Good location in the historic center of Braga. Very nice room, excellent breakfast. The historic building that it’s located in is awesome. Lovely spa and outdoor pools.

There is currently an issue about the hotel parking, due to construction on the square. So hotel customers are asked to park in a private lot somewhere nearby. Directions are given at the desk, but it was very confusing. We were unable to locate the parking. A suggestion would be for the hotel to provide valet parking until the construction zone is cleared up. We chose this hotel in part because parking was available, but it turned out to be quite an inconvenience.

The location and staff here are what standout and make this a fantastic place to stay. Staff were very helpful when we had questions, and went above and beyond (thank you David O.) when we ran into problems with our car rental. The location is in the middle of the most historic parts of Braga. Rooms are very clean, well-kept and nice enough, but the historical building itself is what makes the stay worth it. It was enjoyable wandering around the place and “discovering” this and that nook, corner or room as we stayed there.

The hotel is embedded with a church and was rebuilt upon a medieval hospital. Hence, it's like living in a monastery while walking in the wide area of corridor, courtyard, bar and restaurants. Besides, the backyard swimming pool looks fabulous. The excellent location allows an easy hangout around the beautiful downtown of Braga. The buffet breakfast is very good, but the exceptional is the internal restaurant with an upper level of classic Portuguese cuisines and reasonable price.

I couldn't complain any except that the entrance of hotel is not conspicuous.

The hotel is pretty and in a great location. The hotel has a historic wing and traditional hotel room wing. We stay in a typical hotel room. It was spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff attentive. Reception offered restaurant suggestions and secured a reservation on our behalf. The location is close to shopping and historic landmarks. Part of our party had a relaxing massage.

The parking is cumbersome. When we arrived, reception informed us we would need to get back in our cars and circle back to park behind the hotel. It was tricky. Pillows needed improvement and missed a thin duvet for the bed.

This hotel is so unassuming when you first arrive and go through that doors. The reception/ restaurant area was once a monastery and it is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are all spacious and modern and very quiet. There is a small playground for kids, apart from the outdoor pools (adults/kids). The one night we were there, we chose to have dinner at the hotel restaurant which was so well priced, yet fancy and so tasty. Our daughter was never an issue and welcomed everywhere. The breakfast also had a wide selection of french fruits, breads, ham, cheeses, juices and included a chef making omelettes and pancakes. With regards to location, the hotel could not be more central. Literally in the central piazza of Braga. Staff were super helpful in suggesting, best route to see see all attractions, We will most definitely be suggesting this hotel to friends and family and looking out for more Vila Gale hotels.

There is a new hotel being built behind the Vila Gale hotel. This is not something that the hotel can control, and the workers stopped working at around 630pm and started at 730am.

The location is great – in the very center of Braga and no more than a 15 minute walk to the train and bus stations. The old part of the building is interesting. My room was in the less interesting newer part, but was a good size with comfortable places to sit. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choices. The staff was generally friendly and helpful.

It didn't quite feel like a 4 star hotel. While it mostly looked quite clean, the carpet is in poor condition in some places and the window in my room was overdue for a cleaning. It would be good to have some way to get coffee or tea or at least hot water without having to order room service or request a nespresso machine and then pay 1 euro each for nespresso pods.

Good breakfast with wide selection. The quality of the coffee could be better.

The Temperature of the indoor pool. 28.5 is too cool for winter. If Portuguese law doesn’t allow it to be higher then it should be mentioned on the web site. The lay out of the bathroom ; there wasn’t enough privacy. Parking is tricky and the photo of the facade of the hotel is a little misleading in the photos.

It was really really good. Like the hotel itself is very beautiful, both exterior and interior design are stunning. It has very nice facilities, such as spa center and swimming pool. Everything in the room is also great, clean,new and spacious. The dinner in this hotel is beyond greatness, it's something that the language of English is too limited to send the best compliment. Hat off to the chef, waitors and waitresses. The food and drink is stunning, delicious. Everything is so fresh and so good. The service from waitresses and waitors are elite! Much appreciated.

I arranged a trip for 14 of our friends and this was one of my lodging choices. Staying in a converted monastery, was great. Rooms were large, well appointed, and classy. We dubbed our room the Arch Bishop estate and it was grand, including a huge living room. The building is large and easy to get lost in at first. Location is superb. One of the nights we were there, there was a concert in the attached cathedral which was beautiful.

The restaurant was mediocre. Probably the most marginal food we had in N. Portugal.

This property has been both a monastery and a hospital and now has been converted to a hotel. It has some old world charm to be sure, but our rooms could have been in any hotel in any city in the world. Granted, we stayed in a new added on section at the back of the hotel. The breakfast was fine, perfectly adequate, but nothing special. On the first day, the host of the breakfast room denied entry to one of our friends, stating that his room number only showed a party of one. Our friend was pretty good humored about it at first, but when his wife left her table and stepped in to confirm that they were indeed two, the staff person actually doubled down and told him that it was up to him to leave, go to the front desk and ask them to communicate back to her before he would be allowed to go in. Seriously? Another staff member finally intervened and apologized. Not a great start to the day. Everyine else we dealt with at the hotel was helpful and charming, as is usually the case in Portugal. There is free secure parking behind the hotel, but may or may not be available during busier times of the year.

Long winding corridors from the front desk to get to the elevator that led to our rooms. Our bathroom was strangely configured, with a counter in the middle, a shower on the left and toilet on the right. Only thin glass doors between the shower/toilet and the room, so very little privacy.
