The lodge and grounds are absolutely beautiful on a historic sight. Lush peaceful countryside setting. We took the very informative and moving half day battlefield tour with Raymond who is a gem and a pleasure to have met. Also took a game drive by the Dam which although a slightly neglected park, provided many good sightings. Small pool to relax by
Could do with some updating to the dining room , bar area and our bathroom in room 2. The food served, although well cooked, could be made more interesting. I'm sure the new lodge manager who arrived whilst we were there will make the difference.

The location is perfectly ticked away. The facilities are clearly displayed and clean. The staff are friendly and trained. Our waitress was inviting and well groomed. The food was delicious. The gardens are well maintained and the rooms are well placed for privacy. The rooms are nicely spaced and all facilities accommodate a person's needs and requirements.
No cover for vehicles. We had worms in our towels. (Photo taken of one for reference should the establishment contact us)

It was well situated to enjoy a battlefield outing. We enjoyed the rural atmosphere. There was a fun run and we enjoyed the energy and laughter. It was great meeting up and visiting with the owners who joined us for dinner and specially organised a trip to the battlefields the next day. It was great revisiting great childhood memories of the region. Accommodation was great and the meals were great. Staff was very friendly and professional.
Nothing really

The food (breakfast, lunch dinner) was exceptional and many of the meals were incredible Staff were friendly, attentive and engaging Raymond”s tour of Spion Kop Battlefield was truly memorable and emotional and brought this horrendous battle to life
Room interior looking a bit dated but didn’t really matter to us as the terrace was attractive and the pool area welcoming and the grounds are so inviting

A magnificent and peaceful setting with incredible staff and hosts. The room was very clean and comfortable and the meals were excellent. The highlight of the stay was the half-day "Battlefields" trip to Spioen Kop and Mount Alice provided by our host/guide, Raymond Herron. Incredible! For bird enthusiasts, the bird life is prolific. All in all Spioen Kop Lodge is highly recommended and we look forward to a return trip. Our thanks to all.
It would be useful to have a small soap and shampoo in the shower. Depending on what you prefer, the bed in our room was hard.

The most beautiful lush rolling green lawns! As you enter the gate, it’s a 1,5km drive to the lodge - what a treat to see warthogs, donkeys, cows en route to reception. Cows roam freely and and are beautiful.
That you have to phone reception every time you want to exit the gate. But I get it - it’s a farm and animals who roam freely can be stolen. Maybe a suggestion to give guests remotes.

Very quiet after staff told nosy guests to keep it down. Loved the breakfast, simple and well prepared.
Not a big problem bit no TV. I Would have a problem in summer as only a fan and no air con. Was a little warm in the night despite being Autum. The road leading to the lodge from Johannes urg direction bad potholes. Leaving for Durban the road better. Was OK.

The dinner was outstanding. The Lodge Manager was so lovely and a real asset to the establishment.
The twin beds need to be replaced as mattresses have deep indents in them. The cold water tap in the bath didn’t work, only hot water to run a bath - I had requested a room with a bath so this oversight is a bad reflection on the housekeeping staff.

Beautiful location, stunning and comfortable room, food was pleasant. Staff were always polite and friendly and went the extra mile to accommodate our children, sharing a room with them.
When we arrived, there were a few staff members (cleaning staff it seemed) sitting and relaxing in the sun on the patio of the room next door to ours. They then proceeded to shout to one another in their mother tongue. It was a bit off-putting, but the place was so beautiful it made up for the situation. They were incredibly accommodating of our two toddler children and allowed us to share a room with the kids, which I am very grateful for. However, dinner for the kids which was a very simple chicken strips and chips, was charged at R140 per child which I thought was steep. To be fair, it included a soup starter and a dessert which neither of them wanted or ate (as most toddlers don’t) so I would recommend simply omitting the starter and dessert and charging less for the meal.

Spion Kop lodge is set in immaculate grounds with a beautiful swimming pool. Our bedroom was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Food was excellent. Staff friendly and efficient. The lodge has so much history and we really enjoyed our half day battle field tour with Richard. We would highly recommend a stay if you want to experience an authentic and peaceful stay in this beautiful part of South Africa.
Nothing.
