Pens is a little hidden oasis. It's away from the party scene ...but it's the old Thailand which unfortunately seems to be slowly eroding into every homogenised resort holiday . Don't come here for the glitz and glamour . Come here for one of the cleanest beaches and old school village feel. I don't think will last too long . The locals are lovely ...food is fresh and cheap and it's basic . But in a world that's slowly losing its authenticity ...Pens still holds its proud Thai roots . Thanks Mrs Pen..I hope you keep that mantle burning a little while longer .

Pen's is a great little bungalow resort on Thong Nai Pan Yai beach. We stayed for a week and had a bungalow right on the beach with a beautiful tropical almond tree out front giving heaps of shade for people wanting to relax on the beach. The views were stunning and it was a very quick walk up the road where there are plenty of local places to eat and drink, lots of really good and cheap Thai food as well as some places that offered a more 'western' style. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants along the beach. It's a really chilled out area. The beach dogs were a highlight also for us, keeping people company on the beach, and joining us for walks sometimes. The resort also has a few gorgeous cats that they look after extremely well. The staff were very helpful, attending to any issues promptly and organising transport into town or to the pier. We had some good food at Pen's as well as at other places, especially Dolphin bungalows down the eastern/southern end which does excellent Som Tum and soups.

The room was clean and had comfortable mattresses. It had a good shower in the bath and hot water. The air conditioning worked well and wasn't particularly noisy. The food at Pen's is outstanding and was the strongest feature of our stay. We loved the beach and area that it's located in. The staff were helpful and the cleaning team did a wonderful job keeping our bungalow spick and span every other day.

It was impossible to sleep after 8/8.30am due to banging noise and motorbikes or quad bikes. The swimming pool needs repairing (e.g. tiles have come off the floor of the pool) and the area around the pool wasn't kept very clean. Smoking is allowed around the pool so it's impossible to escape the smell in quite a small area. The ashtrays were often left overflowing, empty beer bottles and cans were strewn around along with other rubbish and old towels just left around this area.

Nice hotel. We rested for 6 nights. Almost all expectations have been fulfilled. There were almost no unpleasant surprises. The staff is helpful, even in the morning they warmed up the food they bought on 7/11 in the evening. They gave me water. We cleaned up every other day, but that's enough. There is a transfer to the pier, the price for two is 660 baht, but we were traveling alone in the car. The location is great, everything is within walking distance. It's not the first time we've vacationed on Ton Nai Pan Yai, so we knew where we were going. But we arrived when there was a cyclone, and Phangan was flooded with rain for 3 days. And therein lay the problem.

We lived in triple room 108. And every day, while it was raining, frogs were screaming behind the back wall of the house from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. It wasn't just a croak, it was a howl. This is the first time we've heard this in our lives. Therefore, during the rains, we do not recommend taking rooms 104 to 110.

The forest style setting was beautiful. We loved the hammock outside and the decking area. We love how close it was to the beach. The decor was simple, rustic and had real character. A beautiful quieter corner of Koh Phangan. The cleaners did a great job cleaning. Shower was warm and there was decent pressure.

When we first arrived the doors to the bungalow were wide open which was unusual as normally it would make sense to close the doors and keep the flies out. The air conditioning system was permanently on (we couldn't get it to shut off) which was fine during the day but at night time I wore leggings and fluffy socks as it was super cold. The sink plug did not plug properly.

We had a room behind the swimming pool, but just a few steps and we were on the beach in a beautiful bay. I can understand why a lot of families choose to stay here because of the quiet location(no party scene) and you have to walk a while into the sea before it becomes deep. The room was simple, but had everything we needed. Good bed and the AC was great. We were pleased with the shuttle bus service to collect us from the boat, the driver was waiting for us on arrival. We found the older lady on reception Moo, to be very helpful, we always inquired after her before we got down to business! We rented a scooter from the hotel, which was great, but I found the hairpin bends on very steep roads to be quite hair raising! But it was a great way to see the other side of the island. There are plenty of nice places to eat on the beach, but the village is small and not a lot to do. I think next time I would stay on the other side of the island, although Thoh Nai Pang Yai has the most beautiful beach, I found the steep roads a bit of a problem, although everyone recommended renting a scooter! We only stayed 3 nights, but it would have been nicer to stay a night longer to enjoy the beach.

We didn’t use the facilities from the hotel, as it looked a bit messy, could do with some TLC. But friends were staying in a hotel further up the beach, and we ate with them at their hotel.

The resort is exactly on the beach and the beach itself is very nice and big. We stayed at 3 different spots on the island and found that to be on of the best beaches overall and a great place to stay. Especially at night the beach is very cozy with many nice restaurants on it. The resort also has a nice pool with sea view and a restaurant on the beach. Right behind the hotel you can rent a motorbike.

The AC wasn’t working very well so it was always which is fine for the price and the great location on the beach, but the towels and sheets seemed a little used so it might be good to change them soon as that makes a big difference for the quality. You 100% need a motorbike to explore the island as taxis are extremely expensive and the hotel is a little far away from other cool spots on the island on the west coast. Still with motorbike it could be like a 30 minute ride to the other side.

The bungalow was cosy, nicely decorated, with a nice outside patio. The location on the beach was very good. This beach/sea is good for swimming during the entire day, in August. On the west coast the tide is low until the afternoon during this month at least.

The staff was not always approaching us friendly. That made it a bit less comfortable. In general in Thailand the people are much more hospitable.

The beach that Pen’s Bungalows is on is one of the best on Koh Pha Ngan. And I’ve seen almost all of them. We opted for the cheapest room - fan only - which at a little over 1000 THB was fine, as the room covers all the basics. However, spend 2000 THB and you can get a great room, with bath etc. Our friend did and her pad was sweeet! Much better for a couple too.

Our fan only room was quite dark (only one light and one in the bathroom), and it heats up fast. The patio hammock is a nice touch but ours could have used a wash. For some the relative isolation of this particular beach might be a factor but if you rent a scooter - and you’re brave - you’re fine. Also there’s a shuttle to the main pier available which is cheap as long as you have a group of 3 or more. Restaurant is nothing to write home about but there are other options nearby.

We had the room Right on the beach. Clean and comfortable.Great food at the restaurant. Some of the staff were clearly tired of tourists. The younger ones were polite.

The bed covers. Sounds petty, but I would make a big difference if they had a cover over the blanket. It would have been nice if they could have turned on the aircon and fridge before our arrival. We had them collect us from the Pier and the driver didn’t speak, it would have been nice if there could have been some communication…like point out where the markets are and waterfalls ect.
