Old colonial style hotel (pictures of the Queen, grounds staff dressed in beefeater style costume etc). Very nice facilities with a lovely indoor pool. Our room was OK, but I think there are nicer ones. The buffet breakfast is stupendous.

The British colonial stuff is a bit cod and queasy making, especially with waitresses dressed like maids from Gone with the Wind. Given that the emphasis is on Britishness, we were very surprised to see they were flying the Russian flag. As Russia has illegally invaded Ukraine and is responsible for Alexei Navalny's death this seems at odds with British values: democracy and the rule of law. When we asked why they were flying it we were told this was because they had Russian guests! They didn't seem to realise flying a country's flag endorses what it stands for.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. The hotel itself has an old english charm look and feel both inside and in its surrounding grounds which was lovely. Surrounding gardens were also very beautiful. Staff were very attentive and rooms clean.

If anything, I would say that the staff were too attentive, particularly in the restaurant. They somewhat hovered over you constantly and were always watching which was quite off putting.

fantastic colonial hotel with lots of English traditions. ground were immaculate and service was very good. the room was comfortable and it was lovely to find a chocolate birthday cake for my mums celebrations. the Thai restaurant was delicious - would recommend for an evening meal. breakfast buffet had plenty of choice.

the spa was a huge disappointment. despite the signs saying silence and to expect a “tranquil” experience - we found children playing fighting and screaming in the pool which made it far from relaxing. we were unable to use the pool for this reason which was a shame.

Beautiful timeless architecture that has been well maintained over the years. Staff work very hard to keep this place in such excellent condition. Facilities were excellent, we used the gym, spa and pool while we were there and all were superb!

We're a family of six (four kids!) and just spent 2 days at Grand Hotel. If I had to sum up our experience in one word, it would be PERFECTGrand Hotel  is an ideal choice for a vacation at Kandy. It's conveniently close to all the action – bars, restaurants, and surf spots – yet provides a wonderfully quiet and relaxing escape.The rooms were spacious, well-equipped, and impeccably clean. The staff were exceptionally professional and always attentive to our requests with a special thanks to Shiron! The meals, from breakfast to dinner, were consistently tasty, and the menu offered a great variety.I highly recommend Grand Hotel that contributing to our perfect family vacation.

This was a big hotel and had the best breakfast of our stay so much choice. Having played a lot of snooker in my youth I was amazed at the magnificent snooker room with it's three tables as well as the history in the room, a couple of island champions looking after the whole area as well who were a pleasure to meet, talk and play with( i got a thrashing😄). Lots of places to eat, on the first night we were in the small area which seats about 20 the food was great.

Very busy at time of check in and did not feel a great welcome at first. Later waiting too long for cocktails. The bar area very dark but I believe that was the intent.

The ground floor of the hotel is amazing and definitely feels 5 star. So many different parts to explore and steeped in lots of very interesting history. Great buffet breakfast, and we had an excellent meal at their Thai restaurant.

The rooms are fairly outdated and you’d expect something nicer for a 5 star hotel. The staff that greeted us upon arrival were very friendly and helpful, but it was mixed in other parts of the hotel - would expect more consistently good customer service that is seamless and joined up at a hotel of this calibre.

Beautiful property and grounds. Nice roomy room. Lovely tranquil swimming pool. Nice bright gym. Great food and restaurant options. Each different with lovely decor. Loved the conservatory area for lunch. The hedge art in the garden is great! Lots of places to sit and enjoy the greenery under a shade.

1) The shower - the water pressure was very similar to mine back in England. Had hoped for better in a hotel like this but maybe the plumbing is old. Difficult to get the right water temperature. 2) when staff were asked for things we could do, only one suggestion was made! Staff need to be trained to provide a raft of options, inside and outside of the hotel.
