Nestled amongst nature lies the hidden sanctuary of Taru Villas Maia. Offering peace and tranquility, we all finally relaxed after a week of tours, frenetic travel and daily jaunts. The rooms have been carefully designed to allow for an immersion natural experience with the only sound being that of the wildlife and the rustle of leaves and trees in the cool air. An architectural delight complimented by the most hospitable team who take care of yourself every need. Delicious organic cuisine, thoughtfully prepared with daily curated delicious menus. Dileesha, Andrew Danial, Tharusha, Chef Pradip and Mahendra made us feel at home. Our only regret- why didn't we stay longer? You simply must stay here, perfectly placed for a sunrise hike to Sigiriya and an afternoon elephant safari. Truly memorable, thank you team Taru Villas Maia.

This is a very special place, I particularly enjoyed our second room that we were moved to, number 17. It was up on stilts and had a gorgeous balcony where we could admire so much wildlife and a huge variety of birds. The food was absolutely delicious and the chef very kindly shared one of his curry recipes with me. I’d like to mention especially Andrew who oversaw our stay with kindness and professionalism, and Thushara, whose warm smile and infectious good humour greeted us at the restaurant every day. The staff here all work so incredibly hard and you are always greeted with a genuine smile.

Perhaps a few more sunbeds and umbrellas at the pool and make chess available for guests!

July 2nd, 2025 Our stay at this beautiful resort has been truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by a sense of serene peace and warmth. The entire team went above and beyond to make us feel at home, with outstanding service and genuine kindness. The safari experience with our ranger from the hotel was a highlight we will cherish forever. Her knowledge, passion and care made it an extraordinary memory. We are also deeply grateful for the compassionate way the resort handled the sudden and heartbreaking passing of my father. Allowing us to adjust our travel plans without hesitation meant the world to us during such a difficult time. A small luxury hotel of the world, this accomodation is nestled in nature - we loved seeing monkeys frolicking in the trees whilst we had our tea in bed in the morning (luxury loose leaf tea!). The shower in the room was one of the best we’ve ever had in a hotel! Relaxing bath too! Lovely pool area overlooking greenery and delicious food at the restaurant which even included palate cleansers at dinner. The staff were also there to guide you in the evenings to the restaurant and back which was such a nice touch (especially being in nature and we’d seen a few snakes about!). They also helped us book our elephant safari and we had a magical time - the driver expertly navigated the park and took us to spots with no other jeeps around.

One thing we thought was a bit shocking is that they didn’t sell any wines by the glass - you had to buy a bottle! There were no other alcoholic beverages sold by the glass other than beer. With such a luxury place you’d expect a gym but they didn’t appear to have one. We loved sitting by the pool but it would have been nice for the staff to come round occasionally to ask if we wanted a drink (we had to get up and go and find someone when we wanted a Coke etc). All quite nitpicky and overall we would definitely recommend Taru Villas!

such a beautiful place to be, relaxed, there is nothing you would miss, the staff was so helpful, always friendly, just excellent, the hotels architecture is amazing, it is easy to get to Polonnaruwa, Sigiriyi, Dambulla, Anuradhapura. A perfect place to start a tour inside the culture triangle and come back to recover in a small paradise at the infinity pool for example. Food is excellent, we recommend especially their homemade Banana Granola and curd, their coconut icecream, their Sri Lankan Feast with different kinds of curry, and a lot of other food.

there is nothing to criticise you just have to know, that a street is close, but it was not disturbing. you do not see anything of the street, you just hear sometimes a little bit

Absolutely everything was stunning, we felt so relaxed here we really didn’t want to leave ! The staff are all lovely , helpful and fun, the staff in the restaurant ( waiting and chef) are so knowledgeable about food and the health benefits. We had great fun trying to guess the flavour of the sorbet every evening ! The food was amazing - a limited menu which changed every evening - you could have the delicious Sri Lankan curries or the western option. The room was stunning - plenty of space , a very comfortable bed and the perfect shower - and a huge bath tub! The grounds were beautiful and very well kept - lots of opportunities to see animals ( black face langurs, chameleons, all kinds of birds etc) . There is a lake about 150m away where if you are very lucky you will see elephants at sunrise/sunset. The pool was a beautiful refreshing interlude to the day - a good size with nice seating around it.

There was nothing I would change

This is your personalized private jungle experience, at the comfort of lavish accommodation which truly respects nature and the environment. it was an amazing getaway, so quite, so peaceful, and the rooms had so much to offer in terms of comfort and amenities. Amazing food with personalized service. A highlight of your day would be encountering those abundant jungle birds and critters, watching the monkeys jump across tree branches, while enjoying the sizable infinity pool. The staff are incredibly polite and friendly.

Amazing hotel in Habarana. The hotel and grounds are beautifully designed and extremely peaceful. Although the hotel was fully booked when we were there, you did not feel like it was at all as it was so peaceful and spread out. The pool is stunning, with the sound of birds all around you, the architecture is incredible and the food amazing, both western and Sri Lankan dishes. The staff are fantastic and are always there when you need, and are extremely friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, being about 40 minutes from Sigiriya Rock and 20 minutes from the national parks. We would definitely come back and stay here again.

Nothing to fault the hotel on.

The outdoor areas are beautifully landscaped and blend perfectly into nature and become a part of it. It is a place of peace and relaxation. Everything is designed to a very high standard, from the villas to the pool and the restaurant area. The materials used are all coordinated. The villas are very spacious and the perfect retreat. They all have by far the best designed outdoor bathroom I saw! The service is excellent from A to Z! I have never experienced this even in 5-star hotels in Germany. You feel very welcome! The food for breakfast and dinner is a perfect mix of traditional and international dishes. Everything is just right here!

The resort is perfectly integrated in the nature with spacious and clean rooms in vintage design. The staff made our stay extremely comfortable with their kindness, generosity and care. This is a place to go for reflection, relaxation and a drop of adventure. It has a beautiful garden, a lovely swimming pool and a peaceful ambiance. We will definitely be returning to Taru Villas. We loved it!
