I am not a fan of the remote check in using an iPad, with no reception staff present. The guest is left to enter all the relevant details and then load the key card. The room number is allocated and advised by email and it was not obvious how to get more than one room close to one another. This system is fine if you are tech savvy and the process is straightforward, if not, you’re required to ring the helpline. The hotel is situated close to trams and buses and is a 25 minute walk from the main railway station or quicker by tram. We obtained a complimentary travel pass by contacting the hotel, this for the duration of the stay. The hotel is close to restaurants and bars and was quite noisy at night time and in the early hours. Having said this, the hotel was clean and comfortable. There was a fridge and a safe. A communal room is offered and hot drinks are available 24/7 free of charge. There is a vending machine selling alcohol and soft drinks. Croissants and fruit are offered daily, again free of charge, and the savoury seeded croissants are delicious. The hotel was more expensive than those which I stayed in, in Geneva and Zurich and of a similar standard. The breakfast was not listed as being included, so it was a bonus and well worth having. I would recommend Hotel Merian am Rhine.

The check in system.

Location is awesome with an amazing view to the river, great public transportation - connection to several tram lines just some 50 meter away from yoy, and a very tasty coffee (really tasty) and croissance in the mornings, included to the fee, amazing view from that dining area. Maybe a bit loud in the evenings, there is some night club in the neighborhood I suppose - people just have fun and can be loud. But overall experience is good, for Basel for that price I was lucky to get the room, although it was small - no place for yoga for me, I feel it is a good compromise compared to alternative options

Maybe I could get a double bed as it was described, but since the system was told I was on my own, it gave me a small room with a single bed, which is not I would usually choose. And since you don't have a stuff, you just deal with it. I would ask for a double room, even when I travel alone - I like big comfy bed.

Check in was very easy and validated the blank card to then become our room key was easy ( we made 2) it was only next day I realized I hadn't got the 'basel card ' usually given out at manned receptions. There was a staff member around in the morning/ breakfast lounge. He told me I should have received an email after check in and it has a QR code to show for discounts around basel and free trams etc . I didn't get this email ??? However, he printed 2 out for us. The 24h coffee machine is great and complimentary croissants.....but get down early for them. The superior room had the most wonderful views of gross basel and river rhein. Seems no air conditioning but windows open for fresh air. Put the sign out before 10 for cleaning. We just asked for new towels as stated 4 days .....

Not always anybody around if coffee machine needs attention. Was a little noisy late Friday night as people hang near the river. Silicone ear plugs always packed 😂😂 Staff lovely when u see them

The location was great The coffee machine works 24/7 and you can make coffee or tea We checked in in the evening and the room was very cold (heating didn’t work properly). We contacted them via phone. Initially they insisted they can’t do anything and they don’t have another room available. After a lot of push from my side and many calls back and forth, they found a room and transferred us in a room with the best view of the Rhine and proper heating.

You dont see anyone at the hotel like a reception which feels a little bit distant and when you have a problem you cannot ask directly someone

The location was perfect. Easy access to the river, Congress and food. The decoration is practical and has all that we need including a fan. The lounge’s simple coffee, croissant and apple is just nice for breakfast. The hotel offer free Basel pass to use the public transport. My friend forget her wallet with cards and some foreign currencies in the safe. We contacted the staff and they kept it for us and it was returned with everything still intact. Thank you for your professionalism and integrity. We are very grateful. 🙏🏻

The pillow and bed is a bit too soft. There is no kettle to cook hot water but we can get hot water from the lounge.

Location is perfect with public transports. Croissants are so good. Room are fine, standard , clean. Good for energetic person.

Did not meet anyone to ask simple question or request for extra item or report any occurance. Contact can be done only online via email or via hotel app, which I personally think is not necessary to type and wait for the reply and read on MB. Uncomfortable if you are not keen on tecnology. Difficult with heavy luggages as there are stairs to go up the lobby.

Amazing view from my room of the river and bridge. Very good location, the tram stops right outside, I liked the communal room and found the check-in/out process very simple.

I didn’t receive the Basel Card at first and had to email the team for this, but they did respond very quickly. I also think the overall value for money is not there as rooms need updating in particular the hairdryer in the bathroom which is not very powerful or worth using.

The Merian Hotel in Basel, located right by the Rhine, offers a prime spot for short stays, especially if you're into swimming and biking. The self-check-in process is seamless and efficient, perfect for those looking for a quick, hassle-free experience. The hotel's proximity to the Rhine makes it ideal for outdoor activities, and it's conveniently situated for exploring the city by bike.

Being on Basel's party mile, it can get a bit noisy, especially in the evenings. Overall, it's a great option for active travellers who don’t mind some night time energy from the city.

Self-check in and the hotel has a room with hot drinks and fruit available 24/7. In the morning, they also have available croissants and fruit for free.

They could have given me a room with a view of the river, the hotel was not full so I believe this was not a problem. I booked a room for 2 with 2 beds and one of the beds was the sofa. When I looked for a hotel They had single beds available, so I don't understand why we need to have a sofa bed! Was just this two things that I didn't like in my stay!
