We stayed here on a long weekend away visiting steam railways in Dorset and the Devon. We spent one night at this classical railway hotel. The hotel has a huge car park. It serves excellent pub food and beer in the evening. The full English breakfast next morning set us up for our visit to Brixham the next day. Our Victorian-style bedroom was huge. The location is convenient for visiting Agatha Christie's Greenway NT property by car.

Shower could have been better - but I am fussy about such things. Also, the cubicle space seemed small compared to the total size of bedroom and bathroom. The only other disappointing thing concerned the location. Since the pandemic, (steam) trains no longer stop at Churston Ferrers railway station so the convenience of a day trip to say Dartmouth or Paignton has been lost (but through no fault of the owners).

Competent friendly check-in to a very large sensibly furnished room with giant, comfortable bed and large en-suite. Breakfast was freshly and well-cooked and nicely presented, on hot plates. Evening meal was well-presented and good quality, although pie crust could have been cooked a bit longer. Very convenient for frequent (no.12) buses; massive car park and beer garden adjoining P & D Steam Railway.

Rather a jaded building and approached by quite steep access roads with no pavements. Menu was very much "pub grub". Ony 1 real ale was available (2 other pumps not in use). One, obviously regular, member of staff frequently handled customers' dogs then glasses and plates without washing hands--yeuk!

This was a quick extension for a couple of days. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ate at the venue in the evenings and the food was at a much higher standard than you would expect. This could also be said of the breakfasts. A good choice, so much so that if we are down in the area again it will be our first choice. Great location as well, right next to the steam engine railway 😀

Absolutely nothing- given the price we paid it met and exceeded our expectations.

We stayed for a night to travel on The Train of Lights and our accommodation was right by the railway track and the bedroom that our son's stayed in was facing the track so they could watch the train pass through and hear it's whistle, which they loved. You could only hear the train whistle while the event is taking place, no traffic noise lovely and quiet, comfortable sleep. Mark who is the manager was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our room was very spacious, well presented and clean, Sunday Lunch was absolutely beautiful, big portions and very well priced, breakfast was also very nice indeed. Would definitely recommend.

Nothing, everything was great, very happy. The only thing we didn't like was that our stay wasn't longer.

Clean, comfortable, excellent restaurant and menu and super friendly and efficient staff.

It would be easy pick holes in this hotel as it’s a big old building that clearly needs a lot of maintenance and probably doesn’t have the financial backing of the well known and comparatively priced chains. However, where this hotel wins hands down is the staff, their attentive friendly service and their willingness to make your stay memorable, so that far outweighs any negatives.

The staff were excellent and made you so welcome. The manager, Mark , runs an excellent establishment. The breakfast was magnificent, and the food for evening menu was well presented and tasty and good value for money, with a good choice . A good stocked bar with excellent real ales.

The only thing that the company who own the pub could do to make it perfect is to give the property a bit of make over when it comes to things like renewing the stair carpet, or even giving it a industrial clean . The decor in the rooms, though far from dirty, in fact they were spotless, could do with a bit of painting and decorating throughout, as it’s a bit tired. This is no reflection on the manager , but a company issue. Having said all that, this would not stop me from staying there again as it was such a friendly place to stay .

Breakfast was plentiful - juices/pastries/cereals/toast etc first then a plated breakfast was cooked to order, which very tasty - great ingredients cooked well and served nicely. The room was comfortable and had enough power outlets for our device recharging needs - fresh towels - not the most modern, but an absolutely functional and clean bathroom - shower over the bath was good. Parking was easy and there was plenty of room. Location was perfect for Brixham Harbour and amenities, which was a great place to visit - just a short drive then the harbour car park was run by "RingGo" on a 'start/stop' basis using their phone app - or I think you can pay cash if you like. Great stay and would definitely consider returning in the future.

For me a few things could have been a little more modern EG USB sockets on the plugs/slightly larger screen TV/air conditioning or a fan in the room - but were that the case I'd imagine that the price would rise accordingly, so for the price we decided "it is what it is" - very comfortable and adequately furnished and perfectly placed (just out of town) for visiting the lovely harbour in Brixham.

Great room, great breakfast. Amazing staff who couldn’t have been more accommodating.

As it had been a really tricky time, I chose lamb chops for dinner, as a special treat. I like them crispy and very well done - I don’t like flabby fat or pink meat. I requested this but despite asking to have them cooked more, they can back still bloody. Chef said he couldn’t cook them any more which I find bizarre.

Restaurant and bar area had a great atmosphere, made even better by an excellent hospitality team, who were courteous, friendly and couldn’t do enough to make our stay special; great team work, hat off to you The Railway Inn! Food was of a high standard and service very quick, couldn’t fault it.

Rooms while clean and comfortable, were tired and need a make over and some TLC.
