The room was huge and lovely furnishings etc. Coffee/tea making on each floor as well as fresh water and fruit. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The local church bells ring the time all the night!... Makesure you ask for a room on the other side of the hotel if you are a light sleeper!

Staff were fantastic - welcoming, and throughout the week continued to check everything was ok. Breakfast is great, although the grandeur of the main restaurant was saved until the final morning - it’s a big upgrade from the front cafe area. Great choices of food though. (It was included in my rate, 30 CHF would be a lot to add on every day for breakfast). It ran til 11am every day due to Eurovision which was a nice touch from the hotel. Room well appointed - and coffee, tea, still/sparkling water (with carafes) and apples available on every floor.

Expensive! Could use a fridge in the room. The cupboard shower took a little getting used to, but was fine.

Everything! This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Beautifully designed with a real modern flair that stands it apart from the run of the mill corporate feel of so many hotels. Spotlessly clean and the attention to detail is outstanding. From lovely glass tumblers in the room as opposed to the ubiquitous plastic water bottle, to the drinks station on each floor where you can help yourself to tea, coffee, fruits and on tap sparkling or still water which you can decant into a glass carafe and take into your room. The breakfast choice is wide and delicious. Recommend the scrambled eggs which are so easy to get wrong in a hotel- superb! The staff are polite, welcoming and efficient. The hotel also provides a free travel card for use on all public transport in Basel during your stay. All in all, a must stay hotel.

The location was great and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. We loved the water/ coffee station and started each day with a coffee and an Apple. We liked the style of the rooms and of the hotel generally. There is a tram stop 1 minute away, it’s a short walk into town and there are supermarkets really close by.

As others have said, the rooms are quite hot and it doesn’t seem possible to turn the heating down. It is quite noisy if you open the windows. We were at the back but there were concerts on in the Volkshaus every night and at the weekends they went on until well after midnight. This meant that we couldn’t open the window until after they had finished.

The Room design , the beds are comfy, the breakfast was good with huge variety, location , the staff are very friendly, helpful and hospital specially ( Dragos and Naiara),

Allot of sound disturbance coming from horns sound The sound of church bells opposite to the hotel every 30 minutes which disturbs continuous sleeping, No fridge in the room so I kept my Diabetes medications and injections in the reception and used to go there whenever it’s needed, No available parking and need to go the nearby parking, last but not least there are No clothes cabinets in the rooms( No wardrobe available).

Apart from heating inconvenience (see below), everything else was excellent. Historical building with well preserved original features (e.g. wooden windows). Interior design reflects the simplicity of the original purpose: not ostentatious, but very good quality. Very nice staff, very good breakfast. Swiss trademark: public transport card with museum discounts in exchange for the local tax (I did not need to use, I was walking, but it was still a nice complement).

Room heating settings are made in a way that you can only steer the required temperature within a certain range. The lower bar of the range (minimal temperature) is 19.5 degrees Celsius, which is too high for a good sleep at night and makes the air very dry (I had sore throat waking up in the morning), even if you open up all windows wide before sleep to let fresh air in. + A bit noisy late in the evening due to musical rehearsals on the ground floor, and wooden windows are not noise proof.

We stayed in a Junior suite (Room 112). It was beautifully furnished & very spacious, with huge windows overlooking the pretty interior courtyard. The entrance opens into a dressing area with a bathroom & separate toilet to the right, and to the left the main room consists of a very comfortable large bed, plus a seating & dining area. The 2 areas can be separated by a huge curtain. The fixtures & fittings are high quality & stylish, and the whole suite was immaculately clean. The hotel has a great bar & restaurant with very attentive staff.

There is a drinks station on the bedroom corridor for tea & coffee etc which is fine, but given the choice I would have preferred to have facilities in the room, but it's not really an issue.

Beautiful architecture and interior design was supreme! Close to GrosBasel (old town) and close to great cafes for breakfast, and pubs for after dinner.

Staff were helpful when asking about extra pillows or towels etc. Very quick to respond. But I felt did not go out of there way to help with dinner places or sightseeing or general conversation about Basel. Staff mixed up our dinner reservations at their own hotel restaurant - so we never got to sit in their lovely outdoor terrace. They apologized

The decor was smooth and clean. The front disk was helpful, respectful and generous. The bathroom was beautiful with excellent design. The whole room was massive with an incredible view. Free coffee, and the breakfast was excellent. Freshly cooked eggs. Yum! Incredible and handsome bartender as well with sexy accent who knew his cocktails. Amazing.

We didn't know what to do with the little alcohol bottle. Realised too late it's bitters after we tried to take a sip lol. Could have been a little bottle of whisky, but this is nitpicking. It was expensive but we knew that before we committed so it wasn't a surprise. For the price however, it's worth every penny.

Location is great - really near the river. Building is great and rooms look stylish and rooms are cool (big bonus during a heat wave). Staff are helpful. Breakfast was good - nice fresh food and good fresh omelettes.

Pillows were weirdly terrible - lumpy and thin. Felt very out of keeping with the rest of the place. Also somewhat weird that the restaurant and bar were closed during August, even though the hotel explained that this is low season for them.
