Wonder woman works here aka Tracy - amazing hospitality wherever we went she was there providing genuine and lovely service levels - breakfast was very good value, spacious room, quiet, excellent value for money and functional bathroom - for the price paid absolutely no complaints but see some commentary below intended to guide rather than critisize an otherwise excellent value for money property where we would absolutely stay again - thanks Tracy and rest of the team - truly hope ownership values the positive Tracy and the rest of the team make to a well priced experience - prices could go up and still be value for money

You need to be either under 30 or have a degree in rocket science to understand the TV! Simple instructions in the room to assist old, infirm and non rocket engineers PLEASE - also the heater not much easier - And those pillows overly firm for my personal taste - suggest when finances allow buy a few less firm as an option or offer two firm two medium/softer ones - tall order but worth a mention -

Having just been refurbished lovely colour design. The bedrooms seem a little basic but nevertheless ideal for the 2 days stay. Obviously it appears some. “Snagging” is still required the 1st room we were given had a portable heater as the radiator was was working and the hot water was not hot. It was soon remedied as we were helped to move to another room which the member of staff had been in to check both things were working.

The road is exceptionally busy and somewhat noisy especially at night if you have the windows open. Breakfast needs to be more organised menu’s for cooked are not on all the tables and dessert spoons for cereal and yoghurts had a to be requested. This could be because they are just getting up to speed after refurbishing.

Room was very clean,very comfortable and well supplied/equipped. The breakfast was very good,well presented with lots of choice. Bed was really comfortable,slept very well ! Ate in on the first night , good value and an excellent wine. Trevor-the-local was really good at describing the area,it's history,the Luddites etc.Much appreciated! Also recommended the curry on the first night!

No food on the second night but good recommendation from the staff for the Fox n Hounds with good food and live band. Room outlook (211) roof and fag ends not too good. Could do with some local pictures of area,the dam ,the castle/park etc.

Lovely location for a short break. Room (206) was nice and quiet and appeared to be newly refurbished. Bed was extremely comfortable and I slept very well. Tea and coffee facilities available and plenty of power points in the room. The room would benefit from pictures on the wall to break up the simplicity. I won’t say it was a downside as I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Staff were very helpful and welcoming too. Handy parking directly at the front of the hotel.

The location was very good with just a short walk to the local pubs, restaurant and cafes. Nearby lakeside walks and easy driving distance to Wakefield. Breakfast okay with both cooked and continental options. Pleasant one night stay to break our journey further north.

Rooms clean and comfortable but rather bland/sterile with no pictures on the walls. Not much choice of drinks at the hotel bar. Overall fine for a one night stay and good value.

The peace and quiet until early hours of the morning

The dark corridors. Also some noise early hours of the morning that was outside at the back of the hotel by the skips which woke us up as we had our window open due to how warm our room was. At the end of our stay we was only asked by the member of staff if we had anything to pay...not if we had actually enjoyed our overnight stay or if there had been any problems at all.

Large Comfortable Bed, with a lovely Clean Bathroom with a good quality Shower and plenty of Hot Water, Hand Soap & Shower Gel Supplied. The Full English Breakfast was superb, one of the best I have had in a UK Hotel. The Staff were very helpful chatty and friendly, they made a pleasant stay into a lovely stay, thank you.

Spacious room with a large bed. Very comfortable. Clean bathroom with all necessities. Perfect location close to MillerDam Park and restaurants, and pubs. The Park is beautiful and you can walk around the lake or choose different pathways.

A little fridge in the room would be great. All drinks were too warm to be pleasant to drink.

The rooms are basic and could do with a bit of a refresh, also it would have been good to have been told we had twin beds pushed together. Whilst the extra width was good, it made it a bit uncomfortable whilst watching tv cuddled up. On the tv, they need to sort out the reception as half the channels you couldn't watch due to tuning issues

We enjoyed the whole time spent at the Great Western and booked an overnight stay for our return journey on the following Thursday but on the day before, they telephoned us to say that they would have to cancel our reservation as the hotel was closing down that night. No explanation given, no offer of other accommodation but luckily we were able to book Travel Lodge at Wakefield from the Travel Lodge hotel in Matlock. Sorry to see this happen as every aspect of the hotel was brilliant and we had already decided that we would use the hotel whenever we were on holiday in that area.
