Great location just off Dorp str which can be noisy.. this hotel is quiet, clean and comfortable with an old world / antiquey charm. Themba at reception was very welcoming and helpful at all times, parked the car inside for us at night and brought it out whenever we needed it.

Would be great if staff tips can be added to the bill and paid for by credit card as nobody carries cash any more. Music at breakfast needs attention to create a bit of atmosphere. Old skool is cool but some genres are just depressing.

This was a great place to stay, with lots of character and quirky finishes. Our room was super spacious, with a big ensuite bathroom (huge, circular bath and walk in shower) Breakfast was all fresh and delicious. Temba looked after us from beginning to end. He did everything and did everything well. Temba met us as we arrived and he parked our car in the secure parking. He showed us to our room. In the morning he brought us breakfast. Super professional and super friendly. Thank you for everything, Temba.

Everything was perfect - The help with parking (valet) could be mentioned on the listing. We appreciated it. We were able to leave our car early and attend an event nearby.

The staff were incredible. No request was too much. The location was also another pro; situated in the heart of the old town, we hardly needed to use our car. We could easily walk to dinner or to go shopping. I also need to call out the incredible quality of everything; from the beds to the linen, all the way through to the excellent breakfast.

We stayed in one of the newly built rooms, which was not quite complete. There were one or two finishings that the team was still waiting for, however, this was not a train smash, as the staff were so accommodating & ensured we had everything to make our stay comfortable.

It is a unique beautiful colonial property with fabulous ornaments, artwork and furniture, every room makes a statement and is tasteful and distinctive. I also have to mention the most beautiful bathroom I have ever seen !!!

Unfortunately South Africa has a problem with violence and theft which is not the fault of the owners and although I found their security measures reassuring, I was saddened that they were necessary

Everything!! All the staff, especially Temba, who is so helpful, efficient and friendly. The breakfasts were exceptional!! The location is wonderful - Batavia is situated in a quiet street, but within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the Stellenbosch museum ( which well worth a visit) . Would definitely stay at Batavia Boutique Hotel again.

I loved the oldy worldly feel of the hotel and the room. The staff are great and the breakfast was amazing with a huge array of fresh fruit, yogurt, cold cuts and the choice of hot breakfast. It was very centrally located within a very shorty flat walk to the Main Street ( church st ). I would recommend this boutique hotel to friends and family . For me there were no negatives .

Great location and beautiful rooms

Batavia wanted to charge us R300 because some of my hair colour got onto a towel. Luckily they took the charge away when we said we don’t mind to pay R300 but we want to take the towel and clean it ourselves.

Perfectly located for our needs (the university, good restaurants, shops) and in a lovely neighbourhood. Exceptionally helpful staff. A very good breakfast and very generous free drinks. I didn't have time to try the pool but it looked inviting.

They don't provide dinner but with so many excellent restaurants within five minutes walking that hardly matters. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints.

Located in central Stellenbosch the hotel was perfectly located for the cafes, shops etc. The manager, Themba, and staff were welcoming and attentive to everything we needed - from the beautiful breakfasts to arranging tours and drivers. The large rooms are beautifully and eclectically furnished with common rooms for lounging in.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They parked and pulled out our car for us and assisted with our luggage. They helped us make plans every day and served us a delicious breakfast. The one-way street is very quiet despite being so close to bars and restaurants in the heart of Stellenbosch.

The electrical outlet on my side of the bed didn't hold my plug very tightly so it was sometimes difficult to charge my phone. The other one worked fine, though.
