We recently stayed at the Hotel Cardinal for 5 nights in February 2025. Our stay was excellent, a 10 out of 10. There are so many positives to say about the Hotel Cardinal. First, the location is so good, right behind the Cathedrale St-Andre. But don't worry, the sound of the bells from the tower on the other side don't really bother you. The hotel is steps away from the historic L'Hotel de ville, and a 2 minute walk from the Musee des Beaux Arts. It is very easy to walk from the hotel to many other beautiful and historic sights, and shopping. The tram lines also stop by the cathedrale. The hotel itself, like so much of the old city center, is a very old building that is beautifully restored on the inside. Our sleeping room was a very good size, with a small kitchen, which came in handy. The room was super clean and quiet and intimate. I believe there are only 10 rooms in the Hotel Cardinal. Each room has a name, not a number. The staff is truly extraordinary. In our experience Axel and Bastien were also ready to help us with anything we needed: extra towels, directions to anywhere we wanted to go, arranging a taxi, even getting toast for my wife when she wasn't feeling well. Things you might want to know: Ask the hotel to call a taxi if you need one. We used a taxi to go to the train station (20 Euros) so we didn't have to change tram lines with our bags. If you take an uber, you should know that ubers are not allowed on the small street in front of the hotel, but taxis are allowed. The hotel has a breakfast for extra cost, which we did not have. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but that doesn't matter because there are so many other places just steps away from the front door. Summary: My wife and I highly recommend the Hotel Cardinal for many reasons, its location, its beautiful condition with very good sized rooms, The hotel is very small and quiet and charming. The staff is superior, always with such excellent attention paid.

Small "boutique" hotel with about 10 rooms total in one of the main tourist areas of Bordeaux City (across from cathedral), near two tram lines, one running from and to the airport for easy access. 10 minute walk from main square, mostly in pedestrian zone, including longest pedestrian street in Europe (as reported by locals). Hotel does not have a dining area, so breakfast is served in the room. There are a number of local eateries for that meal so it's not much of an inconvenience to go out each day (although they usually don't open until 0900 or later, French style). There is at least one staff person on site 24 hours a day, for information and general services.

As long as you understand that this hotel is small, with limited dining services, it provides all the necessities to explore old Bordeaux City and beyond, with few other negatives, at a reasonable price.

Everything! Excellent location, next to Cathedral and Museum of Art. The service provided by Bastien and Axel was top notch. Their attention to detail was notable. The room is perfectly designed with a small kitchen that includes refrigerator, cook top stove,microwave, dishwasher, al the utensils and cooking wares. Breakfast served in your suite with fruit, eggs, pastries, coffee, tea, freshly squat juices. Bathroom is small, but efficiently designed with walkin shower and towel warmer. This hotel is a jewel in Bordeaux. Our gratitude to Bastien and his team!!

Great location, within walking distance to the St. Catherine shopping avenue and the Opera House and river. Tram lines provide access to more distant hotspots. Our room was a suite with a separate living area and kitchenette. Very comfortable bed and Clarins toiletries. Outstanding cleanliness and wonderful small touches like complmentary shoe shine and daily refresh of a small chocolate or biscuit. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very polite.

Our Suite was very comfortable, staff excellent, room was not available for late checkout but staff allowed us to use a very comfortable conference room until later in the day. A great selection of wines were available for purchase. Great location with shopping and grocery shops nearby, Tram was a short distance away. I would stay again 5 stars.

The " Hotel" is more like short term rental apartments there is no bar or meals served, breakfast is only available delivered to your room.

We ended up staying in the Cardinal Suite (upgraded since they had a water leak that made staying in our booked room unbearable). The manager prioritized our experience and gave us quite a meaningful upgrade. The Cardinal Suite is HUGE, living room on one side with big dining table, outdoor area, huge bathroom with tub in middle, and cozy bedroom. I unfortunately had to take some work calls, which worked out very well because the living room is far from the bedroom. The room was just wow, the pictures really do not do it justice. We had breakfast in the room every day, they bring it up and set up the whole table. Location was really in the center (about 5 min walk to St Catherine main street).

The room had low ceilings, so I bumped my head a few times.

It located close to many places to eat and shop. It also was very close to 2 tram stops that could quickly take you anywhere in central Bordeaux. The hotel was on a quiet street. The rooms were spacious and unique. The staff were very friendly and helpful always.

What a gem of a place! The room was spacious with a sitting area and kitchen, and the bed was very comfortable. Quiet area, but walking distance to great restaurants, sights and wine bars. Staff could not be more kind and accommodating. Loved this little hotel and would love to return!

Honestly, no complaints. This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way.

Excellent location in the centre of Bordeaux. Very helpful, friendly staff. Lovely touches such as hand made treats each evening and gifts of Clarins products and a toy for our grandson on departure. Great decor and comfortable beds . Fridge and stove and microwave and kitchen equipment an added extra and a help while traveling with a baby.

Our room was very dark - a privilege suite on the ground floor . Avoid this room if you have a choice . The bathroom was also tiny.

Ideal location to explore the city. Very discreet next to the hotel de ville and cathedral . Very quiet hotel with excellent air conditioning.
