy. The free welcome drink to try that area out was a nice touch. The staff was young and friendly. :)

The breakfast-burgers were sometimes not heated up properly.

We stayed just one night at LAMP LIGHT BOOKS HOTEL Nagoya to rest before our Ghibli Park visit, and it was absolutely worth it! The hotel is beautifully designed, calm, and perfect for book lovers. We were especially charmed by the book-themed concept, it made the stay feel thoughtful and inspiring. I’m even more motivated now to improve my Japanese so I can enjoy some of the books next time! We were able to walk to almost everywhere we wanted to see in the city from the hotel. Maybe it's because we love walking, but still, the location is truly great!

Nothing we dislike. Our only regret is staying just one night. Nothing more to add, it was that good.
