This place is extraordinary. We stayed in Rock House after staying at a private reserve for a couple of days and had a wonderful time. The area is amazing and you actually need at least 2/3 nights here: 1 full day for Kruger and definitely 1-2 full days to appreciate the lodge and relax: there are great hiking opportunities and the morning game drive is wonderful (Ross is a great guide). Everyone is very friendly (especially Mavis who served our dinner and was very friendly). The food was also very good, and they have a great wine list with fair prices. We will definitely come back in the future !

Tomjachu Bush Retreat was a beautiful and peaceful escape. The dinner was lovely, and breakfast was excellent every day – thoughtfully prepared and full of flavour. We stayed in the Keeper’s Cottage, which was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with everything we needed – plus the lovely touch of a hot water bottle delivered each night. The views were stunning, and we loved the beautiful walks and wildlife right on our doorstep. The staff were warm, helpful, and made us feel truly welcome throughout our stay.

Stunning and peaceful location. Thoughtful and professional staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Great place for anything from peaceful walks to vigorous hikes. We saw zebras peacefully grazing in the wild as we went on a walk one day. The self catering services were great - we had a private braai and everything we need to make other meals ourselves. We also tried the exceptional chef-prepared food. The chocolate fondant is to die for! I didn't want to go home. Will definitely be back!

We stayed in the Rock House and the views were breathtaking. The staff were attentive and courteous. Breakfast and dinner are served everyday at the Homestead (main house) on the patio (weather permitting). Food was excellent. On arrival, there were two zebras grazing opposite reception. We took a walk down to the South Dam (10 minute walk) one afternoon and saw 3 giraffes and an ostrich and plenty of impala. It is really hard to describe this magical place as it was truly, a memorable experience.

The drive up to the retreat is on a long umade road, so be prepared for a ‘bumpy’ ride. Although we had a plunge pool, we were not able to use it, as neither that or the main swimming pool are heated. But to be honest, this place is not for ‘sunbathing’ it is an adventure!

I have to say a special thank you to Sandy, Charles, Ross and team for making my milestone birthday weekend with friends an absolute epic weekend with memories to treasure! The Villa Valbonne was perfect in so many ways with incredible views. Sandy and team went out of their way to make the weekend special for us and so many gestures to make sure we are comfortable and everything goes according to plan. They made the weekend even more special. The staff are also so friendly and helpful. The food is amazing and they pay attention to small details which make such a difference. This is a one in a kind place and run with love and attention. Thank you to everyone for making my birthday weekend so unforgettable. We all wished we stayed longer, but we will definitely be back!

Disliked · That we had to leave Tomjachu! :-)

I loved everything, it was my second time visiting Tomjachu and I'm happy to say,I would gladly come back again. Tomjachu is a breath of fresh air honestly.

The cleanliness was a bit disappointing. The hanging rack or closet was dirty, there were layers of dust in the closet drawers, my kids and I we all suffer from sinuses and asthma so that was a bit of a problem, I suggest that the housekeeper must do a thorough cleaning in the closet and the outside furniture. Otherwise we had a lovely time.

We were spoiled so much and had the most fantastic experience at Tomjachu. We were on our honeymoon and enjoyed warm fires, splendid views, and perfect food. A gem between the mountains just outside of Mbombela. Friendly and professional staff satisfying your every request.

The dirt road taking you towards the location was a bit bumpy and would be better driven with a bakkie, but it was manageable with a high vehichle.

Our stay at Tomjachu was exceptional. We've never experienced such a good combination of service, location and food in our lives (even compared to 4* Hotels in Germany, France, Netherlands and Austria). The dishes were generous and delicious (breakfast, dinner and the lunch-packages), the staff was welcoming, attentive and helpful be it in spontaneous planning of activities or the arrangement of something (like Bush Dinner, Nature Drive or Breakfast). Furthermore the view and the whole surroundings were stunning. They have different animals there (Wildebeest, Giraffe, lot of birds, reptiles and so on.). Some people complained about the gravel road. If you have no lowered sport car you could do the road easily (we had a Toyota Corolla Quest).

There's not much we could mention here: The windows were not equipped with fly screens. Maybe we were in luck or the insects aren't gonna like inside the accommodations, but only one buck found its way into our rooms (other lodges we've visited didn't use fly screens too). Another thing are the ticks in the grass if you do hikes. There are a lot of them. However they aren't near the main lodges and if you visit at the right time you won't even recognize them.

Everything! You are completely engulfed by nature! One of the nicest places we have stayed. The customer service, and the manager in particular, is outstanding and very personable. Everyone on site tries their absolute best to make the stay not just great, but excellent. The room was very clean and the whole area so relaxing to stay at. A lovely atmosphere. The food was equally as nice. My partner is very hard to please and even he loved the food! We also felt incredibly safe the whole time we were there. Thank you so much for having us - we will definitely be back.

I liked everything.

Great location, Amazing views. Awesome staff. Accommodation was excellent - all the amenities needed - they thought of everything. (such as plug for hairdryer near mirror, which many places don't think of!) Thank you to Jay Dean, Abigail and Staff - no request was too much. From wanting to watch the rugby to extra braai wood! Thank you also for all the advice re roads/routes - the Panoramic route we took, a day in the Kruger National etc - even though we are South African, it helps to know that Waze is not always right :) I know everyone complains about the dirt road, but fortunately we had an SUV and sometimes you need to take a bit of an adventurous route to get to such beauty! The Rockhouse (and everything else) highly recommended, for romantic get-aways, family time, or even just a quick mother-daughter much needed get-away!

Loved everything - only comment if really need to say something - Light at the braai area at Rockhouse.
