Having visited Koh Chang multiple times over the years, my wife and I have become quite familiar with the island and its many accommodations. This time, returning to The Stage in Kai Bae Beach with two close friends, we were eager to revisit the resort and introduce them to this scenic gem as the holiday season kicks off. The Stage has a mix of rustic charm and understated elegance that draws you in, complemented by one of the best locations in Kai Bae. Location & Ambience The Stage’s location is a definite highlight. Set just off the main road, it’s close enough to access the area’s best dining spots, convenience stores, and bars, yet tucked away enough to feel like an oasis. The nearby Kai Bae Beach is an easy walk away and is known for its calm waters and relaxed vibe. Despite its central location, the resort has a wonderfully secluded feel, surrounded by lush greenery and a view of the surrounding hills. Room Comfort & Amenities The rooms at The Stage strike a good balance between simplicity and comfort, with plenty of wood accents and a minimalist, natural design that fits in well with the island atmosphere. They’re well-equipped for a few weeks’ stay, though don’t expect lavish frills—think more "laid-back tropical cabin" than "high-end resort." Our room had all the basics: air-conditioning, comfortable beds, and a clean, modern bathroom. The housekeeping staff were efficient and friendly, and the room was kept in top shape throughout our stay. Breakfast & Dining One of the small pleasures of the day at The Stage is breakfast. There’s a decent selection with both Western and Thai options, giving a bit of variety day to day. You can enjoy scrambled eggs, toast, rice soup, and even Thai stir-fried dishes to start the day. While we certainly appreciated the selection, the absence of yogurt was a bit of a letdown, especially for those of us who enjoy it with fruit or muesli.

The Drawback: Rainy Days & Wooden Pathways Now, onto the one real drawback of The Stage: the wooden pathways. The resort has a network of wooden walkways winding around the property, which are charming and very much in line with the natural feel of the place. However, they become quite hazardous in the rain. I’ve witnessed a fair few people slip, and even a couple of minor injuries due to how slick the wood becomes when wet. I’d advise the management to consider some form of treatment or grip surfacing on the pathways, as it’s an issue worth addressing, particularly for older guests or those with young children.

We had a great stay here. The room is quite spacious and the location of the hotel is just perfect. You have everything you need in walking distance which was really pleasant. The pool was also quite nice. They have multiple options but we always stayed at the big pool in the center. We went swimming everyday and were the only ones using the pool which was really nice. They could add a little more seating/sunbathing options around this area. The breakfast was also quite enjoyable. Fairly small and very little options but the bread was awesome.

Our bathroom wasn’t clean at all. I didn’t say anything but the toilet was so dirty I couldn’t believe it! The shampoo and soap dispensers were empty. The only big negative about our stay was the communication before we came here. I had a question about scooter rental options and they were quite rude from the beginning. I wasn’t able to cancel my stay anymore, but because of their disrespectful behavior towards me as a customer, I didn’t feel comfortable coming here anymore. A real shame but at least we had a pleasant stay:)

We loved our stay at The Stage. The room was spacious, very well cleaned with a nice view from the balcony. The construction of the buildings looks fragile, but it was actually even soundproof - we did not hear any night music inside. The location is also nice, 7 mins to the beach. We see people complaining about breakfast here - we have an advice for you, buy feta cheese for 150 baht in Big C and ham for another 150 and you will then have the most amazing breakfasts becouse this hotel has their own bakery!!! You cannot get fresh bread in 7/11.

I did not like that they only use disposable plates during breakfast - this needs to be changed! Not eco-friendly at all even tho the plates were from paper.

- beautiful hotel, I loved the atmosphere, the decoration, etc - breakfast is really good with eggs, variety of breads, fresh fruits. - everything is clean (daily cleaning if you want and the communal areas were super clean) - the staff is professional and polite - the rooms are big, with everything you need (fridge, storage place, AC, fan, hot shower,...) - nice individual bungalow even if you get the cheapest option - if you want to be close to the tourist restaurants and bars, you have everything nearby. It is also 3 minutes walking from 7/11 - beautiful swimming pool - we loved the code system instead of a key card, it is super convenient!

- some features in the rooms were poorly executed (the faucet splashing all the time because it is too far from the sink) - no electric outlet at all near the beds or in the bathroom, only one next to the fridge, which is a little annoying to charge your phone at night - it is a busy and very touristy area, so it's hard to find some nice local food to our taste.

