It was in the centre of town with a bar and restaurant with availability for single travellers. Staff were so friendly and helpful, loads of fee water with ice up until midnight ( we stayed during a heatwave). Excellent quality tea and coffee in the rooms with plenty of milk sachets and biscuits. Free view TV and comfy beds. Full size, good brand hairdryer with nozzle.

Only that the room was I guess an old stable or barn converted so no windows and in 34 degrees my heated towel rail had no control on it and was wired directly into the wall….bathroom was like a sauna….I had hot toothpaste….I did report it when I left.

The location is excellent. I really liked how you can just walk through the restaurant and you’re straight in the middle of town, close to the canal walks, and the main shopping area. Loads of pubs and cafes close by. The room was cozy and the bed really comfy.

Very poor security. The windows were pretty decrepit and did not lock securely. I felt nervous to leave any valuables in the room and always took them out with me. The room was also very hot although a fan was provided it can get pretty stuffy in there!

A very good location in the centre of Newbury. The room was extremely comfortable, lovely bathroom and situated in a great old pub, with a good selection of food. The breakfast was also very nice. Extremely good value. The rooms being named after Babar characters was a nice touch - nostalgic memories of reading the books!

The breakfast is served at table, rather than a buffet-type option, which is usual. Nothing wrong with this, but it does slow things down and gives less choice

We loved our clean little room, separate from the main pub, fenced off with a gate either end, like a row of stables. Plenty of room in the bathroom for our toiletries ect. Easy access to our car in the car park. Great breakfast. Right in the centre of market, shops, restaurants and lovely river Trent. A lovely place to stay.

The room was lovely and perfectly situated right in the centre of Newbury in the Market Square. The member of staff who greeted me was polite and helpful, and suggested a railings in their car-park which was visible from the reception where I could lock my bike. The hotel was quiet and the rooms were very nicely kept, everything was in order. The breakfast was delicious

Honestly everything was perfect at this place, couldn't be better!

It is right in the middle of Newbury with easy walking access to everything. The bed is big and comfortable for two people.

It could benefit from updating the bathroom. Nevertheless it was perfectly funcional. It has two windows and each has double windows, one exterior and one interior. The exterior windows need some remedial attention. Nevertheless they worked perfectly and with the interior and exterior windows closed most of the of the street noise was blocked out.

great location and loads of food options near by. The room was spacious, the bed was huge and comfortable and the bathroom clean and a good size. Easy parking too.

The bar / restaurant was quite busy and noisy when we arrived and in order to get to your room, you need to take your bags through it which presented some challenges 😅 Nothing that wouldn't stop us staying here again though.

The location was brilliant, but obviously being in the town centre, you do hear the nose of bin lorries etc.

The parking was very limited and no signs. Was becoming a bit stressed out as it was on a one way system. I had to call the hotel to ask where it was. It might be worth using 3 words for location of carpark. When we arrived, we had no one to greet us, I had to walk through to the bar, going past people with my luggage etc.

Elephant at the Market was one of our favorite stays during our European vacation. We can't wait to stay again! It was a quaint inn/pub with great rooms that feel like you are taking a step back in time and delicious food! Being able to pop down to the pub for a beer and take it back up to the room was such a great experience. It was quiet, safe and close to Highclere castle, which was our reason for staying in Newbury. Ollie was a great host! He checked us in to our room and was our waiter and bartender in the pub! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the inn/pub!

Honestly nothing comes to mind! The rooms are on the smaller side, but that was to be expected, and it didn't inconvenience us at all (we were still able to fit a large suitcase and two backpacks with no problems). The bathroom was spacious so no complaints there! Such a wonderful place to stay. Couldn't recommend it more!

Deluxe rooms are large, well maintained and with large comfy beds. Location is perfect, in the centre of Newbury. Stayed here a few times and the staff are always pleasant and helpful.

The corridors outside the rooms need redecorating and are in poor state. Mind you they have been like this for a number of years.
