This is our second stay at this hotel. No point really looking elsewhere for our budget. Perfect location near Piazza Maggiore and the centre of Bologna's tourist area. Restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance and the hotel is in a quiet location.

Great little boutique hotel and breakfast was very good!

Art Hotel Commercianti is a charming exceptionally well presented boutique hotel located right next to the Basilica di San Petronio, just steps from Piazza Maggiore. Housed in a historic medieval building, it blends elegant, character-filled interiors with modern comforts. It is very central yet a quiet location. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. It’s an ideal stay for those seeking a mix of history, style, and warm hospitality right in the heart of the city. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The lift was broken day for a day and we had to use the stairs. Fortunately we were on the first floor.

Location was great .. minutes away from the interesting places in Bologna ,very close to many shops and restaurants. Right in the heart of the city . The art in the hotel is very pretty and colorful and certainly a nice change from other hotels.

It’s kind of old and squeaky although bathroom is updated . Room was small. Elevator was horrible and scary kept jiggling and making noises , was stuck the next morning we were there , it really needs updating. We were on the third and last floor of the hotel , we had to use the stairs most of the time , the elevator was very slow going up and down. We had to climb 4 flights of stairs after breakfast which was on -1 . Breakfast was OK, nothing special. Could be much better for a four star hotel in Italy .

The history, provenance, and location of the hotel were great. The rooms were extremely individual, which was really special. The breakfast was varied and the breakfast & housekeeping staff were warm and friendly.

We stayed 5 nights and we both wished that the reception team had adopted the warm, friendly, and helpful nature that the breakfast and housekeeping staff had. They didn't seem genuine, and we felt we had to say hello each morning it was never offered to us. Check-in and check out were perfunctory, and we were told about breakfast times, etc, but not much effort made to welcome us. This is a 4-star hotel In our guest book, we were told that the reception staff could print off documents. When we asked, I'd that could be done, it felt like an imposition. This attitude spoilt the experience of our stay as this is the first and last contact you have with a hotel.

This hotel is located in the very center of Bologna - a perfect place for exploring the city. If you are driving your own vehicle be sure to get, and follow, the hotel instructions as you will be driving in the ZTL and through a pedestrian area. It may sound a little daunting at first, but we actually found it easy to do. Parking is available at the hotel for an additional fee. Being able to walk out the door and be right in Piazza Maggiore was a real benefit for us, as we had limited time to explore the city. The staff were very helpful, and called several restaurants for us to finally find one that had space for a last minute reservation. Also, the breakfast was great - lots of variety and well stocked. Room was comfortable, with interesting decor and nice bed. All in all it was an excellent choice!

We were ìn an apartment, a short distance from the hotel. The apartment was very spacious and had everything you would need for a short or long stay. The breakfast was in the hotel itself and had a great selection as part of the inclusive continental breakfast, including gluten free and dairy free options. I would definitely stay here again if going to Bologna. It is very close to Piazza Maggiore, so it is really close to all the main sites of Bologna. The staff were all really friendly and helpful too.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

The location, right in the heart of the city, was quite tricky to find on your own in a rental car as it involves going into a pedestrian area and GPS was not so accurate. The hotel reception talked us to a point and then came to guide us personally. We managed to obtain a secure park in the hotel for our stay - book early. A good breakfast selection was provided in the dining room. With so many restaurants in Bologna one was spoilt for choice for lunch and dinner. The room was quite small, as we expect in the middle of an historic town, but well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The breakfast selection was amazing! The overall quality of the hotel was great. The staff were friendly and very helpful. As first time visitors to Bologna, the location could not have been more perfect! It is centrally located to many of the "must sees" in the historical areas of the city which is fantastic if you're not into renting a car or relying on public transportation to get around.

The a/c in the room did not work very well, leaving the room warm and a bit humid. When we opened the window in hopes of cooling down, there was loud music from a celebration in the piazza right up until midnight.

We loved the location right off of Piazza Maggiore. It was a convenient spot to walk and explore. The breakfast was an expansive layout of food with lots to choose from. I loved that you could place an order for whatever coffee drink you wanted and it was made for you right then. Excellent cappuccino as you would expect in Italy.

The only negative was when we came back in the middle of the afternoon for a break there was construction going on somewhere in a room near ours. It was loud and made it hard to relax. I realize that there is never a good time to do work in a hotel so it was just an annoyance and nothing to complain about as it was happening.

Excellent location, across the street from the Basilica. Nice buffet breakfast. Room pleasant, but not large. The balcony that was a selling point was really only useful for one night, because of the cool weather.

Some of the front-desk staff were friendly, while others were rather reserved -- helpful but not all that outgoing.
