It was a great experience staying at Kirinuga Boutique Retreat. Renate and Shantha were wonderful, welcoming hosts and Shantha in particular was so helpful when we needed assistance regarding a bite from a local playful puppy. They are both very thoughtful and kind. The grounds are peaceful, calm and quiet and the garden is beautiful. The rooms were very clean and spacious, and the shower was great. The breakfasts were a big hit with the whole family, as was the curry we had one evening. Kirinuga is a short walk along a track so it is away from the road, meaning we heard no traffic noise. The local beach is really picturesque and has multiple beach restaurants. All in all, a great place to stay near to Tangalle.

Based on the pictures on Booking.com and info on the Kirinuga website we were led to believe there were regular yoga sessions within the hotel - this turned out not to be the case. However Renate can organise them if desired.

Lovely grounds, very tranquil, great breakfast, massive bedroom, even larger bathrooms, nearby the beach. Great decor.

Whilst only minor items, it would be great to have had air conditioning as extremely hot in February, I know there was no pool but that would have made it perfect. Due to the design of the windows, they pretty much always open therefore allow in all creature visits and a lot of mosquitoes. Didn’t bother us, but odd thing on arrival was one of our bedrooms weren’t available till after 5pm due to someone wanting to photograph it, so weren’t allowed to use the room for a few hours. There are dogs onsite that bark when they spot things, so sometimes can be a little noisy.

The hotel is really an escape into a serene. There are 3 dogs which are absolutely adorable. The manager is german and is always in for a chat. Breakfast was great (could be a little bit more). It is located just 2 min from the sea and beach. Everything is decorated lovely and meets the induvidual theme of the room. We dtayed in the „shell“ room and you could find shells literally everywhere. :)

Keep in mind that everything is open built - thus you can hear everything. The location is bit far away from the center and you have to walk up the road from the street. The google maps does not show it correctly. It is not bad at all, but it would be nice to know beforehand since it took us a minute to figure out where to go.

Shell room was absolutely stunning! The photos didn’t do it justice - we are so glad we stayed here & had the most relaxing time. Attention to detail was incredible, very clean, lovely warm showers & such a delicious breakfast included. Hosts were so welcoming. Thank you so much Renate! We will definitely be back here again when we return! A very lovely property with the added bonus of 3 friendly dogs and a 1-2 minute walk across from the beach!!!

The hotel is located close to the most beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka (15min by tuk-tuk). Room was nice, garden very beautiful. Good breakfast (different from other Sri Lankan places). Friendly owner and staff.

1. We did not have hot water for shower, not even warm (when raining. solar heating is not enough; you need to tell to owner to switch on the heater, but this option was not available in the evenings, when we needed). 2. Windows have no glass, not even mosquito net (full of insects in bathroom, especially). Though, the bed has mosquito net around it, that helps a little. 3. One dinner that we took on the place was very good, but at European prices (very expensive for Sri Lanka, 2-3 times more than we paid in any other restaurant).

Nice room. Testy food. Breakfast included. Santa is soul of this place. So nice, allways smiling person, very willing and helpfull. ❤️🙏🏼

Rooms don’t have fridge. In our room I missed any chair. Lily, one of dogs there, growls at people, luckily she didn’t bite antone during our stay.

It was not customary to live without a refrigerator and air conditioning, but this habit disappeared after two days. being closer to nature is more important than usual amenities

I actually don’t know where to start. We had such an amazing time at Kirinuga, from entering the gate until our departure! The breakfast was incredible, where can you actually select your breakfast? We had dinner as well, freshly prepared food really good. Great service, great location full of nicely decorated things. Our room was super quiet with a great mattress. One negative point is: We have booked another hotel, unfortunately we needed to leave but we will be back in a few days from now :) highly recommend to stay there!

There was literally nothing to complain about! It was by far our best hotel we have visited in a very long time!

We loved it so much, that we extended our stay. Guess this says it all :) Renate, Santha and their team really made an effort to make our vacation perfect. The included breakfast was so special and delicious, as was the dinner we booked. The huge garden, the sweet dogs, the nature there and the beaches close by... it all makes it the perfect place to spend some relaxing days.

Beautiful bungalow with lovely outdoor bathroom. Gorgeous garden areas with fireflies visible at night. Lovely breakfast and super friendly, helpful staff. Just across the road from the beach

Nothing really but a stay could be made more comfortable with the addition of air con. Fans are ok though.
