Loved the service and friendliness of the staff in all departments. Quiet rare to find such good service in SA anymore. Enjoyed our water bottles being replenished every night with the turndown service. Nice touch to have a movie showing in the cinema room every day. Food quality is superb and the breakfasts absolutely delightful with a huge amount of variety.

Not a fan of the plastic covers on the chairs and couches, the chairs are quite deep so not able to lean back properly. Also, when the weather doesn't permit one to sit outside it can get rather noisy. Would have preferred to have curry for lunch but unfortunately it's only available for dinner. The spa doesn't have a sauna facility.

Discounting in front desk On friday when i arrived ,i ask for late check out as our flight was later . I was told management will assist Went back again same story Sunday i went again same story Monday arrived at 10am only to be told ,sorry u need let us know .on arrival which i did.by person calling my room to request a doorman to collect my bags. The manager offered 1 Hrs only .after 100 explaination that i ask on Friday into weekend Which we said leave it. I got upset , said leave it I'm waisting my time. I will not return to hotel again . So much money spend there not worth it anymore

Late check request

Our stay was super! The Oyster Box Hotel is wonderful and their staff are excellent. Particular mention has to be made of Tracy the lady who seated us at breakfast each morning. So friendly and helpful and sweet. All the wait staff were great and the pool guys went out of their way to assist and bring towels and drinks and even iced water mist bottles as it was extremely hot. (Although we don't have little ones, I noted that the lifeguards spent hours with the children at the pool each day whilst keeping an eye out on all). Breakfast was a delight each morning and our room was spacious, quiet and lovely.

Our only issue was that the air-con in our room did not cool it to a degree we prefer and it remained rather warm despite re-setting it twice. This could have been due to the size of the room or the very hot temps in Durban. Our meal on the terrace late one afternoon took over an hour to arrive, was cold when it got there and was really very average for an excellent hotel like this. Also, we requested help with our bags on checkout (in advance with reception then twice per call) but after 15 minutes there was still no porter so we carried them ourselves as our lift had arrived. All minor things though and we would certainly return in future!

The staff are very friendly. The food at the restaurants is excellent. Facilities are very good. Great view of the beach. Staff are very willing to help guest with any requests.

Breakfast was a bit busy leading initially to delayed service initially, but once these issues were brought to their attention, the staff were amazingly helpful. The inside pool is lovely, but unfortunately they did not have towels when we arrived just before 6pm. I asked a staff member at the pool if it's better for me to towels from my room, but he said he would get towels for me and the falmily, and then bever returned, which left us without towels at the pool. But other than these very minor issues, the stay was lovely.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Oyster Box in Umhlanga. We enjoyed our first few nights so much that we decided to book extra nights on our way home—it was that amazing! The service here is truly second to none. The attention to detail and hospitality were simply outstanding and made our visit unforgettable. A special mention goes to Letho, one of the waitresses during breakfast—she was incredible and truly went above and beyond, leaving a lasting impression on us. Vivian, our chauffeur driver, was excellent, making every journey seamless and enjoyable. However, it feels unfair to single out individuals because, as you move through the hotel, every single person contributes to the exceptional experience. From the bell boys, concierge, front desk, and hostesses at lunch to the waiters, waitresses, musicians, and management—everyone is so warm and friendly, creating an atmosphere of true hospitality. The service around the pool during the day was also outstanding. We were blown away when the team organized a thoughtful gift for a friend within just five minutes—an example of their incredible efficiency and care. Our 16-month-old daughter was treated like family, and it was heartwarming to see how much the team engaged with her, letting her explore and run around freely. We also adored Skabenga, the resident house cat! He was so sweet to our daughter, who absolutely loved him. The fact that dogs are also welcome at the hotel made the whole experience feel even more like home. And of course, the cheeky monkeys added their own charm!

Having visited the OB a number of times, the can do attitude of sown of the staff was a little diluted. When arriving at the lighthouse bar that had been taken over by a cooperate function, the manger on duty apathetically told us they could not assist with a table. There appears to be a new trend where non residents book breakfast and secure the best seatings leaving no outside seating for residents. In the past residents were favoured however not the case recently. Our room bed sheets were not soft and quite scratchy and uncomfortable furthermore there were no blinds thus the sun streamed into the room from 5am which was very unpleasant. I do hope this was just a bad once off experience as we do love the hotel and would like to try it again

I was with my friend, and we were celebraing her birthday. First of all the location is perfect for any kind of celebration as its on the beach ⛱️. The service is out of this world. The staff made it a point that my friend had the best birthday, and went all out to send complimentary bubbly and birthday card to our room. They made it very special....The food is excellent 👌. They have complimentary shuttle to drive safely within 5 km of the hotel, anytime of the day...5' star shuttle for that matter...Oyster Box is indeed the pinnacle of luxury holidaying, I would recommend it to anyone who wants luxury living. I will definitely be back.

Everything was perfect

We stayed at The Oyster Box for this year’s Comrades marathon, and had a truly brilliant time. The hotel itself is very special - deeply steeped in history, in a great location and with top notch facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed the view over the sea and THAT light house from our room, some great spa treatments and exquisite dining (we would definitely recommend a dinner at The Grill Room, but also very much enjoyed the fabulous sea food platter in the main restaurant). However, the most distinguishing feature of them all might be the truly marvellous staff, who went out of their way to make our stay truly special. Be it Kishan at the concierge desk, Calum in the dining room or the entire crew of drivers, no quirky ask was too much (extra bagels with peanut butter and honey for pre race breakfast at 3am? No problem!), everybody was extremely friendly and welcoming and always happy to go the extra mile. We have made very fond memories during our time at The Oyster Box and have already booked our next visit!

The level of service was impeccable. Upon arrival, we were greeted with hot towels and sparkling wine. All of the staff were welcoming and seemed to go out of their way to be helpful — Especially the head Concierge (Kishan?)who advised us with a variety of issues and even mailed a large package back to the States for us! The hotel was beautiful, the breakfast buffet had everything you could ever want and all while enjoying a breathtaking oceanfront view. The restaurant staff at breakfast was wonderful. Despite it being a large hotel they knew us by name and we had many great conversations. After returning to the hotel from a four-day trip to Lesotho we were upgraded to a room with an oceanfront view which we greatly enjoyed. We also treated ourselves to massages in the well appointed spa which were expertly done and the atmosphere perfect.

Breakfast could be served earlier during the week at 6am. Always have business on the move. I was not sure if the beaches were safe to bathe in. Some information on this would be useful
