This was a halfway stopping point between Italy and Germany. It was a convenient place to stop right after the Gottardo Tunnel. It was easy to find. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived after 8:30 pm, when the kitchen closed, so we missed dinner, but they made us a lovely sandwich and served us some beer. There was a lovely patio terrace with a nice view. The breakfast was served in the updated modern restaurant.

Be aware that if you arrive after 8:30 pm there is no other place to eat in the area. If you are a tall person (188 cm/6’2”) be aware that the ceiling of our room was so low that my husband only cleared it by a centimeter or so. Anyone over that height will not be very comfortable. We were surprised that despite being an old wooden building, there was no smoke detector in the room.

First, I don’t usually give tens, but Hotel Gerig and their staff more than deserve it. They made our one-night stay exceptionally pleasant. Already at reception we immediately felt at home. When asked about a possible walk to take he went outside with us to show the way. Two other staff members were extremely nice to my 6-year old. The hotel is very nicely decorated with art and pictures all over. The restaurant has excellent evening food and breakfast and looks as welcoming as the rest. On top of that the bedroom was great! Easy to reach from Göschenen by bus (stop Wassen Dorf)

The staff were very friendly. The location was very nice. The hotel felt like a ski resort - in a good way. The food at breakfast was fantastic!! In particular, the croissants were the best I have ever had!! Note: Our particular hotel room had very low ceilings, which could be an issue for tall people.

The hotel is in a good location for exploring the area. It has a small minimarket within 1min of the door. Good continental breakfast served. The lunch and evening meals are excellent and reasonably priced so that you can use every night without the need to drive around for meals. Also, very comfortable seating to relax and enjoy a drink. The owners and staff are excellent, very friendly, and knowledgeable on the local area and weather. Only downside was that the room stayed warm during hot weather.

Lots of work men sitting around outside. Breakfast was functional and acceptable, but workmen seem to take rolls from the buffet to have later, which meant baskets empty. Also no hot options for breakfast (but work men somehow got bacon in their rolls??)

Wassen is small but this hotel more than fit our needs. It is located right on the Trans Swiss hiking trail #2, and next to the grocery store, also a plus. We got the triple room to benefit from a private bathroom, so the room was spacious on top of being comfortable. The real hotel gem was its restaurant. The food was delicious, and the owners take great care not only in preparing the food, but also caring for their guests There were also nicely furnished common rooms for those who might be traveling in a group. Breakfast has everything we needed and set us off on the right foot for the day's hike.

Nothing to mention. Perhaps if one of us was 6'5", the ceiling in the bedroom might have felt a bit low, but it was not a concern for us.

The hotel is modern with wonderful decor and fantastic artwork created by the owner. The room was very spacious with a separate section off the main bedroom for our son. The beds were really comfortable and generally the hotel was very clean and well presented. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Freshly prepared meals with ingredients from their own garden which was a lovely touch. There is a play area for kids and lovely surroundings.

Breakfast was amazing!! The Chef makes her own yogurt and jellies/jams, applesauce- all delicious!! The staff were all super friendly. The owner stopped by our table every morning at breakfast to ask how we are doing. He is very gregarious and kind!

The parking situation was a bit challenging, but nothing we couldn't manage.

Charming hotel and restaurant with exceptional food. My room was clean and comfortable, and staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is ideal for exploring the Gotthard Pass and its incredible railways.

Low ceilings made me watch my head!

Great location near entrance to St Gottard tunnel so you can beat the queues. Comfortable room (slightly low on 2nd floor but I am very tall). On site bar, restaurant. Restaurant prices expensive but it's Switzerland I guess! Food quality really good, great breakfast. Residents lounge with games and books. Will return.

Just slight niggle. If you are very tall like me ask not to be on the 2nd floor.
