We needed a basic, comfortable, clean place for our family of four to stay for a couple of nights in Basel. The Royal was able to offer us a family room with a large double bed, sofa bed and trundle bed. The bedding was clean and very comfortable with the exception of the trundle which had a very thin mattress through which the metal bed frame could be felt. Otherwise, the room was perfect for our needs. Importantly, we had airconditioning which was essential in the hot weather. We appreciated being able to open the windows and the good options of external sun shading blinds as well as internal blackout curtains. Reception had limited hours, but the self check process was easy to follow and went smoothly. The hotel helped us out with a travel adaptor when we discovered that our European adaptors didn't fit in Swiss power points. We also appreciated the complementary water and beverages in the mini fridge. In general, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location was very central and easy to get around anywhere in Basel using the free Basel travel card supplied by the hotel. We would recommend this hotel.

Quite uncomfortable trundle bed.

Royal hotel is located near the train station and is easily accessible to the Basel Congress center. I booked this hotel for business travel and the staff (Gisele) was very kind to accommodate my early arrival by ensuring a very early check-in. The room was clean, spacious, calm, and equipped with all necessary items. Although the room windows were in front of tram station, but it was very well isolated.

Absence of espresso’s capsules, and water bottles. The furniture and decor in general is a little bland The waiting area at the reception is extremely small It appeared to be a 3 stars hotels (and not 4)

It was a very satisfying stay for us. Right from the check-in, everything was perfect here. Special mention about Katie at the reception who was very courteous, helpful and friendly, and also got our room ready well ahead of our check-in time. The best value for money option in Basel, with amazing access to public transport, museums and all the hotspots (it's right opposite Basel Bad station and the tram stop for tram lines 2 & 6 that take you to the centre and beyond). The room was chic, big, convenient, had a nespresso machine, a lovely bath and a balcony overlooking the train station. The lobby also played 90s rock music 24/7, which I loved. There's no staff post 3 pm at the front desk, but it was safe going in and out with the access card. Overall, a perfect stay in the lovely city of Basel. I would definitely go back.

I loved the room, being a mixture of old and new. It was spacious for 3 of us. We paid for breakfast and it was outstanding. The amazing receptionist, Katie, fetched fresh croissants and pain au chocolat and cooked us fresh bacon and scrambled eggs using top quality products. Beautiful fresh fruits and berries. Outstanding. Really lovely hotel and katie was brilliant at her job, friendly and made everything very easy. The royal hotel need to ensure they keep this asset.

It would have been nice to have had free parking, but the discounted parking was in line with what I expected for a European inner city.

The hotel room was clean and comfortable, but the receptionist was superb. She gave us such thorough information about our stay in Basel that we were really able to make the most of our stay. It's rare to find someone so helpful! The Basel card was superb and the hotel is easy to get to from the airport and right near the trams /trains / buses.

It was a little noisy at night, lots of loud music nearby. Also, roadworks drilling started at 7am, so a late night because of music and early morning because of roadworks. But, neither were the hotel's fault.

I was very impressed by the easy check-in, and the first impression was that the whole place was very clean, lovely spacious room with good housekeeping, so towels etc was cleaned and a fresh one replaced. There are plenty of sockets for use and storage space for clothes, etc. Very good value for money and a brilliant location for my needs. Close to the train station, trams and bus. There was even a McDonald's across the road win win!

The soap dispenser was a strange thing to use.

Location was easy accessible, right along the boulevard you could get to city center by foot in 20min. Room was spacious and clean and they were waiting for us with a city pass for all 3 of us which was amazing because we could travel for free using buses and trams when we got tired of walking and we also had half price entrance at museums and Basel zoo. It was a really nice suprise.

Pillows were really deflated, I had to use 2 at a time, bed wasn't the most comfortable but considering value for money it was still a great stay.

The hotel is located right next to one of the railway stations in Basel, yet it is in a quiet area. In addition to the trains, there are many public transport stops near the hotel, making it very easy and quick to reach the city center. This is further enhanced by the free transport card provided by the hotel. The room is spacious, exceptionally clean, and equipped with everything necessary for a longer stay. There is a coffee machine, a kettle, and a fridge, and besides the bed, there is also a comfortable sofa. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

The location is perfect. It is easy to travel to the exhibition centre (walking distance, or you can take the tram) and it is next to the Basel Badischer Bahnhof (German railway station). The tram station and bus stations are right outside which would take you to all the major Basel attractions. Even if you are coming from Basel SBB station, the hotel is also easy to reach via tram. The staff were warm and helpful. The breakfast prepared was wonderful. The room was clean, and beds were comfortable. (Despite the hotel being close to the stations, it was not noisy.) We enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

Everything is good!

My girlfriend and I celebrated our 6th anniversary at the Royal Hotel in Basel, and it was a perfect experience. The staff thoughtfully arranged a rooftop suite with a terrace and a bathtub, which made our stay extra special. The hotel lobby also offers free coffee, which was a nice touch. Everything was smooth and comfortable, and we truly felt welcomed. We’ll definitely come back on our next visit to Basel!
