What a hidden gem this hotel is!! It’s situated in the middle of the countryside. We arrived to a warm welcome from the Manager who showed us to our room and what a beautiful room it was, over looking the countryside. The room was immaculate with a large comfortable bed, so quiet, we slept so well. Great power shower including all the extras you’d expect from a 5 star hotel. Our evening meal was superb, great menu. Breakfast did not disappoint either great selection and cooked to perfection. We can honestly say that there was nothing we could pick fault in and we can’t wait to return in the Spring. Great base for visiting the races at Newbury and Highclere Castle. Thank you to you all for making our stay so magical.

Absolutely nothing to fault.

Very modern and new facilities in the rooms. good location and plenty of parking.

The staff were quite unhelpful during our stay. We felt as if they were always too busy to help us with any queries. There was also no information about breakfast or dinner options and the pub was fully booked with non-guests for lunch and dinner which was rather frustrating.

This is a beautiful spot, possibly one of the best places in the world to take a dog for a walk. The pub itself is a delight. The staff so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much bother. The food was wonderful - we had lunch and dinner there and it was all delicious. The nibbles, popcorn cauliflower, tempura prawns, chicken skewers. And the steak and the burger were both lovely. Don’t forget to eat a lot of the fries and the naughty mash!!! The wine list is also incredible. The dog friendly accommodation next to a courtyard with a cosy covered firepit area would be lovely at any time of the year. With the rugs and sheepskin to sit on it was fantastic to have a drink there before (and after) dinner with the open log fire going. So many nice touches, I can’t list them all. But it is unequivocally the best dog friendly pub/hotel we have stayed at, we will go back. We had breakfast and lunch outside on the terrace overlooking the duckpond, the local is so quite and peaceful and idyllic you can’t believe it.

Nothing, it was perfect.

Perfect location; welcoming and accommodating staff; room appointed to a luxury standard; breakfast choices were extensive and well-cooked; dinner was high-end restaurant quality; drinks menu was extensive; very warm and convivial atmosphere in the bar and restaurant; surroundings idyllic - beautiful country village.

The country lanes in reaching the location were narrow requiring forensic attention around each bend, but only a few miles so worth the concentration. Lighting in room was a bit on the low side - dimmer switches with brighter top-end would have been better for us; twin beds comfy, but single duvet could have been a bit wider

Comfortable bed, and room. We were never made to feel unwelcome with our dog, in fact the staff made a fuss of her. It was a big plus to be able to take our dog to the excellent restaurant with us, obviously not everyone would think this is a good point, but it was for us.

A small fridge in our room would have been good - we had pet food, but had to throw it away as it went off. Also, although we were given milk in an iced pot, for our tea, it still turned sour, because the room was so warm.

It was the most beautiful place. Our room was exceptional and we couldn't have been happier. The view from our room was breathtaking. We could have sat with our drinks and gazed out all day

It's so hard to find anything wrong at all. From a ladies point of view I could have done with one mirror that had better lighting as it wasn't easy to do my make up, but that's the only niggle I had and certainly would not stop me coming back

The room had so many thoughtful little extras, a dog friendly welcome pack, mini treats and plenty of drinks and water, all lovely little touches. The outside space and furnishings were very cutesy too!

The car park is opposite the accommodation with no lights, when arriving late at night in the dark and torrential rain it was hard work unloading all my bags and furpanion so far from the premises. Not suitable for mobility issues and quite slippery outside in the dark!

Breakfasts were excellent, as indeed were evening meals. Room was large and well equipped, really nice rural views in all directions. Those views reflected the location, deep in picturesque countryside.

"Deep in picturesque countryside" = "could have done with satnav to find it on the first evening!". No real complaints about this though. Although the name should have provided us with a rather large clue, we didn't actually appreciate the extent to which dog owners were catered for. It didn't present us with a problem though, all dogs very well behaved.

Our 2 night stay in a spacious double room called The Jack Russell with large on-suite bathroom. Staff very pleasant. Marina from Nepal was a pleasure to talk to and very helpful.Great variety of choices on breakfast menu. Pub welcoming and cosy in beautiful, peaceful country surroundings. A great place to be for Xmas or New Year I can imagine. Highly recommend.

Cornish Haddock on the dinner menu was tasteless, so I left most of it. When asked if all OK, I told the waiter who said, "Would you like anything else?" I said no, he apologised but no offer of discount so very expensive meal of a few chips and peas for me. The only blip on an otherwise fantastic stay.

A perfect weekend away in the peaceful countryside! Such a lovely pub, good selection of drinks... dinner was incredible!! The staff were lovely and our room was incredible. Tucked away in a small courtyard, a really good size room, super comfy bed, overlooking fields at the back, the bathroom had a lovely bath which I soaked in for an hour with a glass of bubbles - just perfect! A perfect stay (and we loved chatting to all the locals, whilst watching the rugby on the Saturday night).

The only slight downfall was the breakfast... sausages undercooked and the quality wasn't quite what we hoped. But the dinner was so outstanding, it didn't overshadow the stay.
