Der Ruhe Blatz is a tranquil gem nestled in Amish country of LaGrange County, Indiana. The rooms are so comfortable, the handmade local furniture lends an exquisite country feel to the guest rooms, the staff are so kind, helpful, and everything from amenities to room information has been well thought out and arranged to maximize guest comfort and enjoyment. The included breakfast was delicious with a great variety of make your own waffles, eggs, cereal, yogurt, sausage, and biscuits and gravy. Though the food options offered may differ slightly during your stay, they're guaranteed to be delicious. Please drive right past the big chain hotels and give Der Ruhe Blatz your business when you come to stay in the Shipshewana area - you won't regret it! Bonus tip - if you stay overnight from Saturday to Sunday, in the morning you will awaken to the gentle clip clop of horse hooves as the buggies make their way to the weekly services... but you won't hear much else - such peace and tranquility!

The motel had an sweet vibe, and fit in very well with the surrounding area. The beds were awesome, the room was very clean and super quiet. There was plenty of space in the room to move around and be comfortable without being on top of one another.

Breakfast is definitely something they need to work on. As a chef, I am not particularly too picky, but breakfast is my go to meal and the breakfast here needs work. The eggs were edible, but the frozen mixed veggies in the eggs were off putting at best. The gravy was runny, but the biscuits were good. They do have an awesome collection of hot drinks, and they did provide fresh fruit, so I would rate the meal as a C+.

Bed was comfortable, room was clean. We'd stay here again!

Refrigerator was turned off when we arrived. Glad we checked it before getting dinner as we needed it to put our leftovers in. Bathroom was a little dark. Breakfast was served 7-9am, however they didn't refill anything after we arrived around 8:10am. There were only 4 biscuits (to go with gravy) when we went in. My husband and I each took only 1 as there were other people in line, my husband assumed they'd put more out and he'd go back for seconds when they refilled them. They didn't refill and when someone else asked they were told they could use bread. Also breakfast area was the office lobby so it was cramped. A bit challenging to get around tables, chairs, and other guests in my wheelchair. The other guests were very polite and accommodating though.

The staff was very friendly, the motel was super close to the concert we were going to, and we were able to bring our little dog. Rooms aren't huge, just enough room for overnight, especially with our dog's little cage in the only free spot. Not fancy, but priced way lower than the surrounding hotels that are just ridiculous! Bed was comfortable. Hot breakfast available in the morning. The one story was great because I've paid a lot for hotels and ran up and down flights of stairs because of busy or broken elevators. Park right in front of your door.

I didn't have any breakfast because it's over at 9am and I'm not a morning person. 10am would have been better. There is a very, very strong smell of fragrance, like an air freshener. Strong perfume smells aggravate my allergies. I was looking all over for the culprit. In the morning, on my way down to the lobby, I could see the cleaning lady at work in the next room. She DUMPS freshening powder all over the carpet and leaves it sit before vacuuming. Maybe lighter on the powder or shampoo them more often?

The room was very clean and close to everything I needed to access. Despite being a motel, it was VERY quiet. The grounds were well-groomed, and I was able to park right outside my room... seems that people were very courteous about that. The bed was quite comfortable, and the room temp cooled quickly. I was just there to catch a concert, and the venue is, literally, about 2 minutes away. Good country diner, coffee shop, bulk foods, and popcorn ALL within minutes. I will absolutely stay here again.

It was, perhaps, a little pricey for what it was, but a value compared to nearby options.

For what we paid I was really skeptical. Place was great. I can’t believe how clean everything was. Even the carpet! We could tell the sheets and blankets were washed recently because they smelled fresh. At night, the parking lot was all lit up, which was nice for safety reasons. Another plus is that they had a flyer with all the tv channels listed. Also we got a free post card. Where it is located we could walk everywhere we wanted to go but that would be for another season.

It was an excellent location for the entrance to the Shipshawana Flea Market. Room was very nice and the handicapped bathroom was spacious. The breakfast room was a little small so one morning we took our breakfast back to our room which wasn't a big problem. You might want to inform travelers that if they are arriving later than 8 p,m. they should probably eat before they arrive. Chicago Pizza closes at 8 and Subway closes at 9. All other restaurants close at 4 or 5 p.m. Beautiful stay.

The entire property was very clean. Dogs are allowed and nowhere did I see any dog waste. The room we had was also very clean. Breakfast was included. And oh what a breakfast! Homemade biscuits and fresh, not canned, sausage gravy. Also scrambled eggs that weren’t dried out. Sausage links and potatoes, too. There were also bagels and mini muffins and chocolate chip cookies. Coffee was delicious with both flavored and regular cream, a variety of tea, and two kinds of juice. Oh, and there was a waffle maker, too!

Nothing

The room was small but comfortable. It had a refrigerator and a microwave, which is convenient, although I did not use them. There is a campground next door, which might be of interest to some. Breakfast was provided and was quite adequate. There was a grab bar next to the tub, which is a big plus for me.

I would have liked a chair that was comfortable for reading. (The room had a small table and two chairs. The walls are not soundproof, and I could hear the loud snoring of someone in the next room.

I really enjoyed my stay. I eat gluten free. So a lot of times I take my food with me. It's just easier. The fridge and the microwave in the room made fixing my food so much easier. Also the shower was amazing.

These weren't deal breakers for me. The fan in the bathroom sounded awful. It sounded like it would quit at any moment. It was obnoxiously loud. Also the carpet needed to be shampooed. I ended up just wearing my slippers the whole time.
