Was wonderful to have a cocktail overlooking the town and to see the view after dinner from the castle rooftop.
Was a little confusing with construction how to get the luggage to the castle on a very hot day. Parking was quite far away...we had two large bags and it was in the upper 80's that day. The person at the desk did not volunteer any assistance, but a young guy ( who is also an up-and-coming rap star) jumped in and rescued the day. He drove my husband over to retrieve the bags and said he would drive us to the car when we left. He was a lifesaver!

A room under the dining room had footsteps with post dinner clean up, but we were moved upon request to a room without that issue. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We got to stay in a castle! Walking the walls, the view, the location…incredible! Breakfast was included and fantastic!
The delay getting to and from the room with bags. You park outside the walls of the city. The hotel provides a golf cart that seats 3 people and holds a couple of large bags. There can be a 30+ minute wait once you arrive and are ready to depart. You won’t be able to cover the distance on your own with anything more than a backpack.

Our stay at Pousada Castelo de Óbidos was truly memorable. The property offers a unique and enchanting experience, blending historical charm with modern comfort. Nestled within the walls of a beautifully preserved medieval castle, the atmosphere is both romantic and serene. The accommodations were clean, well-appointed, and thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of the castle while providing all the necessary amenities. The staff were exceptionally welcoming, attentive, and professional, making us feel valued from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was exceptional—beautifully presented, with a wide variety of delicious options. The servers were outstanding: warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable. The location is ideal for exploring the picturesque town of Óbidos, with its cobbled streets, charming shops, and rich cultural heritage just steps away. Staying in such a historic setting added a special dimension to our visit, and we would highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a unique and unforgettable experience in Portugal.
While our overall experience was incredible, there were a couple of areas that could be improved. The directions provided through Booking.com led us to a staff-only back entrance, which caused some initial confusion. Future guests may benefit from requesting detailed arrival instructions directly from the property to ensure a smoother check-in. Additionally, the room we stayed in was a little small and had a musty odor. However, given the historic nature of the castle, this is somewhat expected and part of the authentic charm of staying in such a unique setting. Overall, we highly recommend Pousada Castelo de Óbidos for anyone seeking a unique and immersive stay in a historic setting.

We chose to stay here as it read that the only access to the castle was if you had a room here but most of the courtyard and other areas are open to the General Public which did not make our room seem very private. The only thing it gives you access to is some of the walks along the roof but you can get in there if someone has left the secure door open which was open many times that we were there. Also make sure to read your emails from them carefully. The parking lot while only a few minutes away is a vertical climb and they will pick you up if you call them.
We didn't like the fact that our room sat on a courtyard that was open to the General Public

We stayed in the rooms adjacent to the hotel (courtyard?) and loved them. Spacious, clean, unique styling with the wooden roof, and with a terrace and nice city views. Obidos gets quite busy during the day, but things quiet down in the evening and early morning, and it was great having the town to ourselves then. Didn't eat supper at the Pousada, but the breakfast was great! We loved waking up to all the birds chirping and to the lovely town views from our window. Super relaxing place to stay! Also loved that they will pick you up and drive you back to your vehicle (you must park outside the walls). The stay is not cheap, but was a great splurge for us and we enjoyed staying at the castle. We also walked the walls in the morning with fewer people which I'd highly recommend. It is a cool experience, but not for the weak of heart! No railings anywhere, and some steep stairs, but if you are okay with heights, it was worth it for both the views and the experience.
There was nothing we didn't like. However, if you have mobility issues, this would be a hard place to visit as there are many stairs everywhere.

It was incredible to stay a night in a piece of history. The view from our window was gorgeous, we could see one of the castle towers just outside. Walking the walls is thrilling. Apparently three people fall off the walls every year (average). It's high and intimidating but worth walking along the top of it you're able. Breakfast was great! They had a lot to choose from with some great pastries a d even mimosas. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We splurged to stay here a night on our honeymoon and I'm glad we did. We have some unforgettable memories.
Almost nothing - take care, though! The cobblestone streets are steeply inclined and the stones have been polished smooth over the centuries. And, the wall is kind of dangerous.

We were in the Tower Room(Rei Didis). What an experience! We will never have another like it. We are both over 65 so getting up in the middle of the night was a challenge but, by the end of our stay we were well used to negotiating the steep and narrow stairs. Service was impeccable and when we asked for glasses in our room for a bottle of wine and some cheese we had brought, we were very impressed with the extra effort to provide a corkscrew, bread/crackers and some jam. What a nice surprise! Of course the views were amazing, although we were conflicted by wanting to spend as much time in our room as possible!!
We were watching an important football match in the lounge (Porto/Benfica) and decided to finish watching in our room but it wasn't available on the tv in our room. This was a regional game! We were settled in so had to rely on occasional on line updates. Check in and check out, while very friendly and helpful, were very under-staffed. We had to wait an hour to check in to our room and another 45 minutes to get a ride down to the parking lot. We were encouraged to walk up to the castle on arrival with light luggage, which we did, but would have appreciated better setting of expectations/directions (grant that we could have studied the map a little better but some signage would have helped)

Every member of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Guireme (my apologies if the spelling is incorrect) was amazing. The waiter at the restaurant (apologies I don't know his name) took the time to print us an English bus schedule for our next leg to Lisbon. This trip was a 40th anniversary trip after a very difficult year. It exceeded every expectation and I cannot find the words to express how magical this place really is. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was one of the best meals we have had so far in Portugal. Missing the castle in Obidos when in Portugal would be a shame in my opinion.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Got a great price because of "genius" points and time of year. Very helpful and accommodating staff - picked us up at bus station and dropped us back there when we left. Served us lovely cherry liquor during check-in. Perhaps most comfortable bed and pillows we've ever had. Charming room with lovely view of historic wall. Lovely courtyard with tables where we had our picnic lunch. Breakfast was very extensive and delicious and staff very attentive. Located in heart of old town with shops, restaurants and historic sites at doorstep.

The castle is beautiful and a very special place, the staff is very friendly and extremely helpful! There is a little golf cart that can help bring your luggage up from the parking lot to the castle and back to your car. The breakfast is delicious and the views amazing. The staff was great and Obidos is a cute special medieval town surrounded by the castle walls which you can walk on.
The bed was a little lopsided (but still comfortable)- the castle is amazing and worth visiting!
