For us, the main reason for stopping at the Green Lantern is its location, almost halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. It is an unusual hotel from the point of view of Old furniture (clean and recovered), antique bits and pieces, a lot of history. There is also, in the evening, a visit to the pub from Bo-Jangles - the sweetest donkey - to whom you can give a piece of apple or take a pic. After a briefish visit he then goes to join his friends in the stables. The staff are friendly and the hotel generally has a nice atmosphere. We sat and watched an old black and white Charlie Chaplin movie, which was great fun. It was pretty cold but the beds had electric blankets and air con. It was a really good experience all round.

I would have preferred a door to the bathroom, rather than a curtain. Having said that - the curtain was in fitting with the decor.

Green Lantern is like going back in time & is a cozy pleasure for weary travelers to stay & dine! The lobby & lounge area is stepping back into time with silent screen films playing where you feel so comfortable to cozy up & get a bowl of popcorn. The resteraunt is spacious & filled with old world charm from the late 1800’s & the food was like a nice home cooked meal on a cold winters night with fireplace going!

We have a dog who travels with us, so I needed to book the cottage with a yard, so this was an error on my part, but manager was so kind & gracious to accomodate!

My room was at the end of the garden, and had I not stayed there in the middle of winter, the walk to and from the room would have been even more beautiful. Luckily, even though I stayed on what I possibly believe to be the coldest night, the room was comfortable and the bed was super snuggly with the heated blanket.

I'm on the shorter side and the bathroom mirror was a bit high for my comfort, luckily there was a massive mirror in the room that allowed me to comfortably do my hair and makeup.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful especially the young lady that met us when we arrived called Landie She made sure we were shown our rooms and shown around the whole hotel, she also made us feel at home which is not normal in many hotels. the bar was something to remember and has hundreds of memorable stories on the walls. what an experience.

This is a complete nonsmoking hotel which means you have to stand outside in the rain and cold to have a smoke. maybe they could make some sort of area off the bar area which would be more accommodating for their smoking clients.

I always make a point of stopping there on my way to Durban, even though I could drive straight through. I am so glad I decided to book there years ago. Its now part of our trip to Durban and never disappoints. Even though it is off the beaten track, the standards remain high. Friendly and helpful staff during ones whole stay. The food is amazing to. The vibe off the charts. What a gem Green Lantern is! Highly recommend.

That I had to leave, otherwise there is absolutely nothing to complain about.

The Green Lantern is an absolute must-visit institution. The pub itself is incredible, offering a unique and charming atmosphere. The garden is stunning, featuring a swimming pool, trampoline, and a delightful array of animals including ducks, chickens, donkeys, and a horse. It's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a memorable experience.

The bedrooms at The Green Lantern are underwhelming. The rooms were quite small and very cold. Additionally, the breakfast offered was quite basic and lacked variety.

Drove from Joburg to meet halfway with some old friends from Durban to catch up. had an excellent stay with friendly and accommodating hosts that were always available and willing to help with refreshments and meals while we were socialising and playing pool, snooker, darts, table tennis and enjoying the garden.

Municipal issue but there was no water in the morning.

The staff are absolutely wonderful people, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending our evening talking to them. They, and their in-house animals, deserve the highest praise. The rooms & public lounges were very clean and beautifully decorated. The Inn's bar is covered in historical trinkets and local memorabilia, which made it very lively

The breakfast was a mix between self-service and table service, which was a bit complicated. The food itself was very enjoyable though.

The venue is excellent, located, the room and bathroom were great, and the staff went out of their way to assist where they could. The supper and breakfast were outstanding. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay over on route to Gauteng/Durban.

We loved our stay. This was our third time we stayed over at the Green Lantern on route to Ballito/Umdloti. We love everything about this place from its location, accommodation, food, the friendly staff, and last not least the bar.

I was given a wonderful warm welcome on arrival after a long drive. I had messed up my dates but they were very polite about it and quickly made a plan to fit me in. The parking is safe, the pub cosy and the food wholesome. I loved it. I was also interested to find that The Green Lantern Inn has been around for so long. What a delight to see all the old pics and stories on the walls!

Nothing to complain about at all
