Just wow! If you're interested in relaxing in the Portuguese countryside at a beautiful property with attentive and welcoming staff, wonderful food, a great selection of beverages, and beautifully presented interiors then Herdade da Matinha is for you. There are at least 3 pools accompanying each of the separate accommodation facilities. But from where we stayed (an ensuite bedroom in the renovated, "old house") we could only see our own house and its pool. Our room looked out onto fields of grazing sheep with the pool located a short wander to the rear. Similarly it was a very short walk through the gardens to the expansive dining and common area facilities. These were all decorated in a welcoming modern style with many artworks on display, vases of freshly cut roses from the garden, and an amazing collection of eclectic books and objects d'arte. The background music playing in the dining and common areas was always serene. I also loved that they have a sustainable philosophy; aiming to use most of their own garden produce or sourcing products locally. The owners also choose not to use pesticides - as a result you see frogs in the pond, lizards and various pollinators (birds, bees etc). Oh, and if you're wanting to do more than just laze by the pool, there are other activities on offer including horse riding, hiking, trips to the nearby beach, yoga and more. Fitting our relaxation focus, we each enjoyed a massage.

The Rose Club part (adults only) was very modern and luxurious, the main house was cosy and warm, like a family house. The surroundings lush and inviting to wander around. The staff is awesome. We felt so welcome. Especially Davide who was at reception and we communicated before arrival with, was a master of hospitality. Obrigado, Davide. The lady that runs the restaurant (forgot her name, so sorry) was always helpful and a pleasure to speak to, made things happen. So did the lady at the bar. And a special notice for Ruben, the waiter, a most courteous and intelligent young man. We had a few great conversations, my friend, and I hope everything works out for you… Remember to remain acting like a King to your little Princess! We’ll be going back for sure.

All was very nice, no downsides. Maybe the chairs on the terrace are a bit uncomfortable after a while, but we picked up cushions from one of the lounges and all was great again.

The staff was very friendly. Especially Marco at the reception made an impression with his positive attitude and his excellent service mindset. Personally, I found it nice that the level of English-speaking among the staff was low, as this added to the feeling of being off the main tourism track.

The quality of the 2.8 km dust road leading up to the property was poor. Having said that, it added to the rural feeling of the the property and being off the beaten track.

The Herdade is a incredible relaxed place. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The adults only pool area is great and our room was super nice and comfy. Dinner and lunch was always a pleasure and very good. Also shout out to the dutch bar woman who always took care of us.

There cold be a bit more staff in the restaurant. Then it would be easier to order. Also some more english knowledge would be helpful If one does not speak any portugese.

We drove in and it felt like oasis. Truly very relaxing place. Beautiful property. But what really struck me was was the love for dogs. We travel with 14 year old furry boy and we could not be more welcome. He was treated like human guest. walking around freely and enjoying the whole property with us. He made 2 amazing friends that are at the property. They followed Bentley all the way to our room. It was truly warmest welcome we ever received from all employees even from those 2 furry ones. Thank you. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO STAY AT THIS PLACE, STAY FOR LONGER THAN 2 NIGHTS!!!!!!!! you will drive out with sooo much positiveness.

Peaceful location. Lovely room and the bonus was interconnecting rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was clean.

Evening menu could be improved. Menu is unchanged for a week. Specials would be helpful as due to the hotel’s location it is much easier to eat at the hotel. Perhaps a room service menu as well.

The property was quite unique/quirky. The setting was stunning, nature at its very finest. the art work and ceramic/glass collections in the reception and other areas was beautiful. The food was very tasty. We had breakfast and evening meal, lovely quality food.

The only thing I would have added was a mattress topper to make the bed a little softer.

Amazing place, so green and peaceful..the pools are great, the staff super nice and helpful, breakfast is perfect with lots of variety and warm dishes as option, and dinner was very good too, everything tasted fresh and healthy (they grow their own veggies). We loved also the room decoration a lot!

Our stay was absolutely amazing. The entire place is built up so beautiful and with love. The rooms are amazing and clean. The common space are super cozy and are very inviting to rest. The staff was amazing and the food and breakfast in the restaurant too. The pool area also looked super nice even if we didn´t use it at it was a bit too cold to swim in November :) You can do nice hikes starting from the Country house. We just really enjoyed our stay!

Super attentive staff! The farm is beautiful and full of spots to relax or work. We went with our dog and she had the best time ever. Everyone was very accommodating. We loved the food both from breakfast and lunch.
