Loved this spot for its cleanliness, neatness, and the unexpected bonus of a room upgrade that gave us a lovely view of both the street and sea (we saw some small parade of school kids after full moon celebration - we had the best spot to watch). Since it's on a corner of the street, it's a bit noisy, though. We stayed for two nights and tried breakfast on the roof one day and in our room the next. Definitely recommend room service breakfast – it's way more comfortable and the view is somehow even better. The hotel is a bit on the pricey side, but you feel like you're staying in a real, old historic building, which is a cool plus.

The hotel can get quite hot, and the AC doesn’t quite cover it, especially near the balcony where it felt like a sauna during the day. Morning is definitely the best time to enjoy that area. One more thing to note, the doors are quite old and have some gaps, which felt a bit unsettling. We ended up covering them with tissues for more privacy.

Location couldn't have been better. Right on Rampart street (although street address is officially Pedlar Street) with a view of the sea over the fort wall. The fort is not that large so everything very walkable with a wide variety of restaurants, boutiques and historical landmarks all within the vicinity. The property itself was charming and our room was quite large with a lounging nook. The bed and bedding were comfy. Generous breakfast options (western and local) that needed to be ordered a day in advance and could be taken on the upper floor balconies or in the courtyard.

Rooms are a bit dim with lots of design, mood lighting, but fine. Closet interiors could be refreshed (to be on par with the rest of the room)

Beautiful. Tower room with patio terrace had fantastic sea, sunset and fort views. The room was small but worth it for the views. After 3nights we were very lucky to be upgraded to a new huge room with balcony that also had sea views. The staff (and manager) were exceptional. They found out it was my birthday and surprised me with a birthday cake and all sang me happy birthday. The breakfast options are outstanding. The location is perfect. The beds were very comfortable and the hot water was hot and plentiful. We stayed 5 nights. GALLE is so beautiful.

We had a great stay at The Bartizan – the location is beautiful and the building has a really charming old world European vibe. Our room was big, the bed was super comfy, and we loved having a private balcony that also served as our entrance, which felt very vintage. Breakfast on the balcony was lovely, and the Sinhala New Year buffet was very nice. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially at check-in and check-out as well as the security guard on the 12th and 14th April. Only issue was one staff member on the evening of the 13th April who made us feel awkward for not having exact change for laundry – felt like a big deal for him to find change for us when it really shouldn’t have been in terms of hospitality for guests.

Fantastic location right in the old fort. We had a room (31) with a narrow balcony looking straight out to sea. The room was very comfortable, very tasteful, beautiful and spacious. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful. The building itself has been excellently refurbished but the ground level courtyard has no view but it does have very cool music!

We liked everything. It would have been nice to sit on the upper shared terrace which had great views but there was no shade up there and it was very hot, so a few parasols would be a good idea. Just be aware that there is no bar which is fine as there are several just outside

I had such a lovely stay at the Bartizan. The building is a beautiful heritage Colonia building that has been done up to really well. It is a fantastic location for exploring the old fort. The staff were really wonderful, the manager Andrew went above and beyond when I needed a quick trip to the hospital, driving me there personally. Big thank you to all the staff for being very helpful and attentive, especially Lakshan who was especially good at his job. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again in a heartbeat

Views from the 3rd floor room #41 with private patio overlooking the fort wall and sea beyond. Breakfast was delicious and our service top knotch. Open all the blinds for a light, bright rooftop gem.

Lots of stairs, some with no handrail. The room is tight with room for one suitcase open on a bench. My husband's was on the floor blocking the stairs up to the patio as well as the stairs down to the front door. The weather was clear at first, and we absolutely loved the patio. When it started to rain, we hung out on the bed. If you don't mind stairs or a small room with double (not queen) bed up against the wall, this is a great choice.

I first had a ground floor room; however, they do not have windows and are quite small. I then received an upgrade to a first-floor room, and it was wonderful, lots of room, a balcony that you could close off to make it quite private. The Bartizan has an interesting history and the location is excellent. I travelled in a large group, 7 adults and 2 children (9 and 4 years).

Staff were obliging but a little hit and miss in terms of friendliness. The friendliest person was the security man at the entrance to the hotel. He always greeted us with a huge smile as we left or returned. He didn't speak English, but he didn't have to, he said it all with his warm smile and open friendliness.

Perfect location inside Galle fort, but instead of being right in the middle (like the most expensive old colonial hotels in the fort) it has the most fabulous views overlooking the sea (facing west, perfect for sunset), yet still a mere 5 mins walk from those other hotels - and a mere 1 minute walk from the best shopping and eating streets. Very quiet and calm, lovely staff, beautiful room decor. Complementary tea and a slice of cake on our veranda was a nice touch. No dinner restaurant, but that shouldn’t bother you - there are so many options in Galle anyway!

Excellent location in Galle Fort. Stunning sunset views on the rooftop and lovely breakfast. Lovely room and bathroom.

Bathroom door does not provide adequate privacy and odour travelling into bedroom. Bed linen, although I believe was fresh and clean, had visible stains on it when we arrived so I think they need to upgrade some of their bedding. Not much privacy in these rooms without blocking out the light, however I was aware of this when booking and it wasn't a problem for us, it's the price you pay to stay in a piece of history.