This is a reasonable property with good sized rooms, decent storage, comfortable beds and linen, good air con and good sized fridge. I didn’t use the pool as it was too cool but it looked nice. Staff were great although when I asked Trainee to order a taxi she told me to stand on the side of the road with my luggage and hail one :/

No tea/coffee facilities, only one power socket under TV (need one next to the bed and in the bathroom). Better lighting, way too dim in both the bedroom and bathroom. Tapware in shower & on vanity needs fixing or replacing. Despite enjoying the nice big windows, I did feel like I was in a fishbowl with privacy plus the timber was so noisy every time someone walked past. Only good English movies channels were dubbed in another language. I didn’t mind the breakfast, basic but the paper plates were just weird.

Located in central Kai Bae, it was easy to go around and eat whatever you want when you get hungry. Having several pools were also nice as we were traveling with a toddler. The room was spacious, equipped minimum but with everything you need. We had to buy a soap as it was not provided but I think it was temporarily out since they had other amenities available. It’s definitely worth the money. We in fact to came back to stay three more days here as we didn’t find anywhere better. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a very pleasant stay, thank you!

Pools could be cleaned more often, there were leaves and branches etc floating too much time to time.

The location was fantastic, 2 lovely beaches within a few minutes walking distance, plenty of bars, restaurants and shops nearby but still a very quiet peaceful place to stay. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.

We had read in the comments that the breakfast was 7 eleven style sandwiches with fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, instant coffee and Lipton tea. This is true but as we were expecting it it was fine, especially as it was included in the very reasonable price. We didn't use the pool as the beaches were so beautiful but it looked fine and was cleaned daily. Sunbeds next to the pool would have been nice instead of plastic chairs

Breakfast was exceeding all my expectations with every morning as many scrambled, fried or omelet style fresh baked eggs. A buffet where every morning you will find fresh lettuce plus superb dressing, still warm from the oven: tiny but tasty white and brown baguettes. Muesli or rather cornflakes? You name it, they serve it. Toppling your breakfast off with every morning a new tropical fruit surprise salad. Owh, and then there's of course the coffee. Not in particular a run of the mill kinda coffee machine. Whether you choose americano, café latte, expresso and the list goes on....== It's key ingredient of this machine are these, after you made your choice, being crushed coffee beans. About its staff: Omg, from the countless resorts I've witnessed in Thailand: "The stage" seems in retro perspective not some randomly chosen name. "With us the customer as the main character(s)." Whether the staff truly cares about us? or its all just a "play"? or actually all indeed meant sincere? Truly impressive as dedicated and serious as they all seem to took their "role". From morning chef, cleaning ladies, gardener, receptionist, when paying attention all in every detail behaving considered while spreading around this sense of being welcome, kind hearted vibe. Their many ozon pools they offer are, despite the tropical heat, all without exception kept refreshing cool. Kai Bae: with its beautiful white sandy beach is land inward surrounded with the shade from all kind of grown up tree's. When sitting on its clean white sand you are witnessing in all directions rocky/tree covered islands. An amazing view. This beach you find just 5 minutes walk across the street from this resort. This area not by coincident offers the upmost. Within a radius of 10 minutes walk you find: countless restaurants,3 supermarkets, laundry, motorbike services. Yes, even a Dental Clinic with high standards though charges normal Thai prices.

Location was great. Good restaurants were nearby. Pools were nice and clean. Bookshelf was a big plus! Keyless rooms were handy.

Rooms were damp and the beds were damp. One sheet had mold in it but we got a new one when asked. Breakfast was repetitious; bread, rice, cereal, boiled eggs and fruit. All in all it was okay. Walls are thin, we could hear neighbours clearly. There was no hand soap and no trash bin in living area.

Nice staff. I stayed in the king size room with balcony. Nice warm lighting, curtains that actually shut out the light (it's rare enough to deserve mentioning), AC + a fan and functioning mosquito screens. Great that the hotel gives reusable glass water bottles and has refillable soap dispensers. Breakfast had limited choice (bread, jam, scrambled eggs, a bit of fruit..) but it was good (esp. the sourdough buns). All in all a very nice stay, thanks!
