This was the best place we stayed at during our trip! The house was super cozy, futon were fresh and comfortable for sleeping, and I really appreciated and enjoyed the ofuro! It truly felt like home! Place is pretty close to the transit station, we managed to walk there from the station when we arrived without too much fuss, but we also did not have a lot of luggage. The host was amazing and very helpful, gave us all the tips on things to do and places to eat, and even gave us a ride to the station when we checked out :) We would definitely stay there again should we find ourselves in Nikko.

The guy who manages the guesthouse is the nicest, friendliest, most helpful person ever. He really made our stay feel so warm and homely even though it was winter. They can receive luggage which is pretty amazing and we needed to send luggage to the airport and he spent a lot of effort working out how we could do it. It really made me feel at ease the amount of help and attention he gave. He sat down and helped us work out which hikes to do and which bus to take. He had bus maps and hike maps, we were time poor so we arrived with little planning and he helped us work out how to do the things we wanted to do. The room itself was incredibly clean and tidy, I felt absolutely comfortable there, he lives right next door so if you need anything you can ring a bell and he will come out and answer your questions. He also has a laundry service where he will wash dry and fold a certain amount of laundry - either free if you stay for 3 days or more or 1k yen. You can just feel the amount of effort and thought they put into the operation. I really want to come back one day, it was such a highlight of our trip.

Simple, spacious and clean accommodation. It's like crashing at a friend's, as the place is decorated to the host's taste and the opposite of impersonal. Friendly hosts. Very quiet. We stayed in the older part of the guesthouse and had two WC and two showers at our disposal (on the other hand we had no door separating us from the entrance, shared with the owner but no big issue, really, as they are super quiet).
There are no kitchen facilities, only a microwave, a fridge and some dishware and cutlery. No washing basin nor stove. One of the bedrooms has no opening on the outside, but does get light and air from an opening on the living room.

By now you would've read many reviews about this guesthouse and we can confirm that this place is truly outstanding!!! Host hospitality +10!!! It's located just a short 10 minute walk from Nikko station. Our Guest House was behind the reception area and had 2 bedrooms and 2 washrooms. It also came with a refrigerator, microwave and small oven. Both bedrooms had very comfortable beds and pillows. Aside from the accommodation which was AMAZING, The host really makes this place unique. He allowed us to leave our luggage before we were able to check in so that we can explore the city. He also gave us a map with a small introduction of places to see and time schedules. And finally, when it was time to check out, he graciously gave us a ride to the Nico train station. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse!

Stay Nikko Guesthouse is amazing. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful, explaining clearly how everything works and even took time to help us plan where to visit. The amenities we great and modern and very clean, and included a microwave and washer dryer. They even wash your dishes when you are out exploring! The beds were traditional futon very very comfortable and the neighbourhood is quiet giving us a perfect night's rest. The Guesthouse is situated along the river which is great for a morning walk and the Tobu Nikko station is close enough not to need a tax (10 mins walk)i but far enough to be away from the crowds. The perfect getaway. Thank you for being so welcoming.

We love this cozy authentic Japanese House (the questhouse part). Very comfortable, super clean, modern facilities, with attention to detail that made us feel homey. The area is quiet with beautiful view of the river in front, but very close to the main area (train station, cafes, family mart). Kenji-san the owner very friendly and helpful. Gave us map & explaining recommended area, transportation and recommended place to eat. He also allowed us to keep our luggage after check out time. Arigatogozaimasu Kenji-san🙏🏼
Just need a little table near the microwave to put our food & plates/dishes when preparing it for microwave.

We had a truly wonderful stay. The host was incredibly friendly and welcoming—he greeted us with a big smile and such a positive attitude. He explained everything about the area in great detail and gave us a list of all the must-visit places. The house itself was very clean, cozy, and had all the amenities needed for a comfortable vacation. On top of that, it felt very authentic to the region, which made the experience even more special. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Nikko!
Everything was perfect

We really enjoyed staying at Stay Nikko Guesthouse. Upon arrival we were very warmly greeted by Ken-san and Pi-san. They both went out of their way to make us feel welcome, helped us understand local recommended spots and even helped us with our laundry. On our way out, since I had some heavy luggage, he even drove me to the train station. Honestly, they made the stay special for us and we really appreciate their hospitality. Would highly recommend staying at their place!

As many reviewers have already stated, the host Kenji-san is extremely friendly. He gave us very useful tips for sightseeing and moving around. The location was great, the railway station was within 10-min walk and all the restaurants, cafes, bus stops and Family Mart and the World Heritage site nearby. There is a great supermarket nearby the station as well. The villa had everything we needed, everything was very clean and we slept well in our beds. Teenagers liked their space ‘upstairs’.

We loved the Nikko Guesthouse. Plenty of room for sleeping for 4 adults in the upstairs bedroom. We had breakfast and coffee in the kitchen and sitting area in the morning. My family said they want to come back, they really loved it and they like coming to Nikko.
This is my issue only. Not my families. Because I'm an older guy I needed to get up, go down the stairs to use the bathroom during the night. It was just fine, but normally the bathroom is on the same floor as the bedroom. Not really an issue at all.
